Speculation: Larkin trade return

Are you just not a believer in Wallstadt?
We have Gibson currently + Augustine + postava + Guimond and pradel in the pipeline

It’s like trading for another bottom 6 player. We don’t need them

Minnesota literally has nothing to offer the redwings and if we took wallstedt he’d immediately be flipped

Probably end up being Minnesota.

So, we get 1st 27, Danila Yurov, Bobby Brink RFA rights, Jesper Wallstedt & Charlie Stramel
for Dylan Larkin and Mason Appleton (50% retained).

We can get better prospects elsewhere, but the limited teams controls the market a little bit and this adds to our goalie situation we get a later 1st and three players with different levels of upside, of which two can play right now in addition to the goalie.

And it gives the option of trading a goalie if need be for a different position.

I agree with you

Think it'll be Minnesota for a such a pckg

Cossa then dealt elsewhere

There is more than one way to leverage our goaltending depth. I asked about Wallstadt within the context of flipping Gibson + Cossa/Postava for other assets.

Cossa for someone like Savoie or Connelly

Gibson with retention for 2nd + or a 1st.

You could potentially walk away with Yurov + wallstadt + Stramel/1st + Savoie/Connelly + 1st/2nd + 3rd.

We’re all collectively hoping to parlay Larkin into good forwards, especially a centre.

If Wallstedt is the centrepiece coming back, that doesn’t help us in that regard. And the forwards we could conceivably get for Cossa and Postava won’t hold a candle to what we can get for Larkin.

We don’t need a goalie, and we shouldn’t spend the most valuable trading token we’ve had in possibly decades in getting one. Especially when that is a position of relative strength organizationally.

On one hand, it is crazy you have Quinn, Larkin, Tkachuk, Hellebuyck all asking to be moved after the Olympics.

But to then assume kids that are 10 years younger are going to pull the same stunt because of it down the line is a big stretch for me, personally.

You also have guys like Connor and Werenski who seem pretty loyal to their teams, even though they aren’t in ideal situations.

Will Connor stay if Hellebuyck leaves though? I have a feeling that both of them re-upped knowing the other was staying.

Which is I'd say respectable return, but not necessarily something eye shattering goodie bag on paper. There would be decent potential there though. As said the whole time, this team, unless a high draft pick lands on our lap in a trade, needs to develop their own stars from within and each piece of the team contributing to becoming a strong team.

I do agree with you, but if the other options don't have something really intriguing that's on the table you have to wait it out or go for the bigger package.

Yes, but my overall point is that unless you get lucky, you won't end up with a very good player with 20 and later 1st round picks, which is the best you can hope for moving a player to a contender.
i know, i was just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian XD

Ya, I wouldn't be thrilled but adding Wallstadt would give us a long term goalie + flexibility to trade Gibson/Cossa/Postava.

Idk. Im mostly just tossing the idea around more so than campaigning for it.

I just don't think he's worth Larkin and that the position in general isn't worth dealing a premium chip like a 1C for - especially with the less than desirable pieces Minny has to put with him.

That's fair.

I definitely wouldn't be thrilled but I'm also not feeling optimistic about any trade return thrilling me.

I don't see how its Minnesota at this point. They have nothing of value that Yzerman wants. The list is beyond just Minnesota, Florida, and Vegas. I'm thinking its probably one of the young upcoming teams in the West he gets traded to that already has a star player and he doesn't have to be the guy.

Vegas won’t trade Connelly for cossa … Savoie I’m Meh on. Rather make the Utah trade a big one
Gibson won’t fetch a first with one year left

That trade package is depressing . I don’t care for yakov Smirnoff or stramel

Make Larkin wait it out till he stops being stupid. I’m not giving into his one demand

Vegas needs a goalie. Their goaltending could have cost them a pick.

As for us, beggars can't be choosers.

And if I'm dealing my 1C to rebuild the rebuild, I want to end up with a high draft pick in 2027. So I'm also dealing Gibson, not bringing in a good young goaltender to mitigate the short term tank.

Same. (Mostly just bc I don’t love that return from a value perspective)

Also not convinced our FO would want Wallstedt, given they already passed on him once before.

I'm with you on positional value. We just saw a playoffs where guys like Freddy andersson, carter heart, blackwood/wedgewood, dobas, etc. backstopped teams to playoff runs. A lot of good but not great goalies, and sometimes the good part was questionable, too.

We need a better team in front of the goalies, this is a chance to go out and get some of those assets. The wait sucks, but I'd rather wait than take back a goalie.
