Rumor: Larkin requests trade

This is basically it, imo. Larkin and Yzerman are going to have to work together to get them both what they want. Larkin isn't going to accept a trade to just anywhere, and Yzerman sure as shit isn't going to be bullied. If they can't successfully thread that needle, Larkin will be back in the winged wheel next season for some major awkwardness.

This is all true, but I don't see any way that Yzerman allows Larkin to be on the team after this got out. Larkin is gone and it'll be quick.

Bro. This is crazy. I'm quoting you because I can't believe how the cascading effect of trading that 1st for Faulk has butterfly effected it's way to Larkin asking out. I must be really dumb because it's completely mindboggling. How do you trade a 1st, then two months later your captain wants out. I have no clue what Yzerman does here, but he does have a track record of situations like these when he was forced to trade Marty St. Louis out of Tampa when St. Louis only wanted to go to the Rangers, and that worked out for Tampa.

I'm flabbergasted because all of the discourse around Larkin seemed so farfetched to me, so I apologize to everyone who believed this was an actual possibility!
Don't forget that bitch instantly got "hurt" as soon as we got him some help! Guys seriously go look at my Larkin criticism over the years I have at least 50 infractions from mods shitting on that coward and I wear them as a badge of honor!

Well losers going … what’s the plan ? If it’s a bunch of kids back debrincat is gone … if it ends up with a Thomas trade he sticks

Who are legitimately in for Larkin

Mtl here already dreaming of trades I can’t imagine he accepts Canada

Minnesota
Anaheim
L.a

He wants to compete for a cup but likes of vegas, Colorado , Tampa won’t be able to accept him

Minnesota - traded all youth only way I do this trade is if we take wallstedt etc… and flip it to stl for Thomas

Ducks is the front runner atm …. McQueen+ mctavish + for Larkin sounds good to me

L.a - byfield + …. Unfortunately pipeline is meh

Any other teams come to mind

I think there’s a decent shot we have both a new #1 center and new GM by the time we drop the puck on opening night.

This is wild.

Guess we don’t have to worry about “running it back”, lol.
I'm here for this rollercoaster offseason honestly. I've been vocal about trading Larkin (and 27) to turn the page from the Holland era finally. This now gives us a new direction rather than running it back, which is what I was afraid about. No more 90 point seasons finishing 9th in the conference

I'm unsure of what this means for Debrincat, Kane, and some of the other vets. The uncertainty I certainly welcome though

Maybe they can attach Rasmuffin or JT "cardio" Compher to Larkin on the way out too :naughty:

You're probably right, as Yzerman will want to avoid the drama. I'm certainly not banking on Larkin being back now. However, I'm not so sure it'll be quick, since we're still 3+ months from training camp, so it's not like Larkin is around the org currently. Yzerman is going to want to get maximum return, whatever that is, and I'm not convinced that'll be next week or whatever.

So Yzerman brings in bunch of “character” vets so the team doesn’t have a losing culture, teams misses playoffs each year, misses out on chance to get some top prospects, and then the #1 C asks for a trade. Don’t seem him lasting much longer either
Yea it's bizarre, to look back at it and gift awful vets contracts and playing time while making hungry kids who might try a little bit sit forever. Dom Shine and Cam Talbot though.

I get the placeholders until the kids come up view but never giving them a shot over obvious guys going through the motions just sucks. Not that Dom didn't try, moreso the jerseys like Rasmussen and Compher.

This is where Yzerman either earns a longer run as GM, or where his tenure ends. I didn't think Yzerman would/should be given the opportunity to make this type of trade after the lack of success, but here we are. Yzerman has to get it right. This is a legacy defining time in his GM career.

Well, I thought he needed to be traded anyway so I guess this forces the issue.

But what a mess. This pushes the timeline back several years assuming the compensation isn't way better than I'm expecting.

It's a little difficult to paint Yzerman's rebuild as anything other than a failure at this point.
