You guys and your constant trade scenarios...

Unless something drastic happens soon in the standings we won't be able to improve much at the deadline. Too expensive. There are only about 7 teams out of it at this point. There will be way too many buyers to find anything doable.

I'm not sure that will be the case. In the Pacific I only see the Kings as buyers... there'll be 2 other teams that make the playoffs out of the Pacific, but I can't see their GM's thinking they really have a shot and are going to be spending draft picks.

Out East, I don't think teams like NJ/Ott/Det/TB are really going to be all that active for one reason or another... rebuilding/budge team/down slope/WTF?

Add to that the cap situation... any team trading for a guy like Buff is going to have a hard time coming up with the money he wants. Florida's about the only playoff team that might have the cap space next year, but they may be a budget team with a lot of guys to sign soon. So any team looking to trade for Buff is likely letting him walk.... This could really hurt the price of rentals if the teams know they can't sign them the next year.

You are kidding right? That's one of the fastest ways to the unemployment line. If they're anywhere near a spot they will be in the bidding to improve. The teams already in are always looking to improve as well.

I also say no to trading Pearson.

He's young, fast, has skill and is on a good contract. On a cap team that means a lot. He's a team guy. Plus as others pointed out, there are too many buyers at this point.

Maybe near the deadline there will be fewer buyers and thus more sellers as teams fall out of contention.

when someone mentioned "grease", this is an attribute that JUSTIN WILLIAMS brought to the kings,
I definitely see some of Pearson's game that mimic's JW. Maybe he can be our new MR GAME 7.

Kings at +20, the second play team in our division is at -14 (PHX). Closest team to us in goal differential (SJS) is 22 goals behind us. Everyone else is 35 goals - goals against behind us...

Were not only winning were earning den wins.

There's bidding on a UFA rental for the playoffs to improve that playoffs vs building for the future. I would absolutly love the Sharks/Ducks/Van (whoever makes the playoffs in the Pacific) to blow a bunch of draft picks/assets on rentals at the deadline because they suck and it won't matter. They will probably keep those assets and try and improve in the future vs now.

Sharks and Ducks can't afford to wait. Bidding and getting are two different things. Unless more sellers show up prices will be quite high. Moreover, this is a league-wide thing, not just the division.

I'm glad Dean didn't sign him to that bloated contract with a NMC.

It was a good try by DL to try and fill a hole for a playoff run, but it didn't work out. Cut your losses and move on.

I can't recall where or who it was, but I remember reading an interview about a month ago with a GM in the NHL where he said the same thing. I'm paraphrasing from memory but it boiled down to;
"I've been trying to make a trade to improve my team but with the cap uncertainty there is no market right now. Any team close to the cap is nervous about taking salary and teams that are normally sellers are overvaluing assets and stockpiling in case the cap comes down."

Trading Face Wash for Trollposo was the best trade this forum ever made.

I don't think we can judge this trade until we see if Face Wash can win a cup for the NYI.

BTW, he can win 5 cups for the NYI and I am still not paying him $80M.

If they had re-signed Sekera, I would have been okay with the trade. But yeah, losing a first and a good prospect for a quarter season of mediocrity was maddening.

I think the best case scenario would have been to get Sekera at a reasonable cap hit and then look at moving Martinez for a 3C, but that kind of idea wasn't possible, because Sekera wanted the big bucks over playing for a contender.

I think we would be surprised by the number of players in the NHL that don't really care if they win a Stanley Cup or not.

I agree. I definitely don't think Sekera should have been signed at any cost. But the return for the investment is looking pretty bad.

Although when the Kings win the cup in 2016 and Carolina picks 30th overall, it will be easier to stomach :yo:

Money talks, always has, always will. Not one of the Kings core has taken a home town discount. Brown on his second contract, was the last NHL player I can remember that gave his team a (true) discount.

Yeah, possibly a lot more than I would have thought possible. Another vetting point item that should have been on Dean's list in regard to Sekera (if it wasn't already). Pisses me off, but what's done is done. Hope that a-hole enjoys his money in the cellar of the Pathetic.
