LOL. Of course not, silly. Darnell Nurse isn't a good enough defenseman to shut down the opposing team's stars when he's in the press box due to injury. Hence the reason for not being nominated.

He shut down Guelph, and will continue to shine as the stage gets bigger. My advice to you is to watch him play the remainder of the playoffs because you obviously haven't seen him play very much based on your opinions of him.

I was at the game last night... Nurse was good, but definitely not the best player on his team. He (rightfully) wasn't one of the 3 stars and while I definitely think he is ready to go pro (AHL would be best), I think Sault Ste Marie's playing style is the bigger reason Guelph was shut-down. Guelph is also a shell of the team they were last year after losing Finn, Rychel, Komaschuk, Ebert, etc. so it's not the biggest challenge to shut-down what is essentially Fabbri + Dickinson.

Anyways, he looked fairly good yesterday and looks ready to go pro, but I think he could use a year in the AHL. He wasn't as dominate in the game I saw (yes, just one game live) as I expected. Definitely has enough talent that he shouldn't be in juniors anymore though. Came away more impressed with SSM's goalie (whoever he is, he played great and had an awesome glove-hand), Ritchie, McCann, and Tolchinsky.

Next series will be the biggest challenge for him as he attempts to shut-down (or at least partly contain) McDavid.

Yeah, that's not ripping the Oilers. It's pointing out a fact. He's behind the curve compared to players picked before and immediately after him. Fact.

Oilers place guy in NHL...He's rushed

Oilers let guy develop in Junior...He's behind the curve.

Rushing prospects like Yak/Galchenyuk hasn't worked so might as well take the slow progress route with nurse, it seemd to have helped klefbom, AHL wasn't an option unless you need me to explain that to you.

Do you not understand defenders take longer to develop? Is Risto playing for the Sabres at a young age the best thing for him and his development or is he there because they don't have anyone else?

*shakes head*

Yeah and wasn't nominated for the award. Nor shutting guys down when he was on the shelf. Unless being injured for an extended period of time, and watching your team excel without you is a good thing?
It sounds like Nurse banged your girlfriend because everything you're saying is wrong or skewed.

Honestly, how many times have you seen Nurse play? It's hilarious that you're downplaying all his accomplishments, especially at the world juniors when it's best on best, then emphasizing his few shortcomings. That's fine, you can do want you want, but to say he won't even be a top 4 defensemen is one of the dumbest things i've heard on here. He just won player of the game in the gold medal game of the best 20 and under tournament in the world, and was arguably Canada's best defensemen that tournament. He also just turned 20, and most defensemen don't make it to the NHL until their early to mid 20s, so to write someone off even if they weren't at Nurse's level would be dumb.

There's a reason why you hold the unpopular opinion on Nurse, but i'll let you figure that one out.

The Oilers had to send the guy back to Junior because he's behind the curve?

I don't believe he is btw.

2 years of Junior for a d-man drafted 6th overall isn't all unheard of. In a really strong draft year. Still plausible.

Having to do 2 years of Junior and still need AHL time though.

Then I'd definitely think Nurse is behind the curve compared to his draft peers.

Doesn't mean he shouldn't go to the AHL if he's not ready for NHL action.
Doesn't mean he can't turn up his development and pass his peers as a later bloomer.

It just means he's not where his peers are in his draft year and recent draft years.

Seems like you have to resort to personal attacks or insults constantly (see the DeAngelo thread where you stuck your foot in your mouth). I posted an opinion, you can either agree or disagree in a respectful manner. I feel confident in my evaluation of Darnell Nurse based on(as I've said multiple times) my large amount of viewings of Nurse. It looks like you haven't viewed him much other than at the WJHC.

You can disagree in a respectful manner, acting like a child does nothing to support your point of view.

Nurse couldve made the team for 2014-2015 but its well known they felt he would be better servered to marinade rather than play on another likely bottom 5 team. Im not to worried, call it a late bloomer or a player that earned a spot but was handled carefully, he'll be a stud.

Not really.

Of the 4 dmen picked after him, only Risto has played in the NHL. I expect Morin to start in the AHL next year then work his way into the NHL. And I am quite fine with his development.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but i'm a big Darnell Nurse fan. I'm excited for his teams series against McD and Strome. I was listening to his interview today and it seems likely that he's supposed to shut down McDavid.. hopefully lol. So how do you guys think he'll fair?

Apparently he's a bust because he's a 20 year old who isn't NHL ready.

Makes sense. :sarcasm:

Nurse is overrated, Id say a good series for mcdavid would be ~ 2Ppg

Would love to hear why you think he is overrated.

He was named the best D for Canada at the WJCs and the best defensive D in his conference.

Everyone that watches him closely apparently disagrees with you.

Because he's an Oiler prospect.

I think either way Nurse is going to have a tough time with Mcdavid. Also to be honest, as an Oiler fan I'm not sure what I want to happen haha...

If I was an Oiler fan I'd be cheering for Nurse to shut-down McDavid... You already know McDavid is going to be one of the top players in the NHL. Nurse is a different story and it would do well to show that he's capable of being a 1st pairing 2-way NHL defenseman if he could shut-down McDavid in the playoffs.

Obviously they're both young players and 1 series isn't likely to change their development paths (as long as McDavid doesn't get smoked by a Nurse/Ritchie hit or any other injuries occur to either players), but I think you'd want to see Nurse rise to the occasion more than McDavid take over another series.

Exactly my opinion on what I want to happen as long as Nurse doesn't concuss hurt McDavid I want him to shut him down completely.

Nurse will do fine against McDavid in the Playoffs. Due to his team.

Erie really doesn't stand much of a chance against SSM. They're way above every one else in that conference. Oshawa and Brandon are really the only teams that can compete with SSM.

Zadorov played the whole year in the nhl. Though his circumstances were a little unique.

Is Nurse gonna be in the NHL next year? That draft was insane, look at the list of dmen drafted in 1st round.

Jones
Nurse
Ristolainen
Morin
Morrissey
Pulock
Zadorov
Theodore

Insane, those all look like bets to be top 4 guys.

Nurse was actually looking really good prior to being sent down. It wasn't a case of being sent down because he had obvious deficiencies. He was a lot better than Ference in his short stint.

I think he's got some real good upside. Maybe not a huge point producer but could definitely be a top level shutdown D with moderate production and solid puck moving. I don't really care about individual production as much as the overall package and his effect on the ice. Petry didn't produce as much as Schultz for example, but he helped drive offense a lot more than Schultz did by making solid defensive plays that reduced time spent in our own zone.

Jared Cowen was once considered a top 4 lock and Nurse is Jared Cowen 2.0. They are eerily similar junior players. Physically dominant, mean and can both skate.. But unfortunately both guys can't move the puck and make egregious decisions with the puck.
