Thanks for the info.

We shall see how smart the Senators Scouts and Dorion are in the future compared to the rating services you have provided.

It seems they reached far down the list of available players.

JBD was pretty much universally ranked in the 2nd last year so.. They wanted a RD and didn't want to risk him going.. have to figure they are closer to it than we are so... Lassi Thomson it is. I think Heinola and Bjornfot are better D but they are lefties.

That worries me, as well. Especially since Kelowna will be in the Memorial Cup next year. Seems strange that anyone who is a competitive athlete would walk away form that opportunity.
Might have something to do with that he wanted to go home to play for his hometown team which he played for before he left to the WHL. Memorial Cup isn't as big thing in Finland than in Canada.

He was a riser and I'm damn sure be wasn't dropping to 32.

Based on who was left on the board I have no issue with it. Would have been as pissed as the rest of you had we picked him over Newhook/Krebs, but there was no one close to that level left on the board, ino.

Agreed. People have been saying he would have been there at 32, but I don't think that's true. Defencemen have been pretty popular so far. I don't think Thomson would lasted long after us, especially given the fact that he's a RD.

Would he have been my first choice? No, but after Newhook and Krebs went, there wasn't much of a gap between the next group of players for me.

Heinola was consistently ranked higher but RD was more of a need. I think it was a factor. I don't think he was straight up BPA but that's just my opinion. How 'bout the dumbass Boberg at 8 :laugh:

It was the Oilers, doesn't that just about confirm he was a bad pick? :laugh:

We'll see how it all shakes out. I understand why a chunk of the fanbase is upset, but I trust the scouts.

Tkachuk = upset fans
Karlsson = upset fans
Lazar = fanbase is thrilled

Maybe the fans (largely) don't know what the hell they're talking about :laugh:

If we had selected this guy with one of our 2nds I would have been disappointed.

Can't count the amount of times I've seen this guy pick up the puck and try to rush it through the entire team, fail and turn the puck over. Not a smart hockey player.

Maybe I'm wrong and his skill, speed and shot overcome his lack of sense, but I can't help but be disappointed with this pick.

Seems scouts and scouting services differed on this pick. Hopefully the scouts are right. Bracing myself for the lassie pictures

yah for sure the scouting team is there.. they know more about what's going on and about what they are trying to do.. I would have gone Tomasino or Lavoie but ... I'm just a fan the Sens typically draft well and Thomson is a good player.

Was this guy on loan to Kelowna from Ilves? If he was, the Sens could sign him and he could play in Belleville. If they think he could handle it, that is.

Holding judgment here.

I can see why many teams aren't giving up assets to trade up when everyone's draft boards look so different.

I'm sure Dorian would have explored trading down if something was available (particularly after last year saying he would have traded down again but scouts wanted JBD). If they really liked Thomson, so be it. If nobody in the 20-26 range was willing to cough up a second or third, no big deal.

LA and NYI are clearly two of the teams below us who would have no interest in trading up, seeing as how they went "off the board" anyway.

I definitely was hoping for one of Lavoie, Brink or Kaliev in that order when they stepped to the podium but I've been saying for awhile that I want them to dip more into the Finnish talent pool so I won't yet complain till we see more of him. Seems like a great talent. If we got him at 33, I'd be elated.

Just a shame that the three guys who went right before were all guys we all would have liked.

The Jake Gardiner comparison is pretty adept. Im unsure atm of his IQ but Sens usually value that so we shall see

Sens May get somebody at 31 that people wanted at 19. Five picks left with Lavoie and Kaliyev still there to name a few

We all complained with the Kalrsson pick years ago, I trust the organization when it comes to drafting. I trust them on nothing else, only drafting
I am in the same boat. I trust Pierre when it comes to drafting. If he is excited about this pick, then so am I.

The western scouts have done such a great job. Should probably trust them. Sens dont like big skilled players like Lavoie. He lacks character or so says the front office that is clearly full of high character people. So honest and genuine the sens are.

Maybe because he thinks playing with and against men will be better for his development.

There's also something to be said about learning the North American game. Faster speeds, having to make decisions quicker,and getting through a more physical style of game. That's quite important, for defensemen especially.
