Sure, nobody knows with complete certainty how any prospect will fare, even more so a 62OA pick. But let's do some comps with the NHL superstar defensemen you mentioned, all of whom played NCAA hockey.

Hutson had the same assist total, 33, with one less goal, 15, as Makar did during his dominant Hobey Baker sophomore season, while playing in 2 fewer games. Hutson accomplished that as a freshman. Fox matched Hutson's 48 points (9G, 39A) as a junior. Hughes didn't come close, scoring 33 points (5G, 28A) in his best season, as a sophomore.

Concern about Hutson's size, 5'10", 162 lb, at age 19 is overblown. Makar turns 25 in 3 weeks, 5'11", 187 lb. Fox is 25, 5'11", 182 lb. Hughes is 24 next week, 5'10", 180 lb.

The guy had a truly historic NCAA freshman season, playing in a top conference. He might never even approach the level of Makar, Fox, and Hughes, but he at least deserves to be in the discussion until he comes up short in the NHL. I really think the Habs made an absolute steal of a pick.
Makar is 6 ft 205 and hits like a truck

Tree trunks for legs now too

Also just broke the record for dman ever to 250 points.

Very few players ever reach the level as those top NHL players, at the actual NHL level. To say because of one collegiate season that he is now worthy of being discussed amongst them until it’s proven that he won’t become what they have become at the NHL level, is foolish. It is indeed not rocket science. He is nowhere near their level until he’s actually proven that he can do what they’re doing in the actual NHL. You guys are using backwards logic.
Yeah and very few players do what Hutson does. Why can't you wrap your head around that? You've got some weird spin on the argument that people are actually making. Nobody is talking about the NHL. They are talking about comparable prospects at the same age. Why do you feel the need to take the conversation elsewhere, as if it helps your point?

He excels at using his elite agility to open up shooting and passing lanes that are normally covered. Agility is the most important skill in the offensive zone.

He will put up points at any level with his lateral movement. He will get the puck through to the net or find the open player. This lateral movement changes the angle of the shots and passes, as well, making it more difficult for the opposing goalie.

Makar might be the best skater in the world. Hutson’s got a ton of upside and you guys should be excited about him but to even put him in the same stratosphere as Makar is lunacy
back when Makar was at UMass I didn't see him breaking ankles like we see nearly every game from Hutson. Stop embarassing yourself.

First of all, I’ve admitted to him having been very good in college. I’ve never taken that away. Maybe you should read the hundreds of posts before my post to see everything that was being said and responded to.

In one post, you had a Habs fan saying, “he’s literally Niedermayer. “. So, because of one good college season, he’s now a hall of fame player.

Another post said that until he comes up short in the NHL then he should be deserving of being discussed alongside the best dmen in the NHL. When I posted in response to that, he corrected himself and agreed and said he should be compared with their collegiate level seasons.

So, no, it wasn’t just people comparing their collegiate seasons.

So you’re saying that Lane Hutson is a better skater than the best skater in the world based on the fact that he “breaks ankles” more?

And I’m the one embarrassing myself?

Offensively Hutson is a far more polished product than Makar was at the NCAA level. That is an undeniable fact.
