New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

Get someone who prioritizes drafter and player development. Big free agents don’t come to LI
Forget about them not coming here. The deals usually end up being awful. The NHL has gotten significantly younger, and the hard cap makes UFA deals extremely risky. Some above average players look completely cooked by 33.

Collins already knows who he wants. You don’t let Lou go without knowing that and going out into the ether.
especially if they already let Lou know during the season. They've been looking for weeks at least, someone has been tapped already.

I think it's interesting given that info that Dreger was so quick to point at Holland. I thiiiiiiiink we might be getting Ken Holland

The age and style of the person they bring in will likely indicate the path of the team. I for one am hoping it will be someone looking to retool, but in a more aggressive way than Lou, bringing in NHL ready youth and more speed. I have no interest in a full on rebuild.
And I cannot imagine these owners will want that. For a full rebuild you would have to trade Barzal, Horvat, Sorokin, Dobson and others. The days of 7,000 people at the Coliseum on a Tuesday night will be back. In a brand new four year old building and the gradual opening of all the shopping venues and Belmont Village, it would be a disaster for business.

Just wait until @periferal looks at his computer and realizes all the money he saved on his billboard!

I agree. There is no way, IMO, this ownership signs up for a full tear it down and rebuild. They will want to hire someone who convinces them they can retool quickly.

so why the f*** didn't we trade Palmieri lmao

I'm not defending the Palmieri decision because I don't agree with it either, but being informed before the end of the season doesn't mean he was informed of it before the deadline. It seems like maybe if the team made it to the playoffs Lamoriello would've stuck around, otherwise why let him make deals at the deadline at all?

I will always hold Lou in high regard for how he help to restore respect to our organization so quickly after being a laughing stock for almost 20 years. If he doesn’t get the job, Barry Trotts doesn’t return our phone calls and without him, we don’t have any of those magical moments that we all enjoyed a few years back. So for that, I’m eternally grateful for what he did here.

That said, it was absolutely time to make a change and I hope to hell when they do hire a new GM, he is allowed to pick his own coach if that’s what he wants to do. We can’t get a little bit pregnant here… If he loves Roy as a coach, that’s fine, but I don’t want him forced to swallow that as soon as he walks in the door. That would be a huge mistake.

Today was a terrific step in a new direction, but there’s still a hell of a lot of work to do…

I don't really care about the AHL success so long as the prospects coming from the AHL are contributing at the NHL level. Unfortunately, that hasn't been happening either. Too many 4th line grinders and not enough impact players have come from Bridgeport over the years.

I guess we could do worse but I’m not crazy about Hollond

Holland is gonna be 70 this year. If we hire him we can just recycle the old person jokes used during Lou's tenure.

In 2023 he joking said "At this stage of my life I don't invest in green bananas. Just not sure I'll be around long enough to see them ripen to be yellow." 2023 Holland press conf

Not sure that is what the Isles need at that stage....
