I guess I miss an avalanche of news but

I think Trotz was losing it during the season. He gradually lost the room, and his line combinations were under scrutiny since 2020. To assume he wasn't a great coach is stupid, but he did have a shelf life. I await what Lambert can do, and if we can snag a guy like Montgomery or Army, we'll be a much better, quicker team. The isles are gonna make it. Truzz in Lambert.

I think Andy Greene will come out of uniform and coach the defense.
Could be. In fact, I found my old post from about a month after we acquired Greene, speculating about him as coaching material:

I don't remember if I posted this previously, but doesn't Greene strike you as the kind of guy who has future NHL coach written all over him?

The reason against him being a coach long term in the league is that he wasn't really willing to relocate during the end of his career. He didn't want to play anywhere but in the New York metro area, so if he's coaching it'd likely only be in the same area until his children get a bit older.

But I assume he'd be okay with coaching for NYI or NJD (if he wants to coach)? I would not be surprised to see Lambert hire 2 more experienced assistants but then for the third go with a guy the players already know and respect (like Greene or Chara - not sure if either are interested though).

If he's going to, that's the route, absolutely. It's just odd for guys that want to coach to put constraints on it, "I'm willing to coach, but only in these ideal locations or else I'm not doing it" isn't usually a good recipe to become a successful coach long term. Not sure he wants to be a coach long term or if the Metro area would be the perfect spot to get your feet wet before making the plunge elsewhere, which it might be.

Hopefully we can poach a PP specialist from another team to join us. Colorado, St. Louis, and Washington had the top regular season PP % but how much of that is skewed by talent vs. scheme????? Would like a creative offensive mind on the staff and those could be places to start looking.

talent is needed. this team desperately needs to get Palmieri and Barzal going on the power play, and its baffling how Trotz, Gruden and Hiller refused to put the two together past the first few games

I don't know how a PP coach can get guys to stop hesitating on their passes. I don't know how a PP coach can get the guys to move the puck quickly and accurately. I don't know how a PP coach can get guys like Pulock and Wahlstrom to shoot accurately.

We're going onto our 3rd power play coach in 5 years. Maybe it's not the coaches?

Agree. Specifically with not getting Palmieri more PP time. While on the Devils he consistently put up 11 PP goals every year for the past five years. Last year he had two. He really should've been placed in Pageau's PP1 bumper spot.

I can understand limiting his time earlier in the season, but after coming back healthy and producing more they still wouldn't give him more PP time.

Ideally your PP unit should be
Lee-Nelson-Barzal-Palmieri-Dobson-PP1
Pageau-Beau-Bailey (if he's still here)-Wally-Pulock-PP2

If we wanna improve, that PP2 unit gotta change because I do not like seeing Bailey playing. This team needs more talent eventually.

Unless we're willing to take a hot dog for Bailey, he'll still be here.
