People can dumb on Larkin all they want, but you're not gonna find a center of that caliber available in the market. In fact I don't think we will get anything close in a trade either, we will have to settle for the other positions if we want that kind of value. Which sucks because instead of building on top of Larkin down the middle, we're gonna have a bigger hole.

We missed playoffs by an average of 4 points over 3 years but please enlighten us how adding a 40 goal, 100 point guy or a Norris winner doesn’t meaningfully elevate us

Steve isn’t going to trade him. He may even keep the C on his chest and make him battle through some tough love at LCA. But the team may be better with the adversity.
I’m expecting Ed, ASP, and Al-Jo to continue improving (varying degrees). Defenders often peak later on potential than forwards, and they are all still (relatively) young. I also expect Ant-Jo to legitimately push for a roster spot. I think he’s the real deal. Assuming they keep Faulk too, our defense should be solid.
Also expecting good goaltending. Gibson gets a lot of hate, but when he’s on, he’s elite. Expect one of Postava or Augustine to make some noise in that rotation.
Our forward group is ugly on paper, but less so with Larkin. If Yzerman “adds” which has been rumored, our forward group can be serviceable. You’d expect/hope for guys like Finnie, Kasper, Danielson, MBN, Mazur(I think he signs), Bear, etc to take another step and contribute more.
If Yzerman isn’t willing to “rebuild the rebuild” or take a step back, keeping Dylan makes the most sense. We think SY’s leash with Illitch is still loose, but I’d argue there’s been discussions about making things happen fast. He may have no other choice than to make Dylan suit up. ESPECIALLY if he won’t budge on his NT team list.

It's very difficult to picture him reading the room so poorly that he sticks to 3 teams until the season starts.
But if he does, I hope McLellan gives him 5 minutes of ice time a night. With Rasmussen and Perron as wingers.
Or better yet...I wonder how long it would take the players' union to file a grievance if Larkin was named the backup goaltender.

There’s kind of number of “milestones” with this demand from Larkin. The first was the draft, the next will be the free agency period. It’s all well and good because it’s his actual day to day right now isn’t any different than any other offseason. Relax, play golf, spend time with family etc. Training camp gets closer - now he is facing the awkwardness of stepping into a locker room full of guys who he said “you’re not good enough”, and despite it all, Larkin doing this hurts the team and in a very real way hurts their pocket book because their value goes down without him helping them win and their stats. Now he’s in a new phase of being in a workplace where everyone is like “F this guy”. Does stepping into that every day make him expand his list or sit out?
Now the next step, he steps on the ice for a game … and here comes the boos. Etc etc eventually he sits at home and how he’s watching people play hockey and this isn’t business as usual. Face with the prospect of being booed by fans and distrusted by his teammates etc -
This just keeps building but it continues to build towards him expanding his list - maybe we get a Eichel move where he changes agents halfway through or begins to get testy in the media like Redden. The only time I’ve seen Yzerman call and openly speak of a trade in progress was when Drouins agent said they had a deal and it was scuttled and Yzerman came out openly and said the agent was lying basically, so that could be a fun scenario in the future.
Brisson is an experienced and smart agent - he knows where this is gong to head and I imagine he is trying to work with the Wings to avoid the very mounting bad milestones coming up

I think you are right about the increasing pressure. If Larkin is really not expanding his list, it reads to me like he has some notion that he gets to just dictate his perfect dream spot. Like he has some vision of fun times with his buddies in mind, and is going to be toddler stubborn about it.
Put another way, this reads more like "I want this exact thing, and I don't care if it makes sense, nananananaa!", than having some reasonable set of criteria that differentiate his landing spot from some defined set of problems being in Detroit. It's "I want exactly what I want", not "I want out of these particular problems"
The reality that this is a business decision is going to come to roost. He's not winning a game of chicken with Yzerman. Hopefully his agent will explain to him that he will tank his own career and professional reputation before he gets traded off for an unreasonable return.
There is a chance that outside of going to a team of his choice Larkin is more comfortable returning than we give him credit for.

I personally dont have an issue with the full nmc/ntc. If gms want to hand them out, they know the risk.
On the reverse side, if the player wants to flex it that much and only give out a couple team list, we'll get ready to show up to camp bub
Well that’s where the rule needs to change. Cool to hand it out so you’re protected. Soon as you ask out you need to give at least 8-10 teams you’d go to
