And 23-year-old, 6'3" Daniil Misyul is in Utica while the Devils toss players like Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec into the NHL before they are ready, why? Doesn't seem to make much sense.

if you've read the report of the primary Utica observer on the NJ board you'd get the impression that Misyul has some promise but is not yet an NHL caliber defender. He'd play a similar role to Bahl and NJ has too many young defenders in the lineup for now but they really have to develop Luke and Nemec.Ne
Nemec and Luke Hughes have tremendous potential. At this stage in their career however neither are NHL defenseman (let alone the best two defensemen) on the team. Luke Hughes is -20 with the bulk of his points coming on the power play.
In the long-term both players have far greater potential than Misyul. Today they are not better defensemen.
With Luke Hughes on the ice at 5v5, NJD generates 56% of shots, and 54.2% of expected goals.Ne

But yeah, NJD totally would have been better off trotting out:
Misyul-Marino
Bahl-Miller
Hatakka-Desimone
For a significant stretch of the season.

man, I feel angry just seeing the name Brendan Smith. Its in the title "LD Daniil Misyul"
Misyul was held in Utica because LD Brendan Smith filled in for the lone injury at LD.
didn't really notice him much other then that one reverse pass to Siegenthaller that bounced of the back of the net that allowed the Lightning to take the puck.He did ok under the circumstances.
if that's all you noticed in that bad of a game he did ok in my view. He made a number of routine plays. His advanced stats are a bit of a mixed bag, but again, given the game they were fine. It's his first game in an utter disaster of team play. I'm sure he will improve from here although if he's lucky he gets a few more games before Luke and Pesce return.didn't really notice him much other then that one reverse pass to Siegenthaller that bounced of the back of the net that allowed the Lightning to take the puck.
Given his age, I'd probably keep him up as the extra defender when Luke and Pesce return and send Nemec down. At 23, MIsyul can benefit from practicing with the big club and maybe he only plays sporadically but that's better than Nemec only playing sporadically.I thought he played very well.
Agreed. For me, the only reason to keep Casey and Nemec up is to get regular shifts. If that's not going to happen, let them cook.Given his age, I'd probably keep him up as the extra defender when Luke and Pesce return and send Nemec down. Something tells me that Casey would be better on the wing than at defense once he settled in. His defensive acumen would serve him well as a winger and his skill would as well. He'd also have a bit more flexibility on avoiding physical confrontations than on defense since he wouldn't have to patrol the slot or the net front.Agreed. That said, I would obviously keep Casey up and roll 7D because he's really freakin good. But I'm not in charge.
Nah, he's already elite at creating time and space from the blue line and is a very capable defender, especially if paired with a more stable defender. Casey had some rookie moments, but Nemec didn't give him a lot of help. Certainly Casey's versatile enough to play forward, but I think that's a waste of his excellent gap control.Something tells me that Casey would be better on the wing than at defense once he settled in. I think Casey has wonderful talent and on a one on one basis made a number of nice defensive plays in space. He never really got leaned on to protect the net front (at least that stood out to me). Either way, he's one of those players that can probably play any position (maybe not goalie) if given the chance. He's smart and talented and that goes a long way. I presume next season Kovacevic earns a nice contract somewhere else and Casey and Nemec are vying for the third pair on the right side. In his 20 mins away Nemec, Casey had a 75% xG share.
Hopefully we move on from Hamilton this summer when his NMC expiresI think Casey has wonderful talent and on a one on one basis made a number of nice defensive plays in space. I think he's already better than Dillon, if I'm being honest. I never liked the Dillon signing. To bring this back to Misyul, I'd like to see Misyul given a chance to make Dillon expendable.
