Off to the beach. I have 2 bottles of spf 50 with me. I am vigilant about sunblock. I wear it spf 50 on my face daily.

I’ve got an ok base from my time out in OK so at least I’m past the get pink then tan phase.

I have been inside so much. I am so pale.

Before I leave for my schooner trip I need to get some color. Maybe I will go to Plum Island or Long Sands in Maine for a day. I just need to bring a chair that I can get out of.

Some go home the day of the surgery. I have 2 flights of stairs, so I stayed one night. I lost a bit more than normal blood so when they came in to get me up that night I almost passed out. I went home then next day.

They no longer send you to a rehab (nursing home) as the chance of infection is much higher if they do.

You should get your house in order before you go in. Also get someone to stay a couple of days. I had in house PT 3 times a week for the first two weeks and now have PT out of the house.

They told me I could probably drive 5-6 weeks after....2 weeks and 2 days for me.

Also try and get the anterior (front) surgery.

Order a "hip kit" as it has a few handy things (a reacher to get stuff out of your reach, a leg lift and some stuff to help you get dressed). I got it for 29 dollars.

I had stuff in the kitchen on the sink shelf so I didn't have to bend over.

I had my cat sitter come on for the first two weeks (every other day) as I could not change the cat boxes.

I used a walker (they will order for you) for a week and then a cane. Now I don't need either.

Ask me anything!

Well my apartment entry is a ramp instead of steps so that is a plus. My sister said she will get time off to stay with me. She'll take care of the cats too.

Where did you get your hip kit??? That sounds very useful.

I got it from Amazon.

Also helpful is a riser for the toilet seat. You don't need anything fancy. Amazon has it also.

They will make sure you can do stairs before you leave the hospital.

YouTube has videos on post hip replacement. Like how to get in and out of a car, bed and shower. If a car sits low bring a pillow. Be sure to only watch the newer videos and the ones that speak to the type of surgery (anterior or posterior) you are getting.

We lost another tourist/visitor hiking yesterday to the heat out in Phoenix. Friends, if you are going to visit the desert, you need to do research. She was a beautiful young lady from Oregon. :( It really effects us all who live here because even though you are a stranger, we care about you.

It's common here to see local vendors with carts on the side on the road selling things--they are starting to ask hikers for approximate hiking times so they can watch for their return (community at work). People are rescued continually off mountains here.
Please be safe :(

Finally got to see the doctor. Verdict: arthritis in both hips. One has no cartilage left and the other one only has like 10%.
It gets better: I have to lose 20 pounds before he will do it.
He recommended intermittent fasting. I’m going to look into it.
Hi Bets. Praying for less pain for you.

Pretty awful smoke over Crane Beach. Water is cold. Definitely a day where you’ll get crispy w/out sunblock

Worse allergies than Denis Lemieux these past couple of days.

Trade me right f***ing now.
Flonase nasal spray and Allegra 24 hour.

Close any windows. Don't go outside. Keep your air conditioning on. If you don't have one. Get a HEPA air purifier.

Tree pollen is extremely high outside. I have nasty allergies too and this is my remedy lol

Our church did an outreach today that included backpacks/toiletries for kids, haircuts, oil changes, eye exams, and glasses, all free of charge. I helped with the eye clinic, which is organized by a retired optometrist and his wife. They bring about 5,000 pairs of glasses, along with some basic optometric equipment.

It was amazing, there were several people whose vision was really terrible, and couldn't afford glasses so they went without, in one case, ten years. And we found glasses that worked for them.

Anyway, it was a very rewarding experience. If you ever have the chance to volunteer at something like that, I recommend it.
