I swear, nobody ever mentions Zubov on these boards when it comes to Russian defensemen. Sergachev being compared to Zubov is extremely high praise indeed.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that people aren't capable of comparing Russian prospects to non-Russian players. Fascinating, really.

I see Sergachev as a sure fire prospect. At worst he'll be a number 3 and at best I see him as a good number 2. I like the Zubov comparison. I see him patrolling Montreal's blue line in maximum 3 years (I would bet sooner).

It's not just a russian thing. It's the same for each nation

I'm very surprise with how good his skating is. Guys that big that can skate like that are nothing but surefire NHLer. For the OHL fans, how's his hockey IQ?

I think he'll get a 9 game tryout with the Habs this year.

I don't want to hype or anything, but I have not seen a habs prospect this dominant since ever. There is no Defenceman currently in our team that is as talented nor better skater than Sergachev.

I don't believe the curse of rushing a player too quickly in the league. If he shows during the real training camp that he's the best dmen, then he gets to play a full season 100%.

Noah Hanifin did it, and Sergachev might become even better or is currently better than Hanifin. Give him some top 4 minutes and 2nd powerplay time. He'll probably get you 25 pts as a rookie def and playing around 17-19 minutes per night.

The attention will all be on Shea Weber and Radulov. Sergachev can play his game and develop in the NHL. The best league to learn form and develop. I actually don't care about the Memorial Cup nor the WJCs for Misha. Kid can contribute now, especially when we have lost our best dmen.

I think Sergachev only sees 9 games if Emelin gets dealt or one of the LHD get injured in the pre-season.

He definitely wouldn't be out of place getting those 9 games in this year and taking it from there.

His optimistic downside would be... Something like Jay Bouwmeester, right?

This kid should not be in the pros next year very few early birthdays are ready for the NHL after their draft year. Hanifin looked good doing it (Sergachev is not a better prospect than him) and so did Ekblad. But the development of guys who spend there 18 year old season in the NHL isn't great (Bogosian). Even when factoring in late birthdays the guys who are ready after their draft year are usually insanely high IQ players such as Doughty (not that Sergachev is dumb). Look at how the Blues handled Pietrangelo and that should probably be the blueprint to follow.

Doughty and Ekblad are practically the only defenders I've seen in the OHL who where clearly ready for the NHL in their draft seasons. Being asked to be the guy on the Spitfires and team Russia next year should be a good thing. Its a fairly similar set up to what Provorov had. Hanifin had the leg up playing a year in H-East, and Ekblad had 3 OHL seasons under his belt.

Agreed, they should not rush this guy.

Petry and Beaulieu are better skaters.

Yikes, already better than Hanifin? Pump the breaks a little.

As much as I would like to see the kid in the show this season, it's a perfect timing to let him go back to junior. He'll play 25-28 minutes a game with Windsor, he will be #1 defenseman with Team Russia at the World Junior Championship, and he'll play in the Memorial Cup. Looooot of hockey, lots of good experiences for him to get.

I wouldn't care to give him a 9-games trial though, on the top pairing with Shea Weber :D

It was a july scrimmage, calm down you're starting to sound like Sabres fans after we drafted Grigorenko

Not even Galchenyuk ?

Please, don't rush the kid and let him play at least one more season at OHL level.

Guys guys guys, let me have this. I'm still trying to move on from the PK trade.:shakehead

No, he's not better than Hanifin. But, if there's one dmen from this draft class that can make the jump, it's Sergachev no doubt.

If he's ready, he's ready. If not, he will continue his development in the OHL.

I hate the management of this organization. MT over any players..that's disgusting.

I don't think Galchenyuk was nowhere near Misha's physical tools when he got drafted. This kid is the Russian bear...built like a tank. That what separates him from Chucky during their camp if IIRC.

But we'll see at the real training camp. I think he can surprise and elevate his level of competitiveness a bit more.
