He has very big shoulder pads. But he's not terribly tiny

I would assume he broke the record for the NHL's lightest defensemen ever. 162 lbs is insane for a defensemen. Though I have no clue if there's been any D that light, it just seems he would be the lightest ever.

I tuned into the 3rd to watch him. He certainly stood out. He's really got potential to become something special. A little bit "all over the place", but he can skate well and doesn't look that small.

He's 5'10. Same height as Hughes and only 1 inch smaller than Harris.
He does need to put on some weight and get stronger, but that didn't seem an issue today.
There is absolutely no evidence of that and he looked quite a bit smaller than Harris during the anthems.

He is small and will always be small but he impressed me tonight, I feel better about him now that he has shown that he has a chance to be a passable defender. He is definitely going to put up numbers and his intensity/compete is through the roof.

This response is very, very stupid.

He’ll need a partner that will compliment his game & know where to position when he decides to jump in the play.
Charlie Elick is the perfect partner for him. Id go hard after him with Winnipegs pick.

Guhle-Reinbacher
Hutson-Helick
Xhekaj-Struble
Harris/Barron/Mailloux/Engstrom

I was impressed. He’ll get plastered, but let’s not forget that he is playing two meaningful games. Detroit is going cutthroat.

Oh, and this D-squad will be 100 times better once they get rid of this STOOOOOPID man-to-man system. What the f*** is this?!??

Man to man is murdering me. Can’t wait for it to be over.

There is no doubt he'll take licks just like Harris does.

I think he’ll be the type to bounce it off. He’ll look like a pinball, but has such a motor that he’ll be the type to jump right back up and fly like a hyperactive kid.

No clue who proposed this system. It’s plain dog shit.
It's supposed to help us generate offense off turnovers and transition yet we've not scored any more goals this season than last.
To make it worse we aren't really known as a very good one on one team. We have very few players who can snuff out plays on their own.

Not a long term solution, but I thought Savard did well with him tonight.

They both leaned on eachother a bit. Hutson was a breakout machine.
Big Dave is so good for the young defs this year (and last year).

Someone stated he will be a great defenseman coach later and I agree. Getting a 1st for him at tdl next year would be fine but I'm very happy we kept him this year. Too many young defs coming up to leave them without a solid mentor and partner to ease them in.
