I bumped the wrong thread!
Didn't know that this one was some kind of prospect dick measuring contest.

Juuso is awesome. I'm so happy the Flames have him. Smarts for days, poise and elite instincts.

That hit that lead to the game tying goal, what a beauty. Regardless of others, one of the top 5 under 20 and under drafted prospects in the world right now.

Heard his last game was pretty good, couldn’t find the time to catch it. Watching him in October it felt like the Flames were rushing him a bit.

Judging Valimaki and Heiskanen by how both have looked to start their NHL careers, I’ve seen nothing that puts Heiskanen in another tier.

I won’t dispute that Heiskanen is trending to be a franchise dman some day, but Valimaki also looks to be trending as a top pairing dman. Given the Flames drafted him and invested their time in him, I’d see no reason to move him for a like prospect. Posters can criticize my opinion if they like, but it’s my opinion.

Heiskanen has a pretty big advantage in skating. I think that will ultimately allow him to control the game and possession more.

But I like them both a lot. Valimaki sees the ice very well.

Meh, I think Miro is a better prospect. I think skating wise they are pretty close, Miro has a higher ceiling. Both teams are extremely happy with their players and neither are going anywhere.

We have no need for a dick measuring contest here. @Volica

I hate to see these kinds of injuries. Thought he looked excellent in the playoffs last year, and was poised for a breakout year. Hopefully the recovery goes well and he goes on to have a nice career.

Brutal blow for this kid with a torn ACL coming off a year where he played only 46 games. Would be surprising if he's back before March 2020.

Luckily we have the ability to be patient in his return. Better for him to rehab properly than rush back and do irreversible damage.

As Flames fans though, we were definitely expecting better durability from a Nokia product.

It's a nasty thing but this is a highly motivated kid who trains extremely hard. He'll be back.

He said last season that it was an interesting thing to learn how to deal with injuries at a pro level. He said he didn't really like having to learn about it, but he said he understood it was an important thing to learn.

ACLs are really an awful recovery. Hope the best for Jusso. He's a fantastic natural athlete so hopefully this doesn't slow him down too much.

Unfortunate injury for sure. Only 46 games played last season including playoffs, and looks to be out until March (or later). Got to hope his development doesn’t take too much of a hit.

ACLs are tough. Valimaki was never the quickest skater and this injury won’t make him any faster.

Hopefully this ACL injury was last for Välimäki.
Knee injuries like torn ACL are worst injuries which any professional athlete can gain during his career.
Recurrent knee injuries are ruined the careers of many NHL players.

SO hopefully this won't happen never again to Välimäki
Because if this-kind injury
recurrence then Välimäki's whole career begins to be in jeopardy.,

You can always trust ChicagoBullsFan to sweep in with the most negative take possible on the situation

He is in fact just being realistic. All that he posted is in fact the brutal truth. I hate the situation as I’m a big fan of Välimäki, and I have been expecting him to become a really good NHL defenceman. I’m still hoping for that (and kind of even believing in it) to happen. But I can’t deny that this injury is a massive setback, and it really could quite possibly have a bad impact on him for the rest of his career. I really hope it doesn't go that way, but to pretend that there isn’t even a quite big chance for that to happen, is in my opinion being in denial.

I am a wreck right now. I’ve seen too many players careers ruined by knee injuries. Praying he is back 100% by next season, we need you Juuso!

Have to think this impacts his ceiling pretty badly. So many injuries this far in his career. Reminds me of Bennett missing the most important development period of his career and never becoming anything special.

as a blues fan watching fabbris career ruined by knee injuries i feel terrible for valimaki

hoping he can come back and stay healthy and reach his true potential. sky is still the limit for him.

Really shitty thing to have happen, but it's definitely not a death sentence.

From a Wings fan perspective only, Kronwall had one at 24 and still had a great career, even though the knee did nag him over the last few years. Franzen also had one and still played well after, until the concussions got the best of him. Hoping Svechnikov can keep the trend going.

Vali can still be a good player. Will probably hurt his longevity, but he's still got lots of time.

Sounds like he is healthy and having a good camp but Flames is unlikely to play him since he would need protection in the expansion draft if he even plays one game.

players on a entry level contract are automatically protected if I am not mistaken, because Juolevi also made the trip to Edmonton and we know he cannot be exposed to expansion draft.

You are mistaken.

All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices are exempt from the draft. They do not count toward a team's protected list.
