Don't mean to crash Flames party here but Juolevi was much better defensively than Valimaki.
Throughout the tournament. Valimaki made way too many weird jumps to offense leaving his player all alone( which resulted in many odd-man rushes). In one game. And a development year ahead.

You might want to check your facts, they were both born in 1998
D has been more than fine.
Juolevi was best of this bunch Valimaki second and Heiskanen was worst. I still think that Heiskanen is another level player. All players have off games. Overall he was excellent in this tournament. More impressive than Juolevi and very close to Heiskanen IMO.

No Valimaki was probably our second best player of the tournament. But Juolevis stickwork and also playmaking ability was great. I think Juolevi was just better.Juolevi was pretty unnoticeable until last nights game.
I watched basically every minute of Finland. Valimaki had a very good tounament. Like the guy had more points then any other Finnish D, was out for like 2 goals against and didn’t play on the PP. he actually had more 5 on 5 points than any Fin forward. But yeah terrible tournament![]()
The dmen weren't disappointing, although I expected more from Heiskanen offensively. The biggest problem were the middle 6 forwards: Koivula, Kuokkanen, Heponiemi, Innala, Tuulola and Ikonen all non-factors.What what?
Only half kidding. Finland was one big disappointment in this tournament from top to bottom, the D included.
He's great, shame most people like to form opinions on one loss...
People put way way way too much stock into the world juniors. Its nice to see the prospects all come together but you'd be nuts to not consider their home league as much more important than these handful of games
There is also a good correlation around players playing good in their junior leagues and making the NHL. Not killing it at the WJC is not something to worry about.I mean, there's normally some correlation with the best players of the tournament and their NHL impact; normally the best guys in the tournament end up decent NHL'ers. It's certainly not always true (see a list of about 50 names over the past 6-7 years that were good in this tournament and have done nothing else).
I thought Valimaki was good.
