For all the love that Quinn Hughes gets as a skater (and he is a beautiful skater), Lane Hutson's NHL-Edge metrics for skating are the same or better than Hughes' metrics.

This doesn’t jibe with the dozen + comments in this thread about him having below average speed.

We did pass on him. 3 times.

We got super lucky; having said that, I wonder how far he would have fallen if we passed on him in general.

At Habs camp he was measured at 5'9¾, which is 5'10.

I saw some media people (I don't remember whom) who were saying a few days ago that Ds who hit 50+ points in their rookie season are automatic win for the Calder. It would take a forwards being PPG at season end to probably take it from them.

But then this is the Habs, Hutson will probably need to finish the season with like 20 more points than the next rookie to actually win the Calder.

I mean they played it perfectly. They projected they'd get him where they did and managed to secure two other great prospects in the process.

IMHO, we have passed on Hutson two times. I was hoping we drafted Hutson in the 1st and early 2nd round. We are so lucky no team believed in Hutson.

Great prospects play in NHL at 18/19, too early to tell if he’s serviceable prospect or not. Complicated by the injuries, he needs to play to better project

IF Habs do qualify for wildcard, Hutson will undoubtedly have played a key role which will magnify itself in Calder voting and raise his stature significantly pole vaulting the rest of the nominees

And you know what, I think Hutson can do it. He is getting better and better as the season moves along.

It's clearly the case that Hutson is an excellent Calder candidate.

But so is Celebrini.

He is absolutely brutal and seems to think he possesses knowledge beyond that of a mortal hockey fan

He's one of my favourite posters cause he's so hilariously out to lunch while simultaneously thinking he's the smartest guy in the the room. He's like a Will Ferrell character.

He has no issue, at all, with authoritatively giving opinions on players he doesn't even watch.

He has another gem in the Jake Evans thread where he has announced that Filip Mesar is a "pick that didn't work out."
