You can go to spiderID.com, upload the picture and get some help. And if you have an Android phone, Google Lens is often a good tool for identification of a lot of things.

At first glance it looks like a Nursery Web Spider. Wikipedia had a fun fact about nursery web spiders:
The female spider sometimes attempts to eat the male after mating. The male, to reduce the risk of this, often presents the female with a gift such as a fly when approaching in the hope that this will satisfy her hunger. Sometimes, this gift is a fake present intended to fool the female.[4] Males may wrap the fake gift in silk, to deceive the female to mate. Females can detect the fake gift and terminate mating, negating the male's deception in not giving a real gift.

We had an A&W drive-in in the tiny town of Holbrook, AZ where I was born. I can remember going there before we move from there in 1978. I even have a baby root beer mug we got while we still lived there. Apparently there's still one in town, though it looks like it has moved. According to their website, there are still A&W's in 37 states. I would have been less surprised to hear they had gone out of (the restaurant) business decades ago.

We have an A&W/Long John Silvers here. At least we did, not sure if it's still open. I'm rarely in that part of town anymore. I do remember the last time I went, I ordered a root beer.... and they were out. Out of root beer.

Ew ya I've heard about centipedes but never had any issue or ever seen one inside or in the basement.

As for spiders one of my friends used to joke that underneath the basement/foundation there's the mother spider half the size of the house.

Got word this morning that a former coworker passed away this morning. He was about my age, early 50s. He actually had a major stroke back in 2016 and although he survived, never really recovered to any significant degree. To my knowledge he was never able to communicate or take care of himself. His wife cared for him at home the vast majority of the time. I can't fathom what the family has been through. And honestly the thought of living in that condition for years scares the living daylights out of me. Sad situation all around.

OMG hell yes I remember these. You turned the dial in the direction you wanted the antenna to turn & it made a noise that sounded like gears grinding. Or at least my grandmother's did.

Shit I'm old :wally
We had one as well.

Also old.

I wish we had a few different response emojis because none of the 4 available can possibly convey feelings about these situations. I am so sorry, my heart goes out to what your coworker and his family have gone through. That scares me too, I wouldn't want to live that way and the stress on everyone is horrendous. My MIL was on her back for about 10 years after suffering two strokes. Just take me, don't leave me that way.

Had the exact same box on top of the old woodgrain Zenith Console. The antenna was in a small room off the attic, because my dad refused to put it on the roof.
We had a Zenith! It got so bad we used to have to flip the power rocker switch back and forth rapidly multiple times for it to turn on properly, otherwise the horizontal hold went wonky. lol

We also used rabbit ears. Problem was, the best location was with them stretched across the door to the basement, where us kids liked to play. So if we ran up the stairs and opened the door without knocking, off flew the antenna and let's just say dad was not happy if he was trying to watch something.

Oh, and never forget the snow on the screen when mom was using the electric mixer in the kitchen.

Kids these days have noooooooo idea lol :wally:

Asa matter of fact first color tv in our home, my gramps downstairs, was 1967.
I remember sitting with him and watching Lost in Space for the first time in color.
He shamed my dad into buying one, a big box Zenith, with maybe a 19” screen the following year.

It is currently 5:20pm and it is 105. It was suppose to go to 118 today. It may have, I've been in class all day in a/c :D

Update: apparently it made it to 111. Cest la vie!

My family got our first color TV in 1969 to see Joe Namath's blue eyes in an exhibition football game the year after their Super Bowl win. Game was supposed to be broadcast in color but at the last minute tech problems caused it to be only in B/W. True story....
