looking at capfriendly it seems LA is in cap hell, 11 forwards, 4 d and 1 goalie signed with 5 mil in cap space left? Am I missing something…

Yup, they got to make more moves now. Even if they go with a 22 man roster, that's 6 more players at an average of $750k each. I believe min salary is $775K now. Tight! If they get into IR injuries and have to call guys up, that chews into cap space more.

So yeah, I think they have to move someone out to create more cap

Funny how a guy who plays on the teams second and third lines - both here and in Minnesota - is somehow not a second line winger because of stats.

If he actually played on ANY teams first line this wouldn't be an issue. But he hasn't because he is a one man band who isn't compatible with play-making centers.

There is so much more to the game than stats. Shame so many of you miss it.
And yet somehow that so called second liner was second on the team in scoring despite missing 13 games.

There was a Jets fan a few weeks back that said that Chevy never lose a trade even when he has his back against the wall.

He was right.
Honestly the team that he built through the draft was pretty insane. Wish they had a guy like that in Edmonton, they'd be a dynasty right now.

This wasn't an overpay. They got a low end 1st line player for basically Villardi and a 2nd. I doubt Villardi is ever as good as Dubois alone. I don't know much about Kupari but he has underwhelming numbers for a former top 10 pick. Really is the 2nd round pick that might be an X factor in this stacked draft year. Also the Kings have Dubois signed for 8 years through his prime. The fact that Winnipeg didn't get a 1st round pick or blue chip prospect for this deal is pretty wild.

It looks like you weren't paying attention to the ask. Winnipeg wanted NHL players, not picks and prospects.

This deal brings three NHL forwards to the Jets (plus a pick, which is actually for next year). This will help the Jets who were hurting for forward depth.

Tidy business that Chevy accomplished.

This doesn't detract from what the Kings accomplished. Dubois will help them push further in the playoffs.

That was me.

I am always right.

The table turned when Dubois opened up to 5 or 6 teams. You're late to the salt party bud.

I can take it. You want us to crumble but we were mostly consistent with what Habs fans said all along. We were trying to use the potential leverage that he wanted to play for the Habs and it's a business. You would have done the same (I said this many times before). Things changed once he opened up to 5 or 6 teams and there was a report on that where he didn't want to really screw over the Jets by only wanting to play for the Habs. That's respectful to the Jets and I respect it even as a Habs fan.

So yeah, same thing as before. We were interested but not desperate. You and a bunch of others are just out for blood because we tried to use Dubois/Habs leverage. Like I said, it's business. No hard feelings. Hope you do well with what you got.

You and I had many many many posts bad and fourth to each other over the last year on PLD, in the end no hard feelings. Things worked out great for the Jets, depending how all players develop the Jets might even be a better team now then they were before the trade, but at worst they did amazing in this trade and far better then many people said they would. Chevy worked the media and all interested parties perfectly to get the value he got from LA especially considering PLD wasn't staying long term and only had one year left at most. I wonder if PLD really ever wanted to go to the Habs or not, or was he just using them to get a better deal from another team (LA), we will never know. He's a good player, wish LA good luck.

I was right on his contract, I said he would sign 8x8.25 to 8.5, which is basically the exact same deal as Suzuki got factoring in the extra UFA time and cap raising so its a fair deal IMO just like Suzuki contract is.

One thing you were right on which some of your fellow Habs fans didn't always support was PLD would of been great on the Habs, playing on the line with Suzuki/CC or creating a 1-2 punch of him & Suzuki as centers........either way he would of been a good combo for the Habs.

Good luck tonight at the draft, I hope you guys get your player.

Feel like Kings got rid of a bunch of depth for a better player. This will help them post-Kopitar and Dubois can play LW in the interim.

Jets got hosed IMO, reminds me of the Phaneuf trade.

Thank you for reaching out and commenting. I also thought he would get $8M - $8.5M range. I also said he would get lots of signing bonus structure and he got around $19.5M total over 8 years.

Very good return for the Jets. Glad it didn't come from the Habs but you got what you wanted in the end. I really do respect Dubois for opening up to 5/6 teams because I don't think he really wanted to screw over the Jets in the end by only saying the Habs. I respect Dubois for that and I think the Jets should too.

It's been a long year discussing this. Jets and Habs can move on now and we will be paying attention to how he does in LA.

Yeah. In the espn report they called him elite. He is a good all round player, but yet to even sniff a point per game season.

I think this is all about the looming increase in cap. In 4 years time, the previous $6.5M rate will be the new $8.5M rate. That kind of thing.

He's not as bad as some say he is and not as good as others think he is (LA). He's heading into his age 25 season so it's mature/prime years. How he does with points will depend on talent around him. This applies to so many players like him but lots of fans don't understand it.

I would've given up at least that much if I were in the Canes' shoes. Dubois's a great player. Kings are dealing from a position of strength to secure their post-Kopitar future.
He is very good and LA has plenty of assets, but as for the future....? This kid doesn't have the best track record, so who's to say he doesn't finally force a trade to Montreal.

I totally agree, but if things go well, he seems the type to sit out and demand a new contract and trade. Alexei Yashin comes to mind.

The team who get the best player win the trade most of the time. I just don’t get the hype around Iafallo and Kupari wich those kind of player are traded often without big value. Good move by LA

Praise the lord. Jesus is here

I forgive you and your fellow Hab fans for your heretical sins over the past year. For penance for these sins, Habs were compelled to overpay for Newhook.

I will leave you with one prophesy. The second round pick that Winnipeg received as part of the Dubois package, that was originally owned by Montreal and used in part to acquire Dvorak, will turn out to be an NHL star.

So sayeth Guffman!
