Really? The pass itself is great and when you watch the whole sequence, it's pretty impressive by him.

That said, he gets turnstyled at least once or twice a game defensively and has a lot of development to do.

The pass is a basic pass that any professional player should make... the awareness to jump was fine, but Hutson gets praised when he passes gas... such an overrated player, this play is an example.

This is just so not true that it's not worth arguing further honestly...agree to disagree i guess.

Just close your eyes and say that he sucks at defense because he's short like everybody's been doing.

Nevermind the fact that this 2nd round pick is doing better than any D in his draft class.
Did you forget Mintyukov was from the same draft? Unless, of course, him having more points makes him a better defenseman in your eyes?

i have to agree

I don't understand the hype other than Habs fans doing what they always do.

Gostisbehere was much better as a rookie and received half the hype. Lane's ceiling is Gostisbehere

#1, he does suck defensively, it's a fact
#2 he's definitely not as good or close to Minty

Nope, and frankly it's not close.

brother, it was a routine pass, nothing special

Lane isn't close to Hughes or Nemec, you're selling Nemec short.

That was far from routine, I don't know what you're talking about. Most defenseman would just shoot the puck quickly in that situation. Suzuki isn't even open until very last second, it was good poise and patience by him to let the Ranger dman come over and slip it under the stick right on the tape, no look pass.

Like I'm not saying it's threadworthy on it's own or anything but to claim that's a routine play for a defenseman or even a top6f is false, there's a ton of middle ground. I'd be ecstatic if any NYR dman outside of Adam Fox made a play/pass like that.

If he's gonna have a thread on the mainboards that's gonna be bumped regularly, sure let's see plays like that posted.

Minty? He's 1 year older, second year in the NHL and Hutson is easily outpacing Pavel's last year's production (this season also) and has better adv stats. How is he not close? Draft pedigree? Height?

What fact? He's doing good defensively for a rookie. Show me something.

So Mintyukov having less points makes him a better defenseman?

460th in xGF
442nd in GF

Those stats should produce better results...
No one that values advanced stats uses flat xGF or thinks it's a meaningful indicator of anything, because it's extremely dependent on the quality of the teammates around a player and the systems they run. What matters is whether the team gets better or worse when a player is on the ice, and Montreal gets better. Coupled with the fact that Hutson isn't being sheltered against tough competition and has the same amount of defensive and offensive zone starts at 20 years old, his performance has been very encouraging this year.

Mintyukov: 25.11.2003
Hutson: 14.02.2004

Less than 4 month age difference and from the same draft. But somehow that Minty managed to get at a younger age into the NHL is now turned into a negative. Why am I not surprised about the attempt to twist the reality?

I actually think Hutson could be something special... but he hasn't proven it yet, there is potential though.

He is all hype at this point.

It's less than 1 percent below Matheson- a guy that's proven himself a capable, top 4 NHL defenseman- as a 20 year old rookie who isn't getting easy minutes.

He's having a great rookie year analytically, especially considering his usage and role. The list of NHL defenseman who didn't get caved in at his age is short, and he's not.

lol they’re 2 1/2 months apart in age, but don’t let that reality stop you from attempting to make it look like there’s a years gap in age.

And I hate to break it to you, but the primary job of a defenseman is to play defense first. Having more points doesn’t equate to being a better defenseman.

Hutson has been quality lately. Very good november for him

Making more simple plays, getting caught out of position less, not trying to be the hero every time. Weirdly the exact things I said would help him be more effective.

Glad to see it.
