Would he still be projected a 1st round pick if drafted this year?

In this draft? For sure. He likely wouldn't fall too far at all. In a redraft of his year? Still almost certainly top 25, with a reasonable chance at top 20. I'd have to look through the list to be sure. That said, while some players have leap-frogged him with good post-draft showings, I'm sure several teams still like Zboril's potential just as much as they did on draft day. He has all the ability to be a solid, net-clearing #3.

With Carlo in the NHL and McAvoy making his debut today, how far off is Zboril?

It's probably safe to say he'll spend next year in the AHL. If he acclimates himself well, maybe he's in the NHL in '18-'19 but D are hard to predict so it wouldn't surprise me if he needed 2 (or more) years of seasoning in the minors.

Still pretty far off, I think. He needs one good year in the AHL, and if it takes him two or three years to get that "good" year, fine.

Maybe things change if he has a great camp like Carlo, but I think he's still pretty far off. Still happy with his potential and I think he'll turn out alright. It's just easy for him to be overshadowed by Carlo and McAvoy for a good reason.

Some people were saying Zboril was like a Keith Yandle... I don't really see that in him though. Not too many players that are physical and good at moving the puck. A very interesting combination which is what likely made him appealing to the Bruins.

I know most people laugh at the pick now but I've been watching Saint John a little bit in the last few weeks and he impressed in all viewings. He doesn't have a tool like Chabot's skating that could make him an elite defender, but he's pretty well rounded, make mostly sound and safe decisions with the puck, skates well, has decent size, can contribute at both ends. I think he's going to be a top 4 defenseman in the NHL.

Never heard the Yandle comparison before.. does play like him at all

That's the first comparison to Yandle I've heard. I don't see it.

At his best he plays on the edge without going over it, can move the puck with his skating or strong first pass and chip in on the O side of things.

At his worst he is taking dumb, dirty, obvious penalties, trying too hard to make plays out of nothing when the risk far outweighs the reward.

He has displayed a lot more maturity in the playoffs, which is nice to see. Hope for good things for the kid.

Seems to the consenus of observers who watch a lot of Zboril's games. Has lapses of judgement during games. Still a raw talent at his age.

Yup.

All the tools, but the decision-making has to improve.

Thanks for the link.

Personally, I don't see the puck skills or the offensive acumen out of Zboril that we did with Yandle at around the same age. I think Zboril is naturally more physical. He's also one of the smoothest skaters I've seen in our system in a long time ( possibly ever ).

I'd obviously love to see him turn out like Yandle or something similar; that would be fantasic. I think in the end, Zboril forges a nice career as a top 4 guy if and when he puts it all together.

I feel like he's a guaranteed NHL player. I don't think his potential is very high though. He'll be a solid defensive d-man. A #3 or #4 I think. Really not worried about him at all making the NHL someday or not.

If Zboril becomes a good 2nd pairing defenseman I will be ecstatic.

I think Zboril will be good, but I think Lauzon has the highest upside of any D in the Bruins organization besides McAvoy.

How did Zboril look like this season? His point production wasn't bad, but also wasn't overwhelming. Will he make NHL next season?

Have been able to see Zboril a lot this season and he won't be in the NHL next season barring a unforeseen jump in development this summer.

He'll be in the NHL some day though IMO. Great skater and can play mean too (in a good way). Problem is he cam also play mean (in a bad way) that leads to blatant penalties at the worst time, and as someone else said, can make some boneheaded plays.

Will need some time to work out those wrinkles IMO.

Could see him being a solid high 20s/ low 30s type of #4 all around D.

That is what has been the most alarming. Defenitely needs to be cleaned up.

What's with his 1 point season in the AHL so far?

Zboril has been given good marks by both his coach and the beat writers that follow the team. He's still a prospect that needs time and some of the red flags in his game still need to be ironed out. Still, he's a 20 year old prospect that's better now than where he was 3 months ago. He'll most likely need to spend the entire year + getting his game to NHL shape, but there's a lot to like about him.

For the positives: he's been a negative player for only one game this year ( leads all AHL rookie dmen in plus/minus) and has points in three of his last 4 games ( not sure where you are getting 1 point ).
