Oy vey. When's the last time this team was serious about the regular season and not just waking up down the stretch?

I think it was 2014 that they were in the playoffs with like 2 1/2 weeks to go, but other than that I dont ever remember a time. 2010 was kinda decent points wise

From Rosen, emphasis mine:

"Dating back to the road trip opener in Philadelphia on November 17, the Kings played 15 of 20 games on the road and finished the stretch with a 13-5-2 record. That’s excellent. Their reward? Getting right back to work for a Friday practice in advance of an afternoon game against Philadelphia on Saturday. There are 14 games between now and when the team leaves on its February Grammy Trip, and of those 14 games, 11 are in the Pacific Time Zone and three are in the Mountain Time Zone (two of which are in Glendale, Arizona). Nine of the next 14 will be at home, so the team will be tasked in maintaining its wide lead atop the division."

Great work done, but key stretch coming up.

It'd be easy to be nervous about peaking early, but this is a two-time champ winning team. They understand the importance of the 2nd half of the season and coming into the playoffs with momentum. I think they're more prepared than we may be giving them credit for.

Agree. A very motivated group, as opposed to peaking early, is what you can get after 3 straight trips to the WCF or beyond, then not making the playoffs and having that long summer.

One again I ask where does Clifford fit in when he's healthy??? I don't see him taking Mersch's spot and Nolan is playing pretty good hockey.
Once again i will suggest that when clifford gets healthy look for one of king pearson Clifford to be traded opening a spot for mersch to stay. It maybe in a package for a defenseman however i hope for a veteran 3c

Will never understand why anyone thinks Pearson is the one to be moved. He brings a far different and important dynamic than the others and has demonstrated chemistry with much of the roster. Unless the org thinks they can't afford him or something and he goes in a BIG deal

Pearson is not being traded, obviously, unless it's in a big package deal like Brad said. He is certainly not being traded to open a spot for a lesser player in Mersch. I love what Mersch brings, and I think he's going to succeed, but Pearson can make things happen on his own.

It's very possible that Clifford is out until after the trade deadline, so it's not much of a concern anyways. He hasn't skated in nearly a month, which is an ominous sign with concussions. I have genuine worry for the guy, he's got a young family. If there's one guy who I don't want to see as a statistic, it's Cliffy.

Pearson and a pick could land a pretty solid top four defenseman, but he's only 23. I hate the idea of trading a kid that was developed by the Kings, has already played a big role, and has established great chemistry. His injury last season is somewhat of a blessing in disguise. He was gonna have a monster season. It saved the Kings a bunch of $$$. He would've hit 20 goals (probably close to 25). The Kings also probably would have made the playoffs if he didn't get injured. I consider him a big asset for the top 6 going forward.

I guess that's the question. If you can trade Pearson for a 2nd pairing D... ?

Then our top six suddenly looks pretty vulnerable especially with Lucic UFA, Mersch having not proved himself, Gaborik aging, Brown aging...etc.

I guess I just don't see our top sixers as expendable at this point. I love guys like Byfuglien/Shattenkirk but that would open up another substantial hole, even if it did make our defense Doughty-Muzzin/Shattenkirk-McNabb/Martinez- etc

No worries about our left side with King in the lineup ;)

hes is the only one that has the ability to get what we need. I think King is more trusted then pearson and will end up playing more mins like he has for the last two season. If hf board is any indication to value your not getting the upgrade at even 3 c for clifford or king. Pearson is also coming up for a huge pay raise. As long as lucic is resigned I would be ok trading Pearson as long as return is worth while .

very well put and i totally agree with everything your saying

Pearson has something very few Kings have -- speed. Outside of Lewis and Carter, Pearson is the only one else with wheels in the Top 9.

(I maintain Gaborik is slowing down)

This. The notion of even considering moving him is stupid. you don't create a hole in the top 6 to shore up a position that isn't all that weak in the first place.

Unless something drastic happens soon in the standings we won't be able to improve much at the deadline. Too expensive. There are only about 7 teams out of it at this point. There will be way too many buyers to find anything doable.

I have no concerns with this roster. The defense is phenomenal as usual, the offense is loaded (Gaborik will be a huge difference maker in the playoffs), and we have the best goalie in the league between the pipes.

The best system goalie*
