Smart decision. Nurse oozes potential and tools but he needs to refine his game and simplify it. Still carries the puck up the ice and tries to do too much. Reinhart was very good at camp and made it possible to send Nurse down.

Worked wonders for Dumba and should do the same for Nurse

Oilers finally developing prospects the correct way

He had a decent camp, but needed to be way better if he has going to lift himself above all the D with 1 way contacts. It was unlikely he would make it to begin with.

I wouldn't call him up till he learns to stop rushing the puck. Need to be firm with him about that, he's been told so many times, he Can't seem to help himself. Once he listens he's gonna be great.

Still needs seasoning. Smart move to let him develop a bit more in the AHL. I'm gonna guess Reinhart will be on the starting roster.

Damn, I'm planning on watching a lot of Oilers games again this year and was hoping to get a good look at him.

Good on the organization for doing the right thing if they feel he's not ready yet, though.

Thanks for those Ference and Nikitin deals MacT...

meh ... couldve been a lot worse.. Nikitin will be out after this season and Ference shortly afterwards.

Nurse needs time in AHL so lets be thankful to Nikitin that Oilers didnt go after a Franson locking him up for 5 yrs

He has an incredibly high potential, but needs to improve the little things.

One thing I like about him is that he no longer misplays the puck at the blue line on the PP. That got pretty frustrating to watch.

Disappointing to say the least.

I love his attitude, skating and toughness. But there's obviously an element to his game that's missing. It will like be what stops him from being one of the better defencemen in the league.

The Oilers blueline is horse bleep and he couldn't crack it. That does say something about the prospect no matter how you put it.

Well at least I'll get to see the you can never go wrong with the AHL path. I'd love to be wrong.

He is AHL eligible. He needs 25 min a night. Not going to happen in Edmonton. He can be recalled at any time waiver free.

I hope they dont do the same thing to Draisaitl but they could. Oilers have a few prospects that they can work with that would require waivers.

He also still has the full three year ELC. No sense rushing him right now.

He is better than the likes of Ference, Nikitin, etc. in a lot of ways already, the issue is they have one-way big money contracts, and the token "open spot for a younger d-man" has Griffin Reinhart with the edge.

And rightfully so, he's a year older and has already played a full season in the AHL and was a 4th overall pick himself, so it's not like he should be treated like chopped liver.

Nurse getting to play against men in the AHL for a season is not the worst thing in the world.

I hope this doesn't mean that Edmonton is abandoning their 'throw the rookies to the wolves' development style.

Seriously though, I don't see how being assigned to the AHL is knock on Nurse in any way. Going straight from Juniors to the NHL is damn near impossible for a defense-man.

Great decision by Edmonton send him down. Right now he looks like a Cowen/Tinordi/McIlrath type defender at best. Maybe he can evolve into a McQuad like d-man if everything goes right for him.

This is what Edmonton should have done with Yaks and Hopkins. Give them valuable time in AHL.

There's no shame in this. This is good for Nurse.

Not even close Nurse skates a lot better and better puck movement than all those guys

Compare RNH and Mackinnon's P/Gs in their first 2 seasons then come tell me RNH needed AHL seasoning (despite not even being eligible, oh boy awful logic)

Been recalled yesterday night, practicing today on a pair with Klefbom and on the 2nd powerplay with McDavid & Yakupov.

Will he established himself and force the Oilers organization to keep him in the NHL? I hope! What do you guys think!?
