Maybe, but it’s just speculation.

Regardless, he was lower on their board than Mesar and Beck.
Was he though?

I mean, if you think you can get Hutson in the 2nd round, why wouldn't you draft Beck earlier and get Hutson later?

I do this in my fantasy drafts all the time. It doesn't always pan out (this year I missed Caufield by two picks) but it usually does. I drafted Hutson in my pool in the very late stages. I felt he could be really good and drafted inferior players ahead of him because I knew he'd be around. I think the same principle applies here.

If the guy's 5'7, you probably know he's not going to be drafted until later. Why wouldn't you take advantage of that and take Beck for now and Hutson later?

You guys should focus on getting him an elite two way or defensive defenceman to play with him early in his career. Not sure who you have in the pipeline.

I wish we'd done that with Hughes within the first few years of his career. Hronek is great but ideally he can anchor his own pairing. We're hoping Willander can be that guy.

time will tell
many players take more time, he is not a old man

Mesar's issue is not his development, its that they're being way too conservator with him. In my opinion they're trying to teach him a lesson. Last game they put him on the 4th line despite scoring the second goal and almost getting an assist on the first one.

No one teached him the right way of playing hockey and in a spam of 2-4 week he fixed the holes in his game.

It shows he's hungry to learn and be an NHLer.

Reinbacher is our best bet for that but unfortunately big RHD are in short supply which is why they often get overdrafted (Reinbacher, Levshunov).

Hopefully Reinbacher can step in and be that guy, but for now Matheson has been surprisingly solid since being asked to simplify his play and mostly defer to Hutson to drive the offense while being able to smoothly skate out of trouble.

Its in their draft video. They're talking about how they could get Hutson in the third round. They took him at the end of the 2nd.
They were discussing the 62nd pick. One guy said something about good value for the 3rd round … maybe because it was just a few picks away.

And Bobrov later said he was “projected to go higher by most rankings”.

I am not saying Orville cant be good, but with the injury and no development, he is mininum 2 years away
We should be trying to make the playoffs and win the cup THIS season. All trading options should be open, all picks and prospects should be available. Also bringing in Demidov for the playoffs could throw off teams enough to tilt the ice in our favour. We already proved we can hang with the best teams. Let's make this season a Cinderella story.

Reinbacher is a good fit and it really sucks he got injured. A big set back for this development so when he is ready is delayed by one year. As you know, the RD availability is just not there.

The Matheson/Hutson pairing was one that came out of nowhere and is working out very well (for now). Hutson started with Savard but it didn't work out well. The Habs made a genius move trading Barron for the older Carrier. Carrier is not flashy but gets the job done and has changed our D pairings. We also sent Primeau down and called up Dobes who is off to a crazy start with those games against the Panthers and Avs (on the road).

Habs team D and goaltending seems stable now. We will see how long that lasts. Personally, I'm not as quick to want Matheson traded as some other Habs fans.

This guy from the Athletic has Lane Hutson in 4th for the Calder.

NHL awards watch: Leon Draisaitl leads a fascinating MVP field

Not sure how his dubious trash stats are working but how is Heineman rated lower than Bolduc offensively while he has twice as many goals and around 40% more points while playing less?

You still consider Mesar a great prospect?
Great? No. A bust? Absolutely not.

He is an interesting prospect to have.

Why is it a real stretch? The East is weak. We could definitely make it to a final.

Would be amaizing to destroy the Leafs AGAIN in the 1st round. Would be Epic AGAIN!

The Habs do have a roster that can cause some damage. Especially if our team D and goaltending continues. If that part continues to be stable, we have game breakers to win tight games. Team confidence and momentum is a major factor. Habs are heating up at the right time.

Facing the Leafs in the 1st round and knocking them out (again) would make my life difficult with several of my friends who are Leafs fan. I had a good friend of mine who didn't talk to me for over a month haha. He almost started to cry and said he has been waiting for a cup his whole life and the Habs might win another one before his Leafs do

I am trying not to look too far ahead, but I am not afraid of any tea in the east other than Florida. Leafs and Caps I feel we can take.

I tend to agree. Mesar is lacking physical strength. His skill, vision, and skating is very good. Can he figure out the maturity and add some muscle? Not sure but his time is not over yet.

Mesar with a dynamic center and a powerforward RW yields better results than you might expect.

I won't hold my breath but there is still some hope with this kid

Even the Panthers are not as gritty as they were last season. Still an effective team but not as scary as before IMO.

Maybe we are getting a bit gullible on the Habs expectations but it's not impossible they continue to play well. You have to assume better 2nd halfs from Slaf, Dach, & Newhook and Laine was only getting started

It's all connected to team D and sound goaltending. All the momentum and confidence comes from this

Don't forget Dobes and Carrier.

I don't think anyone is being gullible. The team is playing well. I know winning feels weird.
