After this game, I hope people don't place Schenn in the same light as Scuderi/Mcnabb/Mcbain.

He's gotten a little better each game IMO. He played 23 minutes last night. We have to remember this is the first time in his NHL career that he's actually been in a good environment to develop.

I love the hitting and ferociousness he brings. I hope he's resigned on a cheap deal, and we're able to use him in his proper role as a 5/6 guy.

He had 10 hits last night. No other Kings defenseman had more than 4.

Makes me wonder how good he could be atm if Toronto and then Philly hadn't gotten their hands on him. He should have never gone to the NHL so soon, should have gotten some AHL time and grown into the role.

Great stuff here Jason:

Two selling stats...

One, possession tilted in the Kings favor as the game wore on, mainly because they were hitting and didn't let up. Wore the Sharks down.

"... the Kings outhit the Sharks 61-39 while maintaining manageable possession numbers (Meaning they weren't just hitting because they did not have the puck.)"

That's Kings hockey - also winning hockey, so hopefully the guys build on that.

100 hits, that's brutal! i guess it's all about endurance now. i see two main scenarios:
- sharks win 4-1
- kings win with any other result.

it's a rainbow of possibilities in between, of course, but it's seems like a u-shaped curve, if you put results progressively on one axis and probabilities for those on the other. kings are simply bigger and stronger.

Yep, the deeper the series goes, the better the odds for the Kings.

I know that's a 'duh' mathematically with the Sharks' lead, but I mean the pounding game is already starting to pay off. Rosen references the King quote in his blog today, something to the effect of over the course of a series, you keep hitting a dude, and he's going to want to hold the puck less. Well, we're starting to see that.

I still stand by what I said last night that Thornton Burns Hertl are big and smart enough, and pavelski smart and elusive enough, that the above doesn't necessarily apply the same to them, but it's clear the rest of the Sharks are more tentative now. Neutralize the big guns and keep running over the Sharks depth and we'll start really rolling.

If we win the next game, I start to feel we win the series.

been a while since i have been on here.

Was good to see Brown hitting last night..needs to be careful. Definitely got away with at least one interference penalty. he needs to play on the line though. Quick looked better last night as the game went along. I like how the coaches shortened the kings D (McBain < 6 min!!). Considering he is getting played less than 6 minutes if A-Mart cannot go I would like to Gravel in there.

I think whomever wins game 4 wins the series.

I like Schenn when he's decisive, even if it's a bad play. I can accept an icing from being aggressive--I can't accept it when he's held the puck for 7 seconds then misses everyone. I can handle him even getting burned if it's in the name of he throws a big hit--I can't handle it when it's because he's scared to leave the front of the net.

When he's moving his hands and feet and making decisions, they're surprisingly good decisions. When he thinks? I'm wondering if that's where the Toronto and Philly come in--too many options for a guy with relatively limited hockey IQ is a death sentence. Keep the game simple, and he's effective.

Still don't have faith him and still think he's no better than a #6 right this moment, maybe we re-sign him and develop him over the summer, but I have no faith that Schenn can be anything but a bottom pairing d-man on a true contender, not for any length of time. Nice bandaid when he's at the top of his game but it's pretty clear this is less than ideal (like Jeff Schultz coming in last year--admirable, but cant rely on it).

Still much prefer old model Matt Greene next year, but who knows how he'll look at this point.

Yeah Schenn had a really good game, he must be incredibly strong, he's able to knock people down with just a little shove of his arms. And he blocked another shot that could have easily gone in, been liking his play lately. But Scuderi, gosh, he cannot skate, and does not make great passes all that much, please put Gravel in Sutter.

Looks like Carter maybe

yes, that's the essence of lak's strategy, it's more visible now, like with schenn getting big minutes. jigsaw puzzles slowly falling right where they belong.

If we win the next game, I start to feel we win the series.

2-2 would be tectonic. but imo lak will have a chance even after 1-3. in this case if they win game five it will become both mental and physical for sharks. i hope they'll avoid this scenario though...

Not going to lie to myself, Sharks was still the better team last night. At least, they got the puck to the net, they just couldn't get on the rebounds, Quick had to make some big saves.

All the Kings did was shooting the puck wide, I get it that Jones is a tall goalie, but I expect him to give up some softies, he looks shaky.

Depending on the game I put Schenn and McNabb in the same light. Definately not Scuderi or McBain.

I think McNabb got benched last night after he looked out of place the first half of period 1. Could see him and Schenn's ice time being reversed in future games. Schenn has had more time as a pro too, so his game should be ahead of McNabb's.

they were better for 2/3rd of the game. but LA looked to regain some of their game and dominate at times too.

Schenn could be a beauty if he just made better decisions with the puck, he always seems tentative with it. Christ I hope Martinez can make it back somehow.

Going through a training camp with the kings and coaching staff could help him make quicker decisions with the puck. Sign him for cheap and I'm okay with him.

I imagine he will get better offers elsewhere around the league. he is a RHD that holds more value than his current skill level.

Would love it if LA was able sign him cheap. Even a 1 year show me type deal.

Obviously real happy to get the win, but man oh man the first 8 minutes were ugly. Very, very lucky to get to the first PP only down one. And whichever Shark took the trip on Scuderi soon after that needs to give their head a shake.

Vinny was buzzing all game, especially in OT. Even on the winner, Jones had to respect the potential for a pass across to him.

How about Dwight King's awsome production? Last 22 games: 0g, 1a, 1pt with around 15 minutes of play per game. And Sutter puts him on the first line with Kopitar :shakehead

Damn that's brutal. I don't know why the **** Andrehoff still isn't playing while King puts up numbers like these.

That's brutal. He came back pretty strong from the broken foot. Had a handful of goals in the first bunch of games, but wow, that's like Ivanans levels of production (with triple the TOI).

Was surprised to hear that Kopitar's goal was his first in his last 15 playoff games.

Even more surprising that the Kings beat Chicago (and New York) without a single Kopitar goal. Carter's line was so, so dominant in that Chicago series.

I agree...Did not understand King with Kopitar one bit My wife said maybe Sutter picked the lines alphabetically.

Because King is a better player. This is the playoffs and its a game of who makes the least mistakes. Even when AA was on fire during the end of the regular season, Sutter noted during an interview that his defensive ability was questionable. We saw that in game 1. King, unlike AA, is able to get in deep in the offensive zone and cycle the puck. He is also better defensively, which is critical considering our defense is in shambles.
