Philly's defence is shaping up better than its have in a while. Provorov, Gostisbehere, Sanheim. All bluechippers there.
Best defensive prospect in hockey, and the only person close is Werenski, no one in this draft compares. Case could be made for Liljegren, but that requires a lot more projection. I said this before the memorial cup, and it stands today. I think he's more valuable than the 3OA in this draft, and I'd trade 4th or 5th for him without thinking twice. Its interesting though, been a long time since we've had an elite Russian D (Markov, but he entered the league a long time ago). Granted, his path to the NHL has been fairly unique.
Provy- CHL D man of the year
Ghost- Calder finalist
Sanheim- best PPG by a WHL Dman 20 years
Myers- QMJHL All Star
Friedman- WCHA AllStar...led league in D scoring.
That's a pretty good year for those guys to all have.
I don't see Sanheim as on the same tier as either of those two. He's a clear level below in my opinion, I can see how some might dispute that though.Odd that you mention Werenski as the only one close as i see Werenski being even with Sanheim and many others

Edit: And I don't seem to be alone in this opinion. Button, Pronman and THN Future's watch all had Werenski and Provorov higher, and in most cases by a sizeable margin.
You seem to be of the majority opinion.... ive been reading up and Werenski is universally ranked higher.... to me Sanheim and Werenski are both offensive Dmen with average D. Provorov is the complete package. Maybe im selling Werenski short

I don't know to much about the existing Werenski vs Provorov debate, but I remember when it was rumored the Leafs were considering Provorov last year is Provorov's skating and puckhandling mechanics really bugged me. The reports have been glowing on both accounts, so I'm not really disputing that, but to my eyes he's just got these stiff, mechanical strides and this choppy puck handling that I just don't enjoy stylistically. Werenski looks like Hanifin out there. Just great mechanics, smooth, just screams elite.

Provorov on paper is the best skater of the 3... he had the quickest shuttle time and lap time of all defenseman... for sure hes a better skater than Hanifin, by stats hes better than Werenski but i havent seen enough of him to make an honest assessment.
What happened to your boy Chychrun?Best defensive prospect in hockey, and the only person close is Werenski, no one in this draft compares. I don't know where you are getting that from. To my knowledge the 3 have never tested on the same ice together. Saying Provorov is "for sure" a better skater than Hanifin doesn't seem right to me either. Hanifin is a great skater. That is the one thing besides height I could definitively say Hanifin has on Provorov. I think Werenski is a better skater as well but that gap is a little closer imo.Provorov on paper is the best skater of the 3... he had the quickest shuttle time and lap time of all defenseman... for sure hes a better skater than Hanifin, by stats hes better than Werenski but i havent seen enough of him to make an honest assessment.
He certainly has a unique style due to the abnormally long stick he uses for a player of his height-High elbow, two hands on the stick at all times when he is carrying the puck. But it works for him. I do think he is a little stiff (or at least more stiff than some other guys mentioned in this thread) but that can probably be attributed to his body type.He may very well be, but I just have a hard time seeing it on the ice. He just doesn't look good motoring to where he's trying to get to, and I don't like his puckhandling mechanics. Just an aesthetic comment more than anything else.
I still think Chychrun is the best D in this draft and would consider him at 4 if that is where the Leafs were drafting but Werenski and Provorov were both ahead at the time of there drafts of where Chychrun is now. I think 2015 was a much better draft in regards to depth and particularly in the way of D. But while Chychrun took steps forward in the 2nd half, he didn't take the jumps necessary for me to keep him above Provorov, and he's been behind Hanifin since at least November. What happened to your boy Chychrun?![]()
Does anyone object to the overwhelming opinion from the media that Provorov has basically earned a spot on the Flyers already? Anyone that has seen his preseason play?
Nope. Provorov going back to Juniors would be a huge shock at this point based on his defensive play alone.
