You are mistaken.

All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices are exempt from the draft. They do not count toward a team's protected list.
You are mistaken as well. It is "...first- and second-year PRO players...". I think the kids with 3 years of Pro that started their first pro year at 18 yrs old are also exempt but I am not entirely sure of that.

Juuso is on fire right now. Leads (in points) all defenders in Finnish Liiga. Also leads his team Ilves that is doing great at the moment.

(Although eye test says that he has some hazardous moments in every game ;))

Edit (a bit off topic): Ilves youngsters are all looking great. Arttu Ruotsalainen (BUF signed (undrafted)) , Roby Järventie (OTT 2nd round 2020), Matias Maccelli (ARI 4th round 2019), Eemeli Suomi and Antti Saarela (CHI 4th round 2020), together with Juuso, make the top6 of Ilves in scoring!

His prime is a slightly better offensive Ekholm imho.

Don't know if he'll ever be as good defensively, as Ekholm in his 25-28 years was arguably one of the best shutdown guys on the planet. But he's going to be a long term NHL with some serious upside.

On a different note, good to see him dominating a league he should be on the top side of.

Slightly better offensively, slightly worse defensively in his prime than Ekholm imho.

Just hoping he can stay healthy at this point. Seems like he's more than ready for the NHL.

Barring a move though he'll be on the 3rd pairing. Guess it will give him a good chance to get his NHL legs under him.

He won’t be on the third pairing for very long.

Agree. Calgary's defense is a mess. Not to mention, I believe there's a chance he could be on the power play. Giordano may have the inside edge with Gustafsson gone, but I suspect Valimaki will assume the role before too long.
