Rumor: Larkin requests trade

You missed my point. What if Seider and Raymond feel the same way that Larkin does? What if the core and future of the team thinks the front office is doing a crappy job and they also want out of town?

I mean yeah then we're completely and utterly screwed and this board should just get taken down and there's nothing left to talk about.

You're a blast at parties

You never know but They’re too young to want out atm I’d think + they’re besties will they really want to split up? Larkin lost bertuzzi and probably cried in his moms basement since

We need to acquire younger talent with huge upside and stop p***yfooting our kids and give them bigger roles. The youth is who will carry this team

Target a mctavish etc on side moves. If pettersson can be had at a decent cost put him with Raymond. I’d try and get a top 5 pick this next draft and get ufa’s to deal next deadline if we don’t get a mctavish pettersson etc.. and come back the year after

what if every single player in the NHL all sit out simultaneously and refuse to play another game and also all the people living in every single NHL city simultaneously blocked the entrances to every arena until the Wings are relegated to the ECHL and Yzerman is both fired and his name is completely removed from history and everyone forever after pretends that he never existed

The NTC and trade request are relevant for sure here, but there’s just no way that Larkin says “I’m only going to Minnesota, Florida, or Tampa” and Yzerman is like “Oh ok makes sense we’ll take Stramel and change.” I think fans overstate this idea sometimes, but I legitimately think Yzerman would let Larkin rot before taking that.
A true captain move that will then manage to make Yzerman 100% the hero again among his haters and would be the best captain thing Larkin ever done.

as much as I’d want a home run trade for Larkin if I we could I’d be very tempted to trade him to like traktor in the knl league

This is the most interesting thing the wings have been involved in for a long time

We basically half stepped the building around Larkin group… Debrincat/Kane/Copp/Gibson/Chiarot… these guys were brought in to support the Larkin core…
Real priority was develop these draft picks into better players in the best case scenario replace the old core
I think it ticked off Larkin that our trades were kind of half baked to keeps as many assets but improving the team with marginal guys that fill a need but the priority was always the prime Seider core

Hughes could have just agreed to sign an extension if he wanted to come to Detroit. It wasn't hard.
I don’t think anyone would do that, even if he wanted to come to Detroit. As a player, After next year, you can see what all your options are and it’s likely that the longer you wait the more the cap goes up and you get paid more as AAV anyways

Then he can't really be upset can he. If he want to come after next season he can come.

I'm not rooting for disaster. I'm trying to be realistic about how big the current mess is.

Yzerman has this roster in a really bad spot at the moment. It's certainly possible to pivot from here and have a fantastic summer in terms of rebuilding the rebuild, while also making sure existing talent remains bought in and on board. But that's a tall task for a great front office firing on all cylinders, let alone the current pro scouting department (and possibly some of the relationships with the players).

Do I hope the next few months are a massive success? Absolutely. But there's a wide spectrum of possible outcomes, and many are downright ugly.

We'll see. When Utah was interested in Thomas at the TDL, the reports were that they wouldn't include Desnoyers or Simashev. I thought they should have. Granted, Thomas is better, younger, and has a better contract than Larkin. I hope teams make these types of trades but GMs seem to always hold onto to their blue chip prospects especially their top 5 picks. This is why the Hughes trade was stunning since it included Buium. Then again Hughes is a top 5 player in the league.
True. We've already seen buffalo willing to trade some significant pieces for the botched Parayko trade so maybe there's an appetite for it. Also it's not every year that three 1B/2C calibre players are are seemingly on the market at the same time. It should be a fun summer regardless

This is actually the opportunity Detroit needed to have a chance at long term success and a potential dynasty. SY has been riding that fine line of rebuild and win-now. That strategy doesn’t work, it just creates perpetual fringe playoff mediocrity.

Now, if SY fumbles this ala Walman disaster and trades him for useless parts, I think we will all be calling for his departure as well.

We’ve waited how long now to have faith in this organization? A decade? What’s a few more years. If Steve wants to do a mini tear down and sell the likes of Cat, Larks, Gibson, Copp, Ras, JT, Chiarot etc. for picks and promising prospects, we have the foundation to support it. I’m for that.

Dahlin and Thompson didn’t ask out when Eichel parted ways with Buffalo.

Landeskog and MacKinnon didn’t ask out when Duchene demanded a trade.

Like, sure it could happen but there are examples of it not happening.

Dylan Larkin for Jason Robertson
Just thinking if that were the case might as well add Debrincat for a center whether it's the same trade or something separate. Would be necessary immediately right? That's why I find it less likely, but there were some rumors about Robertson already too.

Understood. I'm just saying that it's very naive to assume that Larkin was the only player in that locker room that had complaints, or that trading him will magically bring everybody together. It's possible, but far from a foregone conclusion.

Yes it is.

He’s a very prideful player. A workhorse. I believe he re-signs and gets an A.

I would suggest that Larkin has those same qualities and held the C. And now he wants out.

Eventually people get frustrated and look to improve their situation. One of the options to do so is to look for a new place to ply your trade that, in your belief has greater potential for growth and success. It happens in all industry and commerce across all levels of the workforce.

Remember what Larkin said 2 TDLs ago about GM19? He was already telegraphing that his wick was burning down…no one should be too surprised. ADB signed in Detroit to win not be on a perpetual mid meh rebuilding org.
