As a Kings fan, I hope it works out. The only problem: what playoff contender would look to shore up their goaltending with Quick at this point. He’s a made man as far as I’m concerned but that doesn’t change the fact that: He hasn’t been good at all.
Yeah, I'm not expecting much either. The obvious ideal would have been for him to not have to leave LA at all. :(

Yet Columbus allegedly had the audacity to be offended when Sweeney accepted a much better return from Washington instead.

Sounds like Quick really wanted one last playoffs with LA before retiring. Second best option would be getting moved to a different playoff team with Columbus retaining for a pick.

Hopefully he can sign a 1 day deal or something with LA next year.

People like LA. People like Ohio.

One thing is for certain -- nobody in either place gives a f*** about your opinion.
Well good thing I was responding to someone else's opinion about it in the first place.... on a discussion board. If you don't care about people's opinion why are you on this forum?

Many of those stats are positive because they combine offensive and defensive components and the Kings outscore their problems. If you look at just the defensive components, they're closer to average: 15th in CA, 14th in SCA and 12th in HDCA. Sure, those are better than Columbus, but if you really want to argue that being a better defensive team than Columbus means being good at defense, we'll have to agree to disagree.

I'm sorry you should be using rates rather than counts here. Kings have 62GP, at the time of this writing only NYI has played more games (64GP). So if you mistakenly go by counts (which you did for some reason) the numbers you picked will skew higher because as of this writing LA's played more games than almost everyone in the league.

Anyway if you use rates (which is what you should have been using), Kings are pretty clearly a top 10 defensive team at least fancy stats-wise. 5v5 CA/60 is 9th (just ahead of Boston), SA/60 is 4th, SCA/60 is 11th (again, just ahead of Boston), HDCA/60 is 8th, just below Boston this time. xGA/60 is the catch-all stat I'd personally prefer to use (esp because I haven't seen many games), Kings are 7th in that, 2.45 is just under Boston who has 2.41. I chose 5v5 (rather tan ES) because 3v3 overtime tends to introduce noise, but the ES numbers / ranks are about the same. Anyway the stats are showing the Kings have been about as good as Boston defensively up until this point, that is not too bad and common sense-wise definitely better than league average.

But, this is all beside the point -- the argument you jumped in on is whether Joonas is likely to improve your goaltending. If I were curious about goalie performance, personally I would look at 5v5 xGA/60 (Kings are 7th at 2.45), then actual GA/60 (Kings are 22nd at 2.7, that is the lowest of any team in a playoff spot), that gap is most likely explained by bad goaltending which checks out with the team overall save percentage of under 0.8988 (3rd worst in the league). But I don't think anyone needed fancy stats to know that Kings' goaltending has been bad, you know? On the other hand, CBJ has been legitimately bad defensively, 5th worst in xGA/60 (2.86, worse than the Yotes!), Joonas has been a bright spot with a GSAA/60 of 0.42 at 5v5 which is good for 7th in the entire league (500 minute minimum), he's right between Sorokin and Saros who I think everyone would agree are pretty good goalies.

You tell me, if Joonas is putting together an above average season on one of the league's worst defensive teams, and if he goes to a top ten defensive team (or even an average defensive team) do you expect his performance to get worse or better? And even if for some reason he does perform slightly worse (very possible, goalies are weird), would you nonetheless expect him to be an improvement in goal for the Kings or not.

***

So yeah, whether or not the Kings are a good defensive team or an average defensive team (fancy stats seem to show Kings are a top 10 defensive team, but I haven't watched many games), would you expect Korpi to improve your goaltending, that's the main question. I strongly believe Korpi is likely to give you at least league average goaltending, if he does I think you have to be considered favorites or at least co-favorites to win your division and maybe go on a run given how wide open the West is this year. Which means to me giving up a 1st for him and Gavrikov seems like a good trade if you take away the sentiment of dealing Jonathan Quick.

That's just my 2 cents as a neutral fan (Zona). Lmk any questions or disagreements on anything written above

Definitely flies in the face of some of the asks for Gavrikov around here this season.

Good for LA.

Wow they did Quick dirty.

From Playoff bound, sunny LOS ANGELES .... To gritty, dark and depressing OHIO, and the worst team in the league at that.. With no warning.

That f***ing sucks. I wouldn't go. Pulling a Lindross. Straight up disrespect.
CBJ season ends in six weeks. He doesn’t even have to physically move. He can live out of a hotel in a fine, clean city until mid-April and then spend the rest of his life in LA/Connecticut with the tens of millions he’s made playing a sport.

It sucks for him that he (barring a flip) won’t get a final chance at a Cup / won’t get to officially retire only playing for one franchise. But stop acting like he has to go to a Siberian manual labor prison camp for the next 20 years.
