Speculation: Larkin trade return

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
This offseasons blows, we were suppose to be hunting for a 2C and revamping our bottom six. Not wondering if we are gonna rebuild or not.

Now we got two Kachunks in Florida, Werenski in either Tampa/Toronto, and some of the other Atlantic teams have also gotten better

These are for you Dylan.

Honestly Werenski in Tampa or Toronto would be perfect...if we as a franchise aren't charting our own aggressive course, I'm all good with other teams charting it for us...

With the news of still not expanding a trade list and Werenski rejecting Dallas, its sounding like Dylan better get used to coney dogs, little caesars, and a smattering of boos.

Him being stuck and miserable is like the 2nd or 3rd best outcome from this as far as I'm concerned, so not too mad about it

I think the other perspective is the fact that it's only July 1st. Basically, three months until the reality of him still being on the team is real. Yzerman has no interest in futures (right now) so there's been no real deadline yet. The draft made sense to people because of the picks, well, Yzerman didn't want picks. I hold firm that the real deadline is day 1 of training camp. I also hold firm that this having to drag out all summer could put this team back even further. Not an enviable spot to be in.

I might be wrong but that video to me kinda seems like he might have a 6-7 team list like had been said got expanded to shortly after the news broke.

Its actually really pathetic. I dont care if it pisses some posters off in here but I hope Larkin is traded for a Canadian/Swede/Fin. These USA guys want to be like Lebron and force their way to championships instead of earning them. Truly embarrassing

Yeah if he actually is kind of okay with staying in Detroit if he doesnt go to a couple of cities only, then he just ruined all kinds of good will for no reason. Absolute moron
If traded and they win one, wouldn’t they have earned one? I don’t like Larkin quit, but what may have gone on behind closed doors that fans aren’t privy too? I play to win within the rules. It’s his life, don’t have to like his decisions c I have enough worries with my family. The Wings will miss his speed and goal production. Maybe even some of his leadership. We shall see what time has in store!

I think Yzerman would take futures. Just not those teams futures …wild and other teams prospects are shit and picks would all be late

I would 100% rather have Larkin come back and be miserable for two years if that’s what it take before his nmc becomes a 10 team no trade list. And if I’m Yzerman I keep pushing that message to his agent.

Fans worried players wouldn’t want to come here haven’t been paying attention to the Ufa list every year. Players don’t make it and players won’t waive to go to a struggling team anyways. They all want to go play with their besties. Play hardball Stevie

Yeah just like Lebron "earned" one by colluding with other superstars in the league and loading up rosters. All this talk about the USA olympic groupchat is bullshit. Theyre all trying to get out of their current contracts that were negotiated in good faith, now they all want out and are being super picky about where they go.

You can call star players colluding to load up rosters earning one if you want, but I think its a pathetic way of doing things and against the spirit of the sport

I am not a fan of it either but it’s ts not against the rules. I wouldn’t do it but to each their own, I can’t control it. I agree coddling shouldn’t happen but it’s a thing. No matter what when you when a championship your name is on or associated with that trophy.

Don’t really get the point of not trading him for futures, it’s not like we’ve done anything else to improve the team this offseason. Maybe we swap Lee for Kane, still extremely probable we finish last in the division, with or without Larkin.

As a fan, I agree. But Yzerman hasn't shown enough to ownership (or the players) that he has the ability to build a winning/playoff team in Detroit, so I don't know if the organization has the appetite to go as far backwards as some of us want. All of the reporting is saying that Yzerman wants a center for Larkin in the deal and HSJ reported early on that Yzerman wants roster players. I'm not going to go so far to say Yzerman's job is on the line right now, but it very well could be if the plan is another 3-5 years of no playoffs when Yzerman would be in no position to guarantee anything. Shitty situaiton.

Totally, I understand the incentive behind wanting win now pieces. I’m saying he hasn’t done anything to demonstrate an actual willingness to win now this offseason. Half the league has made trades the last two weeks, Yzerman’s only trade was a futures-based one, you know?

Then maybe there's a silver lining to this dragging out after all. Chris finally demands some accountability and resets the front office to go along with the roster.

I don’t think it is going to be a smattering. Y’all will be able to hear me booing from Florida if this asshat doesn’t expand his list soon.

Werenski declining Dallas could be a win for Detroit if Larkin actually views Dallas as acceptable. Keeps Harley on the table, though unlikely. Might trigger a bit of desperation depending on the results of this Robertson ordeal.

Also, if Larkin goes to Dallas, could Werenski reconsider Dallas as a landing spot.

Dallas gets Larkin, Colombus gets Harley, Detroit gets Werenski. Dallas uses the extra $1.8M in cap to bridge the cap with and resign Robertson. Tell me I'm wrong.

I personally dont have an issue with the full nmc/ntc. If gms want to hand them out, they know the risk.

On the reverse side, if the player wants to flex it that much and only give out a couple team list, we'll get ready to show up to camp bub

i'd probably be pretty annoyed about this stuff if I were a player

this whole "trade me but oh I have a NTC so I want it to only be to one of these 3 teams" thing is gonna ruin it for players that just want some protection against having to uproot their lives and move across the country(or to another country) at the drop of a hat

From Kyperos

The Red Wings would have no problem trading Dylan Larkin to Minnesota if the Wild were prepared to part with Matt Boldy. Other than Boldy, there is nothing else Detroit GM Steve Yzerman is too interested in.
That leaves Larkin with three choices:
1. Open up the trade demand to more teams. The Wild and Golden Knights don’t have anything that excites Detroit.
2. Prepare to start next season with the Red Wings.
3. Prepare to stay home and not get paid.
As of July 1, door No. 2 looks like his best bet.

I get the feeling Larkin is going to be on the team come training camp
A lot longer than just camp if these are the three teams. They don't have anything to offer us at the deadline either, they just aren't an option right now. Unless Florida wants to offer Lundell and find some other futures from a third team for us. The other two are drawing dead it feels like.

I know it will sound vindictive, but I would get Mo a charter jet stateside if I was the Ilitch family and name him captain the day after all of the UFA signings press conference to signal the move forward and elimination of Larkin from the leadership group. Feels like we have gotten there if Dylan and Brisson want to play this game of chicken, let's start moving forward and give him a feeling of the treatment he is going to be extended moving forward from the family. We have heard too much of your voice, you're not a priority to us moving forward, you're welcome for the decade we treated you like a king before you spat in our face.

Also don't think the Ilitch family that is pretty vindictive when pushed there doesn't have the will to do something like this. I know Mike would have already arrived here so in a way Dylan is lucky he is dealing with Chris right now.
