I think he is going back to Finland to get the military service out off the way.

First time ever Sens have drafted a Finn In the first round, btw.

I have realized not to question OTTAWA draft picks

They are usually pretty decent

Idk,

2018, I was good with Tkachuk, but was leaning towards one of Zadina Hughs or Dobson. With hindsight, I think Tkachuk was the right pick, but Hughes or Dobson would still be ok. With our 2nd first I wanted Miller, instead we traded back, I would have grabbed Beggren. JBD looks solid, but I'd prefer Miller ignoring system needs.
2017, Wanted Tolvanen or Kostin. Still would take either over Bowers.
2016, wanted Chychrun, liked McAvoy too. Jury is still out, but Brown has a lot of catching up to do
2015, Like Svechnikov so they killed me with Chabot, I was clearly wrong. Wanted Koneckny or Boeser instead of White, I think I was right there.
2014, I wanted Kamenev with our 2nd, Englund sucks.
2013, honestly I don't recall who I wanted, but I am pretty sure it wasn't Lazar even though I warmed up to him.
2012, wanted Ceci... we both failed.

2008: wanted Karlsson, got Karlsson
2009: wanted Paajarvi, got Cowen
2011: wanted Couturier, got Zibanejad
2012: wanted Ceci, got Ceci
2013: wanted Mantha, got Lazar
2015: wanted Svechnikov, got Chabot; wanted Boeser, got White
2016: wanted Brown, got Brown
2017: wanted Robertson, got Bowers
2018: wanted Dobson, got Tkachuk

Was right some years, wrong in others. I'm not infallible, but neither is the scouting staff.

I think, given their track record, it's fine to trust them in the latter rounds, but they've been hit or miss in the 1st, and it's completely reasonable to question some of their picks.

The western scouts have done such a great job. Should probably trust them. Sens dont like big skilled players like Lavoie. He lacks character or so says the front office that is clearly full of high character people. So honest and genuine the sens are.

Seems like quite a few teams didn't like Lavoie.

With the way this second round is shaping up with potential first round talent, would you package a second rounder in another year with the 44th to move up?

I don't really see top end upside but he seems like a very safe pick . Almost assured of being a top 4 guy.

Good mobility
Bomb of a shot . Loves to shoot high.
Good break out pass.
Likes to carry the puck
Very calm with and without the puck
Defensively I'd say average atm .
Not overly physical .

He reminds me of a cross between O Maata and John Klingberg to be honest.

I would imagine they want Chabot to be a great #1 paired with Docker to hold it down and then Branstrom a #2 with Thomson a really good #3

Every team is hit and miss on first round picks, once you get out of the top ten it gets messy

It was the Oilers, doesn't that just about confirm he was a bad pick? :laugh:

We'll see how it all shakes out. I understand why a chunk of the fanbase is upset, but I trust the scouts.

Tkachuk = upset fans
Karlsson = upset fans
Lazar = fanbase is thrilled

Maybe the fans (largely) don't know what the hell they're talking about :laugh:

I wasn't upset with Tkachuk or Karlsson, but have to admit Lazar fooled the shit out of me. He turned out to be the bustiest bust that ever did bust.
