His new Number is 9.
Weird number for a D. Historically that was the number reserved for the best forward on the team (Bobby Hull, Richard, Howe, Bathgate, ). Granted, that tradition faded away as teams retired numbers and generally chose what they wanted.

His idol is Hernan Crespo? =)

Can he put up points? Is he worth picking up in fantasy?

He scored a ton in juniors obviously, but he will be behind Gostisbehere on the PP, unless he proves himself a better option. He has a fantastic shot though, and his passing is top notch.

I imagine he'd be a let down points wise if you spent too much on him or were expecting a Ghost-like breakout this year.

Whether you pick him up or not depends entirely on your league setup. If it's a keeper or dynasty, remember that Sanheim is on the way this year or next, who is a point machine as well. It's all freaking awesome for the Flyers, maybe not so much for fantasy.

I wouldn't expect major points from Prov until after Streit is gone and even then he might get overtaken by Sanheim in terms of production. Depends on his PP allocation, really... Even though he looks to be a bona-fide #1 D in terms of potential, our #1 D on the PP is undoubtedly Gostisbehere.

Should be a consistent 30-40 point guy within 2-3 seasons, I'd think.

First game, first career point on a primary helper on a sweet boards bank pass-shot from the point. Just an excellent job of finding a seam with the puck to set up a teammate down low to make a play.

He looked as jittery as I've ever seen the first period. Still OK, but making some uncharacteristic fumbles. Partly nerves and partly the vaunted Kings forecheck breathing down his neck accentuating those nerves. But he really found his game the last 2 periods and looked his usual calm, cool, and collected brainiac self against a fantastic team -- was matching the Kings's physicality too. Beautifully subtle with smart reads, tight gaps, separating the puck from the man, nice passes both short and long, some so clever even his teammates weren't expecting them. Even had an end to end rush through the Kings team at one point before chipping it to the corner for a line change. Was neck and neck with Ghost for 2nd most minutes played among the d men, 1 second off PP lead, and led Flyers d men in PK time. Basically was everything you'd hope for after he settled in.

Pretty amazed by how he was out-muscling some pretty big units on the Kings front end. Did it to Nolan & Clifford last night, went shoulder to shoulder and came out on top.

Also awesome in his post-game interview where he basically said 'I played ok, but I made some mistakes I was not happy with and will be better next game.'
20+ minutes, an assist, +1, only Flyers Dman with over 2 minutes TOI on both PP & PK and he was not happy!

Ya no chance Flyers would give Provorov straight up for Trouba. That deal would have Hextall getting fired written all over it

He looked even better in his 2nd game

His stretch passing is lase accurate and he closing on puck-carriers in the blink of an eye

We should have a sexy defense at the Olympics. Provorov, Zaitsev, Zadorov (I hope, he'll be good), Voynov does look good in the KHL. And then a whole bunch of defenders for 5-6-7D roles.

Yea he looks a little small out there, but guys deflect off of him. He has a lot of strength. He's always a bit ahead of the next play too. He understands the game well. You can tell that he is nervous and a little out of place, but he looks good.

Sounds like he had a terrible night tonight. Happens to everyone, just surprised someone made a thread about it on the mains. To Philly fans was it as bad as people are claiming?

Yes and no. He was -5, but one was the empty net goal. It was almost unfair to put him out there to probably get another minus, but I think it was his coach Hakstol trying to show some faith in him.

First goal is Streit not playing defense and out fishing (a recurring theme this season so far paired with the "veteran" Provorov covering for the 39 year old...he was the worse of the pair tonight) leading to 2 on 1 and then not even covering the post when he was right there to do so. Second goal Provorov lost an edge. I really don't know what he can do about that. Terrible timing. Third goal he was on his man, but Matt Read completely lets Anisimov go to the net undeterred. Fourth was a smart read leading a rush, putting on the breaks, hitting the trailing Couturier who then bobbles it, which leads to an odd man going the other way. Then the empty net.

He didn't look overwhelmed on the goals or make many poor reads or anything, just awful luck in part. And when he made a mistake there it was in the back of the net, often his teammates not helping out either. Ghost made even worse turnovers which didn't go in, but it goes that way sometimes. He was excellent all preseason and in his first 2 games. It was a very weird game is how I'd put it. He was bad, but not -5 bad. He still made plenty of smart plays. He's cool as a cucumber but his coaches and teammates need to cheer him up. And people on the main boards probably made a thread just to engage in schadenfreude.
