A lot of Oilers fans are saying he is the best defenseman in Edmonton since he been recalled... I'm a huge Nurse fan but I don't have the chance to watch him play a lot unfortunately so I'd like to hear some feedbacks from Oilers fans and also... do you think he's gonna stick in the NHL for the rest of the season!?

The only reason he would get sent back is the ridiculous log jam on the back end.

Ference is already pretty much a press box staple. He would be in Bakersfield if not for his NMC. Fayne has also been playing sparsely of late and it would not surprise me at all if the Oilers try to move him. Davidson had a bit of a shaky start but has played quite well of late. I doubt the Oilers want to risk waivers at this time. So once Schultz comes back you have 9 defensemen to manage and only two are waiver exempt, Nurse and Reinhart. Both are playing well enough to stay.

Usually even or positive CF% while playing significant even strength minutes with Sekera. They're 2 out of 3 Oilers defensemen who seem capable of doing that--the other being Fayne, who inexplicably sits in the press box while guys like Reinhart and Gryba get their ***** kicked.

I expect him to be sent down when Schultz is healthy just because the coaches have already made plenty of awful decisions with their blue line over the first 15 games.

He should stay up for the remainder of the season, based on his play on the ice. However, there are too many dmen on the roster so I'm almost positive he gets sent back down once Schultz returns.

I think he's easily been our best defenceman since being called up. He's the fastest and makes the best breakout pass AND creates the most offence. Guy is raw but has all the tools to become a #1 at some point. He's so damn fast at 6'4". I don't know how.

His shot is good but he seems to always hesitate. See his first NHL goal. Huge clapshow from just inside the blueline after skating it out of his own end. Usually you saw him skating the puck deep and then not knowing what to do with it every time he'd rush it.

He is the only exciting part about our blueline. He reminds me a lot of Pronger during his days in Edmonton. Huge, mean, fast, offensive. Complete package. Give him 2 years and I think once he's worked on his defensive positioning, he will be considered one of the top D in the league.

Klefbom, Sekera, Fayne have all been terrible and they were supposed to be our 3 best D coming into the year. We have three rookies in our lineup when Fayne is scratched. Davidson, Nurse, and Reinhart have been IMO our 3 best D.

he's been playing close to 20 minutes a night, and has largely been their best/2nd best Dman. I bet Reinhart would go down first.

I really, really like his game. However if he slows down I'd send him down. Not making playoffs so let him develop.

Better than advertised thus far tho. Really smart back there to go with good tools

Better than advertised by the uninformed arm chair GM's perhaps. Anyone who actually watched him and knows anything about hockey knew this kid is going to be a pro stud.

I've liked the Pronger comparison for quite some time now. He's just a different type of top defenseman. Just totally complete and you just dont see these type of defenseman come along too often.

Pronger lite lite. Doesnt have the offense upside Pronger had. But hes got the attitude. Watching him go at it with Getzlaf last night as a rookie was BA. Got an incredible attitude but a **** you attitude on the ice, hell challenge anybody

Well if i can remember correctly, Chris Pronger took a little while to develop especially his offensive game. I think Nurse's offensive game is gonna develop better than some think.

Not a fight, but I like that hes not backing down from any player even though hes a rookie

I think Buff is a better comparison. Buff without the rocket.

Disagree with your assessment of these three. Sekera has been worse than we had hoped, but he's still a top4 dman. Klefbom has flashes of greatness but is inconsistent. I'd say he's far from terrible. He was dominant against the Ducks.

Davidson has a nice shot but that's about it. He's not a NHL calibre player at this point in his career.

I too think Klefbom has not been terrible. Inconsistent, yes, but not terrible. At times I think he has looked very good.

As much as I'm super excited about Nurse, I'm also quite happy with Klefbom's emergence as a legit NHL defenseman.

With Nurse, Klefbom, and Sekera, we at least have three NHL-caliber dmen. We still need three more to field a respectable roster, but that's three more than we've had in the past.

Why is it that the comparison I'm seeing for Nurse is Buff -_-. I don't see that in him. He will be a great player but I don't see him being a premier offensive dman in the league but more well rounded.

Are we becoming like the NBA now where there's an unwritten rule that you can only compare black players to black players and white players to white players?

No kidding, I dont see the comparison at all. Maybe for being an in your face type player

I still see Bouwmeester on steriods comparions. Similar defensive acumen and offensive upside, but Nurse is alot more physical and doesnt have the level of hockey IQ J-Bo has

Hes way more aggressive than Jbo so I don't see that comparison.

I still think Nurse is very much like Seabrook.

Rob Blake seems like a good comparison to me. Big, nasty, great skater, offensive potential.

Rob Blake had a much better slap shot and was one of the premier offensive dmen of his time, but I still like the comparison. I don't think Nurse will have Blake's upside, but I also think Nurse has more offensive potential than what a lot of people think.

Im still up in the air about his offensive potential. In junior he rushed the puck up alot and just skated wide to the net and backhanded the puck on the net and got decent points from that. But he didnt really have too many different moves. Then he developed a strong slap shot. Now in the NHL he is showing some offensive prowness with the puck and controlling the puck well in the O-zone, something I didnt see much of in junior. Hes passing the puck up more quickly rather than skating it too.

He could get 40 points just from passing it to McDavid and co, but hes becoming a more well rounded threat in his own right

So with Schultz returning to practice today, he will likely return game action soon. I hope they don't send Nurse back down to the AHL, but we will find out soon.
