Would love if the Ducks drafted him.

I posted this a while ago, but I find it odd to see that a lot of fans on this site are coming up with rankings out of thin air. Watching youtube highlights and reading articles doesn't give you the whole picture

Best not take the advice of anyone who claims to watch quite literally every hockey league around the world. If they claim that, they haven't seen anything.
Those guys are easy to spot, and should be ignored.

Ya that is absurd.
I for one watch every league except the Cuban junior leagues. They haven't set up streaming yet.

Not a whole lot of buzz around the projected N1O. Hoping he gets an invite to Team Canada heading to Europe for the WHC.

I just hope people keep in mind that the WHC is a much higher caliber of competition than the U18 tournament we just saw, even in a year where most NHLers are declining participation.

If you're expecting Power to look as dominant as Clarke did in the U18s, you'll probably be let down.
Very curious to see how this plays out. Q Hughes' showing at the WHC in his draft year was a big eye opener for people, I don't see why Power can't have a nice tourney given how much more physically developed he is.

True, I certainly think Power can have a nice tournament. I just think it's important to keep in the talent difference in mind, especially for casual fans who might be catching these games directly on the wake of the U18.

If anyone says he's worse than someone that dominated the U18 whereas he's playing in the World Championships, they are idiots lol.

Here's footage from a game in February:

He makes plenty of mistakes, and gets caught out of position at times, but he’s also such an excellent skater and puck handler for a huge dude.

Really hard to project how good he becomes, sky high upside, but has a long way to go to get there. Could be a Norris level dman like Hedman, could be a meh 4/5 D like Myers. I think he ends up closer to Hedman, though likely not that good, maybe Dougie Hamilton-ish.

People shouldn't expect him to step right into the NHL as a top pairing dman, like say Ekblad did in his D+1. I think he makes the NHL immediately, but gets more sheltered minutes - not on draft-year Ekblad's level defensively, and makes more mistakes with the puck. But he's bigger, faster, and a better puck handler, his upside is arguably higher, but his overall 2-way game isn't as advanced as same-age Ekblad.

It was eye-opening to people who still think a d-man prospect has to be at least 6' and be willing to drive people through the boards or a forward has to be the same 6' and be gritty and contend for a Selke. Anyone who actually saw Hughes play wasn't surprised, or surprised that he immediately jumped into the NHL and was an impact player. Hughes had the best combo of skating and brains that I have ever seen in my 20 years of religiously following NCAA hockey. I might be biased but it still amazes me that he was doubted by so many here.

I liked his game.

super efficient.
Just understood not chasing and kept players to the outside closed off lanes

about 9 minutes of ice time I believe

Edit: Twitter has everything and this was a nice play I was talking with perfect execution defensively

Won't be on SportsCenter's top 10, but a pretty good clip to summarize what people like about Power defensively. Good speed to make the backcheck, good gap control to keep the forward outside, good defensive work to pinch out the forward behind the net. He's shown real defensive improvement this year at Michigan, which is encouraging.

What about Colton Parayko as a comparison? That's kind of who he reminds me of.

He was benched for large portions of this game but once he was actually given a bit of time he created some nice chances. Thought him and Bernard-Docker worked well together and passed the puck well in the OZ. I would definitely play him 5-6 more minutes next game.

Yeah I like that comp.

Power is WAY ahead of same-age Parayko, who was a real late bloomer.

As for Power vs. current Parayko, the big similarity is the excellent skating and transition play at such a huge size, as well as them both being a bit less physical than you’d ideally like. Parayko has a way more polished game obviously, makes far fewer mistakes and much better defensively, but that’s to be expected given Power is a teenager and Parayko is in his prime. Parayko has a harder/better shot too. But if Power can improve in those areas, I think he could become a Parayko level player (or maybe even better), with a similar style of play.

Night and day in terms of how Power has looked at Michigan vs the Championships.

Hes looking very good for Team Canada
