Juolevi is already 6'3" so it's safe to assume he can play at 215lbs or so when he's in his prime.

So we can assume when both are 25 that they will PHYSICALLY be very very similar.

That being a wash I take Juolevi's IQ AINEC

AINEC LOL Stop drinking the koolaid, Sergachev has a great IQ and will have played at least 160 NHL games before Juolevi will even sniff the league.

It will be interesting to watch Juolevi and Sergachev develop. I haven't made up my mind yet between them. I really like Sergachev's physical tools, and Juolevi's poise and confidence. It would be very interesting to watch them play against each other in the OHL again this year.

I don't follow the assumption that the same physical attributes mean they'll have the same physical abilities. Two players of the same height and weight can have vastly different puck handling, shooting, skating abilities.

You think Sergachev will have played 2 FULL NHL seasons before Juolevi plays? Sergachev will not be playing in the NHL next year past 9 games

Juolevi is 6'2 and is slender. He will probably play around 195 to 200. Sergachev is built like a tank, I doubt they ever play at the same size. That doesn't mean Juolevi won't be better, but he won't be the physical force Sergachev is.

Its funny, you are trying to clown the other guy, yet you are making yourself look like fool here. Nobody has a crystal ball, you sound like a huge homer.

Glad to hear the kid looks good in camp.

Also looking forward to see how all of the major D-men develop - many scouts had them all over the map (including Fabbro, Chychrun, and Bean).

I don't place a lot of weight on the prospect summer camps.
You can't really tell how these prospects will look until you see them at the main camp.
He's a top pick. He should be outshining the rest of the prospects.

Gonna go with 6'3 for OJ, talked to him at camp and he was almost as tall as myself. Gotta agree he will never be the physical force Sergachev is, just not his game and never will be.

Good pick by MTL.
If he have a great camp I see him starting in Montreal and if not, he can still return in Windsor and they have the Memorial cup this year

Sergachev's style (in this thread) has been compared to:
PK Subban
Rob Blake
Ritolainen
Malakhov
Ozolinsh

One poster wrote that Sergachev's style is more like J.Johnson, Seabrook, or Weber.

I'm thinking more Gonchar, no?

Cheers

Burns me to say it, but great pick from Les Habitants. Has the potential to be a do-it-all first pairing defenseman with a floor as a top 4. See ya on the ice kid!

He's a better skater than Gonchar and a little bigger and more physical. His tools have always reminded me of Malakhov, but he has a better head on his shoulders. More competitive and engaged.

I have no idea who he ends up playing like but god I hope its like Ozolinsh, I used to love watching that guy play for the Avs, so much fun.

Gonchar, PK Subban, B.Burns, Malakhov, Ozolinsh...I love all those comparisons (and all fun to watch).

Gonchar...6'1 - 6'2...I'm hoping Sergachev will end up a grittier/tougher (and more two-way) Gonchar.

Malakhov was 6'4 - 6'5 (if my memory is correct), and from the little I remember...he was so smooth. He would glide out there and had so much natural talent, but his mind was elsewhere (ballet?! no joke! apparently he was really good at ballet...pre-NHL and post-NHL). If he had more intensity/consistency/heart...he could have been of of the best.

It was a while ago, but from the little I remember...Ozolinsh was a joy to watch when he was a San Jose Shark (I think that's when they had Arturs Irbe...bot that was a long time ago!, but I remember Ozolinsh was amazing in his prime...almost forgot about him...thanks to all of you for the reminder).

Zubov was my favorite (Russian NHL dman) though for everything...solid two-way play...intense playoff play (playoff winner),etc. A few have compared Sergachev to Zubov's style...not sure about that, but we'll wait and see. I'm just hoping Sergachev can work on his defensive intensity...and then everything should be more than fine.

Zubov and Ozolinsh (and Gonchar in his prime)...hopefully Sergachev is the next one (the next solid Russian NHL dman...not just regular season, but for solid playoff performances).

Cheers

What's wrong with people? Every skinny prospect is going to fill out because well the wieght room is right there. Jay Bouwmester never became Shea Weber.

Fans and teams are so stupid if they think that the skinny kid has more potential because he will inevitably put on the weight and be stronger. Chychrun gets no credit for being in great shape. Newsflash some of the guys in the NHL that work out and are bigger had that advantage when they were young. There is a LONG list of guys who never turned into Mr. Universe just because they were drafted.

Giving the skinny kid more credit because he has a worse work ethic is so bass akwards.

Did someone say skinny?

I had a real good friend actually playing hockey that people assumed he would fill out and be a dominant player... didn't happen and he didn't make it far at all.. complete bean poll still with a gut now

Lol, I'm not even convinced Juolevi's IQ is better than Sergachev.

When we talk "IQ" it can be too subjective. I think Juolevi plays safer and knows his limitations right now, but is that what we want? I want a guy who is growing and expanding his game.

To me, Sergachev mentally is a lot like Subban at this age. Both have phenomenal skill sets (Subban was more raw at 18), were physical beasts with booming shots, etc. Both are exuberant and really want to win and impress, but both have tendencies to try a bit too much at times and lose their place in their own zone as well.

It's all part of the growing process. But as we saw with Subban, I'll take that ceiling any day over a guy who may be a tad more mature in his game now but whose ceiling is much lower.

Juolevi thinks the game quicker and is a superior passer. These are the things that a defenseman is actually doing the majority of the time in a game. He does play a safe game but that just means he has more to give numbers-wise, as when he does pinch down or walk around a defender it always seems to work out.

Love Sergachev's shot though, that's an underrated quality. If you can shoot the puck hard and accurately that's often more valuable than flashy skills in a defenseman.

The term 'hockey IQ' (or just IQ) needs to go away. I notice it has become in vogue recently on these boards even though it is just a fancy synonym for 'hockey sense'.
