Brilliant move by Blake. Addresses the teams two glaring needs (LD & G), only sacrifices draft capital to do so, and reverse psychologies Quick into the Hall. 4D chess.

I hope Rob Blake loses his job for this.

A 1st and our franchise goaltender for two rentals gone in a month.

Very interested to see how this plays out.

IMO Columbus's goalies have been so overrated despite being mostly not very good for years. That said, Korpisalo is clearly having a strong season and who knows with goalies, maybe he's just good now.

3rd teams get 4th or 5th rounders
Do you think Quicks value is even that high after this season? We all remember what he was but what he is, is not a valuable piece.
Maybe a team will give a 5th while a 3rd team takes a 5th which is fine but it seems like a hard sell even for the veteran presence. Its not like hes a guy looking for his 1st Cup either. I hope it works out for him but I bet he either retires or has to ride it out in Columbus for the rest of the season

I wonder where Quick goes now? Because you have to think he never plays for Columbus

If the kings who are a playoff team are not interested in him, why would another team? He is done as an NHL player.

I see all these people on here feeling sorry for him and banging on the Kings and Boo hoo Quick didn't get a chance at one last playoff chance. Yes he did, yes he certainly did. His play showed this season that he is not worthy of that chance.

He had hip surgery which has changed everything. He is also capable of going on absolute heaters. You should have seen that in the bubble. Or Tampa fans with the following round where he set the saves made record and made that series look so much closer than it was

Quick is 2 different players in the RS and PS going to even last year. There is nothing to indicate Korpisalo is a better fit for the playoffs than him and Gavrikov is not some amazing 1D, just a more of a solid mid pairing puck sponge.

Team comraderie and morale is extremely important in any competitive team environment, from pro sports to the military to executive performers. Ignoring it for marginally better NHL2023 stats is incredibly naive and asinine and something you expect from a 14 year old with no life experience as part of a high performing team (or I guess Rob Blake who has always been an extremely me first player). Many teams have been sunk with tone deaf moves like this before.
Yes, I'm sure you have a lot of experience on high-performing teams. I'm sure high-performing teams all function perfectly when they have a specific weak link submarining the team. There is nothing to indicate that Quick is magically going to go from playing like an .880 goalie to suddenly being Actually Good just because the calendar changes months.

The Kings would quite comfortably be first in the West if they had even halfway competent goaltending. That's obviously on Quick (and Petersen and Copley).

Great trade for the Kings. Quick should be grateful they kept him around until year 10 of his contract even though they needed to move him years ago.

He has a .941 SV% in his 9 game playoff career. Seems relevant.

I'm surprised how salty Kings fans are at Blake for upgrading the team ahead of the playoffs. The West is wide open. And the Kings would easily be first in the West right now had they received some modicum of decent goaltending this season.

This team is not a contender.

Giving up a 1st rounder for two rentals that'll be gone in a months time and a first round exit is not worth it.

You’re not getting it. The kings have no chance at winning the cup this year, with or without this move. It’s been absolutely brutal watching Quick this year and has been it’s own torture and I frankly expect him to loose any game he starts.

This is not about winning games in a season you’re not ready to go all in.

This is about treating a franchise legend, who’s played his entire career and been SO loyal to the franchise, like a piece of trash. It’s a totally unnecessary move. Just staple his ass to the bench for another month and take the first or second round playoff loss in stride and improve over the off season. This signals to everyone in the locker room that nothing is holy.

After the perfection of the Brown retirement ceremony, this is the ugliest thing the franchise has ever done. Quick should have been able to retire with a modicum of dignity as a forever king. If you can’t understand this, there’s nothing more to talk about.
I agree with tour sentiment but I do feel like the Kings can get out of the West.

If the East beats the hell out of each other, I say who comes out of the West can win.
