I thought him, Jones, and Niku were the best Dmen at the Young Stars Classic and he's the youngest of the 3. Hate to say but he looks to be a good one.

Not much talk about him, but I think Flames got a good one here. Constantly impressing me with his skating and poise with the puck, his playing looks effortless.

Overall I've been impressed with him. A bit more up and down than Heiskanen, but I think all 3 of him, Heiskanen and Jokiharju have been great.

I think he's looking like the top defenseman from the 2017 draft. I have him 3rd right now in a re-draft.

How this guy doesn't get talked about, I have no idea. He's big, good defensively, good skater, skilled, puts up points, and he's the captain. Best player in the Finland side, and one of the best players at the tournament.

I'm sure you'll get flamed (no pun intended) for saying that. But this guy is the real deal. I had him 3rd on my final draft list. It blew my mind that his consensus ranking was in the teens.

This draft seems wide open after Pettersen and Hischier. I wouldn’t count Patrick out yet though, he just needs to get healthy.

Valimaki is a stud though. He just has all the tools plus he’s very poised. I think he will be a top 4 d for a long time and is definitely the Flames top prospect.

Really love his game too think the Flames got a beauty here. 2017 draft looking like dynamite these days its pretty hard to make a list of the top 20 without changing my mind constantly cause i want so many guys in the top ten

Yeah the top 3 Finish D have been solid. Looking great for Finland going forward. The D for the mens team will be solid for years

Valimaki is good but top 3 is way off imo.

Still a lot of work to do defensively but he is very talented.

Happy with this pick, and was happy about it at the time.
Can't go wrong with a big, good skating, high IQ and good offensive instinct Dman.

He's a stud in the WHL, and he's been great for Finland. Excited to see him Stockton sooner rather than later, and in the NHL in a couple seasons.

That's a Flames thing. Nothing new
The only guy who got talked about a lot was Gaudreau, because he was never going to do it against men, etc.

Flames have low-key been stockpiling top defensive prospects like it was the cure for ugly. That's all while having a great top 6 in the NHL who outside of 1 are all on the right side of 30 and signed to good contracts. It's what's given Tre the ability to go out and move a first for someone like Hamonic.

Many of those goals have been scored because our forwards have made mistakes and turned the puck over. Overall our defence has been good.

Also our goalie has let in some soft goals.
And when you look at the truly bad goals against, I think you will find many of them were scored against our 3rd pairing. That pairing seems to be a significant drop down from the first two defensively.

What, what? Finland's D have been bleeding goals against vs the big teams.
D has been more than fine. Forwards not getting back is what hurt Finland early. Also offense was mostly being generated by the D for the first games

The best part about this thread, is it looks like every other Calgary related thread on this forum.
- uninformed simply throwing out a hot take.
- informed clarifying hot take.

I think I jinxed him... this was followed by an underwhelming showing vs US and absymal vs the Czechs.
