Calling Fiala a 2nd line player is nuts. Also there's a huge difference between signing a player to an 8 year deal when they're 25 and you're locking up their entire prime vs. when they're 29 or 30 and you're mostly paying for decline years.
No, not understanding that he played on the THIRD line most of the year then arguing that point is nuts.

Fiala was a 2nd/3rd liner in Minnesota and a 2nd/3rd liner here in LA - he was incompatible with Kopitar from day 1. Numbers don't tell you as much as you think they do, in fact, the best hockey played all year was without Fiala.

LA literally pulled off the HFBoards "here's a bunch of redundant pieces for your star" trade proposal turning Durzi, Vilardi, Kupari and Iafallo into PLD and are somehow getting criticized for it.
You consider PLD to be a star?

Damn, I'd like to hear how many "stars" you believe are in the league.

If Dubois right now is a 'star' then there's like 150 star players in the league

I guess Phil Kessel was a 3rd liner when he played on the Penguins third line too.

Fiala scored over a point per game this season, one of only 37 players in the entire league who did. You're completely out to lunch calling him a 2nd liner.

As a Jets fan I am pleased with this. PLD has the tools to be a force but its between his ears that is a huge problem and I am glad he is gone.

Also, I have learned in this process I really f***ing like the Kings fanbase. Very rational and dialled in fans. And for that reason I hope PLD lights it up and becomes you need him to be.

Dubois is going to flourish in LA. Drafted by Columbus, no choice. Traded to Winnipeg, no choice. Maybe passionate hockey markets, but common man. Obviously agreed to the contract, his choice. You guys always talk about the black hole, the players they gave up are a definition of a black hole. Top 3 2nd line in the NHL. TM just needs to go, good regular season coach, playoffs not his jam

I'm really not as down on this trade for LA as most people - and that contract is completely reasonable. If PLD wanted to sign in Winnipeg for 8.5x8, I'd have no hesitation at locking him up for those exact terms.

LOL Montreal went from having Dubois slam dunk, to Newhook who is busting quickly.

I'm also not convinced i would have targeted Vilardi as the main piece coming back. His injury history is very very worrisome.

Just a high ceiling play. Both teams are taking on a bit of risk in this trade. Jets get a potential injury risk top-sixer, and the Kings get a top-sixer who has a questionable mentality. Obviously PLD is a better player, and less of a risk, which is why the Kings had to add other pieces to make it equal.

I think it's pretty fair, although I am baffled that Winnipeg didn't add anything else, and LA seemed to add a second-rounder for the memes.

PLD is a great player when he is on, he just can't find that level consistently - and its not just about scoring goals/getting points, there are games where he just doesn't seem to even want to try.

Dubois outscored Meier, Svechnikov, DeBrincat and Scheifele last season all of whom most people would consider stars.

Leave the semantic argument aside. Bottom line, LA turned surplus assets that they can easily replace into a (low end) #1 center in his prime. They're trying to build a championship team, not hoard prospects like Pokemon.

After the crap you guys have gone through from Habs fans, the Kings fans seem like the best fans in the world.

This is very true and why I posted how exaggerated it is for people to say LA got royally hosed... I don't know if those people actually have watched Iaffallo and Kupari.

The negativity to the trade as a King's fan is that I believe Vilardi is just as talented as PLD and there's a high probability their offensive output is similar. The difference is Vilardi isn't a rumored headcase, a few years younger and won't cost $8 million a year, yet.

The point is that there was no competition. While I don't think much of any of the players the Jets got there was no need to give up that much unless they wanted to get rid of them . Vilardi and a 2nd should have done it. I see MB in this. Bidding against nobody AGAIN. A complete imbecile.
