Rumor: Larkin requests trade

Taking this as true, it’s a tough spot man. A team with Seider, Raymond, DeBrincat, Edvinsson, might be too good to like properly bottom out and pick top 3. But some kind of on-the-fly rebuild might put us right back here in 5 years.

I just want to reflect on what a dick move this is. Yzerman trades a first to get Larkin the help he says he needs to make the playoffs, then Larkin totally bails on the team. They're going to get very little in return from this trade, so they really could have used that first rounder to get a center to replace him.

Larkin is a traitor to me now. He f***ed this team over with the way he went about this.
It's not at all surprising though finding out about his character, or lack there of, over the last 3 seasons.

He knows we have no talent in the pipeline that gives us any hope of being competitive anytime soon. Best option is to trade and rebuild from scratch

A little surprising, but Friedman makes a good point about his buddies previously making power moves. Probably emboldened him. And I believe that him and Yzerman really don't get along.

Well, it will officially be Mo's team, who I think should be a much stronger leader at least.

This has to reset the rebuild though, might be completely irresponsible to not tank at least next season. Gotta trade away more than just Larkin. Really focus on building around Mo now.

That all said, I might be getting ahead of myself. I can see a scenario where Yzerman says eff you, you're playing on this team for two more years, until that NTC diminishes.

Haul with bus NTC? Where does he want to go? Maybe the Wings can get a early first rounder for him or another number 1 center or one who could turn into one?
He's requesting a trade. Yzerman will call his f***in bluff on that NTC if he tries to harm the Wings with it. NTC's hurt you when you're trying to proactively sell a guy. If Larkin wants out bad enough to publicly request a trade, then he's really shooting himself in the dick to say "I want a trade but not there!"

Anyone thinking they should swap him for an equivalent center is making no sense. They need a top draft pick in this year's draft and start rebuilding the rebuild. No sense in trying to band-aid this team.

If Larkin is traded we not only need a 1C but also a 2C and additional scoring top six forward. My question has Chris Illitch tied Yzerman's hands in making any major moves to upgrade the team? I tend to think, yes but Yzerman is partially to blame.

What. He's asking for a trade. Larkin's NTC isn't going to be an issue. He wants out so bad, he can f***in waive it.

He's a very good player and if they do find a trade partner, it's going to be a good return.
NTCs are *always* an issue for big ticket players who request a trade. He's going to want to go to a team like Minnesota who doesn't have much to send back. This is going to be a late 1st round pick, B prospect, and 3rd line center return.

Unless they can get Florida's 1st round pick somehow.

You guys likely don't want to hear from outside fans, but I've been there with Eichel, and it f***ing sucks.

Good luck.
You're right... we don't want to hear it from outside fans.

Also... Eichel left Buffalo because the Sabres and him fundamentally disagreed about a medical procedure that would impact his career. Not because they sucked. This is not that situation.
