This is a shocker to me.

I said he was underrated to start the thread, but that’s when he was on no one’s radar to start the season.

I feel there was room to move back here, but Simishev should be an NHL defender on tools alone.
I don't think he's 1st round material...even ignoring the Russian factor. If you want a defender, there were surely 4-5 better players available. If you want a Russian, you have Michkov still available. If you want Simashev and nobody else, trade backwards or take him with your 2nd selection. No other team would have taken Simashev over Michkov or Leonard and most likely also not over other defenders.

I love the player. But, over Michkov? over Leonard? Benson? Moore? This is a bad pick at 6 imo. He’ll play. He’ll be a good defenseman in the NHL. But, you pick him in the 10-15 range.
I wonder if this means they might deal their #12 pick and wanted to make sure they got the guy they wanted?

No offense but if I have to guess it probably means they were out drinking or smoking something. Or they didn't do their job.

I feel bad for Arizona fans.
Projected to go very late in the first round and Arizona also has the 12th as well. No reason whatsoever to take him here.

I hope he works out but damn, no wonder this team can't ever get any better.
What do you mean by very late? He was projected in the to 10 by some. But that's a shocking pick at 6 for sure

I actually even like his shot, it has got both quickness and power, I have no logical explanation why he scored only one in the regular season, both in the playoffs and the season before it was much better, probably some sort of a bad puck luck.

Still when I see him with the puck in dynamics I frequently think that it takes too much effort for him to control the puck, although it might be that the longer stick contributes to that impression. Also my observations are that his pass precision kind of deteriorates when the passing distance increases.

With coaching and his intelligence he'll pick up when to drop off, get the space he needs at the top of the blueline and get even more power for his shot, His passing at the moment he tries too much can also be pared down. In 2-3 years Arizona/Houston will have a blue chip player.
