I was convinced of that coming into the year, but hesitate now knowing we'll play TB.

Not saying it's right, but how the team looks will be a factor in a loss where pretty much any other opponent and an outright loss would lead to changes IMO

As did I. If they lose respectfully I won't complain but if they are beaten in the alley or embarrassed, most of Leaf nation will blow a gasket. If there is enough noise, I bet management gives them their pound of flesh.

Yup...and they finished 14-12 last season before the playoffs.

The one thing few here will admit to is the regular season is not the playoffs. They are very different. Many are conflating this issue acting like there is little difference between the two and blowing the regular season way out of proportion.

Hey, I was hoping they were left for dead when they were struggling. But, I know the playoffs are different. That is why I don't believe all that much in Florida or Colorado.
Yep. Same was said about Detroit and Washington before they broke through. Same with Que/Col. TB for that matter whose road to winning was really weird. CF, out of playoffs,, CF,, 1st round exit,Cup. Or along those lines.

Point is all those teams went through horrible losses before they won. The Red Wings lost to the Leafs and Sharks in the first round who were garbage before they won the cup

I dislike the Leafs team Dubas has assembled and the fans who worship everything he does. Sue me

I cheer for the Leaf's logo, whether they suck or succeed, I guess we just have different motivations. Leafs for life, baby, flawed as they may be.

Nope.

St Louis spends more money on replacing Pietrangelo with two lesser d

You: They used the cap savings on forwards!!!

What cap savings?

So STL gets better without the True #1 D, and the Knights get worse with the True #1 D.

But you won't let that change your mind.

and i'm pretty sure you're the one who just called ME arrogant, too.

Management probably cares less about what you think than you imagine.

The Leafs had had so little success that I will celebrate the individual awards as well. It is the first time in my lifetime the Leafs arguably have the best player.

Had to endure Edm, Pitt twice and a slew of other teams.

It is a blessing to have stars shine all season.
Nothing wrong with it, and nothing wrong with me not wanting to partake.

It is a blessing to see our team have their best ever regular season, but it matters nothing to me, if that's followed by another 1st round exit. I'm not worried about what you find your happiness in, but I can see some are deeply concerned about where I find mine. Appreciate the concern about my happiness. I wish my wife was half as concerned as you are. :)

hey maybe if you guys could admit that this team is far, far, far better this year then you guys said they'd be, we might all start approaching some kind of understanding.
Il admit they look better this year but it’s hard to get excited about that until they win a playoff series.

I'm starting to think this is Kyle's burner. :)

Yes, that old tired stuff gets brought up over and over to justify all the losing. You don't cite that stuff when you're actually winning. That is for losing teams to cling to when they're losing.

As do I, doesn't mean I can't point out the flaws and wish for better
But you said you actively dislike them. I mean...those are our boys. They are flawed. Yes, I wish we had a Jeannot and Middleton and Vasilevski. We don't. My ideal team also looks different from Dubas, but why are we acting so negatively before we even have a chance to play in the playoffs? Why the pre-emptive strikes? So you can go "I told you so?"

I don't see constantly shitting on them as supporting the team.

IIRC both teams made coaching changes to get to the promised land, Off the top of my head Caps Boudreau, Hunter, Oates and Trotts. Wings Demers, Murray, Scotty (Cup), Smith, Lewis and Babs (Cup).

Haha..

Point is none of us will remember the losing if they can win. No one cares anymore that Detroit lost to the Leafs in 92/93 after they won.

Everyone forgot anout the losses to Sid and the Penguins after Ovie's epic bender.

You are talking like it's already happened and the Leafs are home licking their wounds from the beating

Don’t believe in this group if you so wish. That is your perogative and their post season history doesn’t exactly afford them the benefit of the doubt. But don’t anyone try to tell me we are rolling into the playoffs this year with basically the same team.

Half of our regular D men since the trade deadline weren’t even on this team last year.

From last playoffs we’ve subtracted: Dermott and Galchenyuk (the pair who single handedly lost us games 5 and 6 in OT), the ghosts of nick foligno and joe Thornton, bogosian and a broken and extremely ineffective version of Zach Hyman.

We’ve added:
Bunting, Lyubushkin, Giordano, Kampf, Blackwell,

Liljegren has made it full time and shown great progress.

Tavares is healthy.

Mikheyev and Engvall have taken significant steps in their games this year.

It’s not just the same ol same ol as people are trying to claim. We’ve added a lot of different elements and our depth scoring has never been better.

The biggest question surrounding this team is Campbell and how Matthews and Marner respond to last years failure. So far they both doing and saying everything right.

Fire everybody, hire members from HF.
Seems to be lots of qualified GM and coaches
Maybe pick up a few players too.

Except for some big mistakes on contracts I think Dubas has done a good job.

I think coach prepares team pretty good and trys different things in game as well shaking up the lines.

He cant be on the ice telling them not to make stupid mistakes or hurry a pass.

So alot of it is on the players.
Some of them are known to not show up in playoffs win or lose these players should be removed..

If your a scorer and you cant score for what ever reason than hit someone..dont be totally useless

Agreed! IF they finally do what we all believe they are capable of, then yes, all this will be nothing but a bridge to a beautiful destination on the other side. If they don't, it's an unfinished bridge leading to despair below.

Where I sit, I'm more in the prove me wrong state of mind. I believed in this team too much only to be let down. I've had two points penciled in vs. bottom feeders many times this season, only to see the Leafs get spanked. Shoot, I expected a huge response for Wayne Train's 1000th and they laid an egg just like they do almost every single time you're expecting something different.

I thought the Leafs finally had gotten over the hump after their HUGE win in Boston in Game 5 a few years back. Nope. Lost in 7, again.

The way I look at it, I have a few scars from putting my hand on the stove, but you guys have never taken it off even when someone tells you maybe you should! Masochists! :)

There was tons of fan noise last summer and management never wavered.

It was toxic on this board but as Fox said, Shanny and Dubas doubled and tripled down on the core this year. No idea what was said behind closed doors though. Either way I doubt they survive another embarrassing loss but you never know.

I also love the Bills!!

I celebrate every single time Auston scores. Don't care if he's the 1st, 2nd or 3rd star of the game.

Don't care about the awards. Don't care about the Vezina winner. Don't care about the Hart. Don't care about the Selke, Calder, etc. I did post that I think Bunting should win the Calder, but I don't care if he does or doesn't.

I know it is hard for you to understand someone caring only about team goals. We live in a very me-first world where the focus is on individuals. The media is to blame for that. I don't see life like that very often and certainly don't in the team game of hockey. Doesn't mean I don't understand what sells to a society that is about individuals. League should promote its stars to garner interest and grow the game, but I really don't care for that. Society does...you do. I am counter-culture on that issue.
You keep missing the point to talk about awards. Forget the awards entirely as they seem to be confusing you.

If you rag on a player when they play poorly, and ignore when they play well that's the issue. It's one thing to cheer a player and jeer a player depending on their performance. It's entirely a different thing to only comment on when they struggle.
