Rumor: Larkin requests trade

What’s funny about it? Hughes,in being so effusive in his praise for Guerin, seemed to call out others who were apprehensive. You really think it’s a stretch to think Larkin was pissed the Wings didn’t pull the trigger on a Hughes trade?
Your claim on Hughes being upset that Yzerman didn't push harder for the trade?

Then maybe Hughes should've been willing to sign a contract extension - hmmm?

None of what you posted makes any sense.

And then Minnesota being so close to Michigan (where Hughes grew up) and the state of hockey and the passion here. Just seeing how the fans reacted to me as well in warm-ups. And then obviously, I have a lot of time for Billy for 'sacking up' and making the deal like he did and how he valued me."

Yep, zero sense

And is the ink drying on the new contract?

Again, he’s open to it, a lot more open to it then signing here, right?
'Open to it' is something Yzerman wasn't willing to risk - with this team having limited talent why would he risk losing young quality player/s (apparently Ed was 1 player in the package) for what could be a glorified rental...For all we know Hughes could join his bros next summer in NJ.

That's why this trade didn't make any sense and for Hughes not wanting to sign an extension only proves it.

Understood. I'm just saying that it's very naive to assume that Larkin was the only player in that locker room that had complaints, or that trading him will magically bring everybody together. It's possible, but far from a foregone conclusion.
It is possible the team felt like Larkin was one of the issues due to his leadership.

How often has the team been inspired by Larkin or rallied behind him? Does anything about his tenure as captain made you think "man this guy is a good leader"?

Kinda dick move, he's basically quitting but he could be doing a favor. Top UFAs ain't signing here and trade targets are blocking the trades, only way to get good players is through draft.

And the return won't be so great, im thinking that Minnesota is the next location. Close to home but in the west and best buddy is there.

I wanted a youth movement and im certainly getting one.

Not at all interested in Minnesota as a trade partner. Stramel and Yurov both feel like their ceilings are those of middle six forwards.

These are the guys who weren't good enough to move the needle in the Quinn Hughes trade to the point where Minnesota had to send Buium over.

Well honk my hooters was I wrong about the possibility of this ever happening.

I guess the end of season meeting with Yzerman and Larkin didn't go well?

Larkin is a very good player and he definitely cares, but something was wrong in that locker room. I hope it was Larkin. Not because I hate the guy, but because it means it's getting addressed.

Crazy that when he got put in a headlock by Zub in his first game back from injury, no Wings player did anything until after the fact DeBrincat fought Zub.

It's clear that he's not the right fit for this roster. But that's an indictment on both Larkin and the roster, especially given how much praise he received for leadership and dedication when playing in the Four Nations and the Olympics.

The most likely scenario is that the locker room is divided to some extent, with Larkin being the most vocal player on the side of dissatisfaction. So Yzerman needs to put his big boy pants on and clean up the mess he built.

3 straight nosedives in the standings when it matters the most...Something within the locker room has been amiss...Not sure if moving DBoss resolves anything (are other player/s a factor), but at least it's a start...Just hope we get 'fair' value in return.

Just thinking if that were the case might as well add Debrincat for a center whether it's the same trade or something separate. Would be necessary immediately right? That's why I find it less likely, but there were some rumors about Robertson already too.

With elite wingers, having elite centers is less necessary.

JR (Jason Robertson) isn't going to make DRWs instant cup contenders, but you have start hoping Kasper and Danielsson can at least be good enough to be carried by the likes of JR.

Also remember Cat-Kasper-Kane line was lethal during last pre-season which carried over from late 2024 season. Kasper isn't a bust and I expect him to develop into a respectable 2nd line center. Just need elite wingers to really untap him.

I’m beginning to think that this was discussed after the season, Larkin being frustrated and distraught and Yzerman thinking they need a culture change and both agreed to see what was out there. I think the leak came from someone like Guerin who wants to drive down the return for the Wings and out pressure on the return being asked.

He actually does have a lot of OT goals/game winners. But I get what you're saying.

I do know there are guys that really like Larkin on this team, maybe there is a 'divide' between older/younger players...

We've seen Chariot/Raymond get physical with each other

Step away from the board at the end of the season, saw the news, decided to see how you all were doing...

Honestly, I thought it would be worse.

Is it perverse that I'm oddly more excited for this off-season than in a long time?

I would suggest that Larkin has those same qualities and held the C. And now he wants out.

Eventually people get frustrated and look to improve their situation. One of the options to do so is to look for a new place to ply your trade that, in your belief has greater potential for growth and success. It happens in all industry and commerce across all levels of the workforce.

Remember what Larkin said 2 TDLs ago about GM19? He was already telegraphing that his wick was burning down…no one should be too surprised. ADB signed in Detroit to win not be on a perpetual mid meh rebuilding org.
Fair enough. I agree somewhat.

Still… I feel as if ADB feels much more responsible for the team now.

We all should be wanting ADB back with this news.

Like I said, whatever you do, you can't run it back. This is not running it back.

I honestly think this is best for everyone. It will force the brass to pick the rebuild lane from this point forward. The decision tree won't have many branches. I trust Yzerman to move Larkin and Cat, but I think we need to let someone else from outside of the organization take a crack at putting it back together. A failed rebuild was always the most likely outcome. I don't hold that against Yzerman. Just let someone else have a try.

It's definitely more interesting, things have not been going well for Larkin here and a change of scenery at this point is needed. The best thing in all of this is the free agent market this off season is bad for centers and there are some teams around the league that are in need.

Lmfao holy shit aaaron ward has lost his f***en mind
