The stat line from the 1st ~20 games of a rookie dman's professional debut means very little. Torey Krug had 6 points in his first 24 games in the AHL and was 7th in points for dmen in the NHL 4 years later.

I didn't ask for excuses.
I know that defensemen often develop more slowly.
I asked what's going on with him. Is he playing OK? Does he suck?

Zboril has been given good marks by both his coach and the beat writers that follow the team. He's still a prospect that needs time and some of the red flags in his game still need to be ironed out. Still, he's a 20 year old prospect that's better now than where he was 3 months ago. He'll most likely need to spend the entire year + getting his game to NHL shape, but there's a lot to like about him.

For the positives: he's been a negative player for only one game this year ( leads all AHL rookie dmen in plus/minus) and has points in three of his last 4 games ( not sure where you are getting 1 point ).

Thanks.

Havent heard much about him lately, how is he doing?

Eyes in the stands that post on our boards regularly have given him high marks for his progression this year after red flags marred his start. One of them posts scouting videos on twitter highlighting strong plays from some of the top prospects and Zboril has been among them. Apparently, the Bruins have asked him to work more on his defensive game and it's much improved from the start, as well as his offense. He hasn't put up high point totals, but he's been better.

The emergence of Matt Grzylek and Zdeno Chara being a cyborg allows the Bruins to be patient with Zboril. Overall, i get the impression scouts and coaches are happy with Zboril's season.

He is taking a long time to reach the nhl. Is he still considered to be a top 4 dmen in the future?

He's played a couple of games in the NHL already, but it appears that the Bruins are taking their time with Zboril. Boston already has Chara, Krug, Grzelcyk and Moore on the left side, so there's no room for him or for any of the other LHD prospects (Lauzon and Vaak, to be specific). According to those who watch him regularly in Providence, he's been playing well. He will probably never be a top-pairing D but should be a second- or third-pairing D. Whether that will be in Boston is to be determined, given that Lauzon and Vaak have progressed better than Zboril to date.

Hard to say, even with the amazing amount of injuries to there defense corp, Zboril came in after McAvoy, Chara, Carlo, Krug, Grzelyck, Miller, Moore, Kampfer, Vaakanainen, Lauzon and Clifton, making him as of now in his draft +4 season the 12th defensemen on the depth chart.

Um awful post. Vaakaneinen had surpassed Lauzon and Zboril, but it was 50/50 on if Lauzon or Zboril was next man up. Lauzon got the call and Zboril then got concussed.

Awful post, I didn't say Zboril was far from Lauzon and Clifton, just behind. Seems it was more 51/49 in favor of Lauzon, unless you think they throw a nickel in the air to see who would get the call?
Anyway, as of now he is #12 on the team, doesn't mean he can't climb some spots the next few years.

Is he a player who could benefit from a trade to another team? He's now played 3 AHL seasons, and has only played 2 NHL games. He might not have high upside anymore, but he's probably an NHL player. Could he benefit from some changes on the left-side of Boston's blue line this offseason with potentially Krug and Chara no longer being on the team after this season or is he too far out of favor within the organization?

Got passed by several other guys. I think he "can play" in the league, but most likely as a depth guy. Change of scenery wouldn't hurt.

A lot of people that watch Providence ( beat writer Mark Divver, our very own Saxon Eric and BruinsNetwork ) echo what coach Leach said about Zboril in that he started to play the best hockey of his career right around the turn of the year and was starting to put it all together. BruinsNetwork has some small sample scouting footage on his twitter if you're interested.

As you mentioned, he'll have a tough time cracking the lineup with Chara, Krug, Grz, Moore, Lauzon all being left handed dmen on the current roster and having to fight it out with another 1st round pick in Vaak for first callup rights. Like the Rangers are currently benefiting from trading for what Boston considered an expendable asset in Lindgren, Zboril would definitely benefit from a change of scenery and I think once we see how this offseason shakes out ( Krug contract, possibility of Grz or Moore being selected by Seattle ) that may or may not happen.

While I still have nightmares about that draft, Zboril was supposed to be more of the sure thing over Chabot. It was supposed to be the best pick of the 3. They wanted Hanifin bad in that draft, tried to trade everything to jump into the top 9 for him. Tough to see how Zboril developed. Scouting report at Providence has been all the tools are there but doesn’t have the hockey sense to put it together unfortunately. He may do better elsewhere but he’ll struggle as a bottom pair guy because he doesn’t kill penalties well but doesn’t have enough offensive skill to run a PP.

Still smh about passing up Connor & Barzal, those were indefensible picks at the time and even with Debrusk developing into a solid NHLer, he doesn’t touch their level of skill.
