Lafreniere has not proven to be capable of producing like a top 6 forward yet.
I reject that false narrative. He is good enuf to play top 6, and obv, Kreider and bread are blocking him.
mgmt has to decide
- LaF w/Trochek and righty shot bread moving to RW (kreider-zib-Kakko = 1st line)
- or Krav to that line at RW, Panarin LW, they both speak Russian, get Krav going

in which case LaF has to go 3rd line LW w/Chytil at pivot

but that is NOT a downer on LaF

they traded romanov and the first they got for him. can't you count? :sarcasm:
First off. Romanov was a 2nd round pick. Not a first.

Secondly. You can’t count both transactions as what you paid for Dach. They didn’t pay Romanov AND a 1st for Dach. They got a 1st for Romanov and used that to trade for Dach.

So if you want to break it down to the basics. They paid a 2nd (Romanov) 3rd and 4th for Dach. Nowhere near 2 1sts.

He's not producing like a top 6 player despite playing with Panarin. Dach is.

Unless Rangers are okay with vets I can't see there being a trade. Dach/Suzuki/Caufield/Slafkovsky are likely untouchable. Granted a top 6 of:

On paper though, it would be really fun to have:

Lafreniere - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - top 5 pick 2023 - Dach

I was thinking like Monahan at 50% + either Roy or Kidney or Barron or Farrell for Lafrenière + Cap Dump as a basis.
Those 4 are blue chips prospects and Rangers could have a solid depth center on the cheap side that could help this seadon for a lottery ticket and cap relief

IMO I see Lafrenière as a reclamation project but if the narrative is that Lafrenière is somehow in Slaf's tier, first of all, you're absolutly crazy, and second of all, there's no trade to be made

....This is absolutly crazy
Let's get real.
You want something for close to nothing
You are attempting a false narrative, which I am repudiating.

It is FACTUALLY true LaF skating, which early on, not now, was legitimate concern he MAYBE could be on path to bust territory, finally started to get to min NHL level mid-end last season. His skating has NOT regressed. It is improving going forward. I wouldn't quite say the sky is the limit yet given how hyped he was, but I would say the future is very, very bright.
Deniers of this reality need to bend, buckle and break to the correct realization that while some significant level of subjectivity remains in our collective assessments, that his skating is appreciably improved is objective, not subjective. We saw the same thing when LeoDrai got here. Most of 1st season a disaster, then he got his skating worked out and voila! LeoDrai IS generational, better than LaF, but parallel here is apt.

Again, your wrong
Agreed. Somebody earlier said Lafreniere and 2023 NYR 1ST for Slafkovsky, which I don't like, but makes a lot more sense by comparison to Lafreniere for Slafkovsky straight up.

I would hate Laf +1st for Slaf but that Bernmeister dude is out of lunch with this 1vs1 trade lol

Slaf is already en route to have a better year than any by Lafrenière

is this your first time exposed to a bern proposal?

normally it includes the swap of two 4th round picks for two 2nd round picks.

Unless Rangers are okay with vets I can't see there being a trade. Dach/Suzuki/Caufield/Slafkovsky are likely untouchable. Granted a top 6 of:

On paper though, it would be really fun to have:

Lafreniere - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - top 5 pick 2023 - Dach
taking on vets is DOA instant, unreserved NO
we have a nice 5-ish yr window, and losing youth which = lower salaries = greater short term cap flexibility is a NO as it only shortens our window in misquided fallacy that win now splurge = cup, which it does not.
win now fails 99% of the time and LA Rams only team that got away with it last year, and even then, only b'c 49ers were too stupid to play backup QB over an obv injured starter

All true, but what the Habs would be willing to offer would not interest the Rangers.
I bet there is a deal that would be pretty good for both sides but The Rangers/Rangers fans would have to accept that he just isn't the #1 overall type level of value. I dont see that happening

The talk of Slaf or Caufield is just silly, laughable nonsense.....

Probably the Rangers best/Most consistent forward in a high pace intense playoff hockey last year but sure let's get rid of him for nothing.

You said the Rangers would consider this offer? They would say yes immediately. Trading a 21 year old defenseman who played 20+ minutes a game against the opponent top line for struggling forward? You do the trade and laughing. People put too much valuation about the 1st overall tag. I would not even consider Beck for Laf because I am certain Beck will be better than Laf in 2/3 year. Habs had a lot of good prospects. They just need to be patient. There is no need to sell the farm for Laf because he was Francophone. They did it with Drouin and get burn badly. Don't do the same mistake twice.
Yes people will overvalue him because he was drafted 1st, but he's not struggling as much as you say. He plays on a playoff team that's deep on the wings.

That being said, when given ice time with top forwards he didn't do anything special.

I wouldn't trade Guhle or Slaf for him, but Beck would be a no brainer.

Rangers fans would murder their GM if he took that offer. How bout an offer that allows him to live?

You may see him as a reclamation project but the organization doesn’t.

A base around Monahan is pure horse shit. Please, don’t ever create another proposal involving the Rangers. It’s embarrassingly bad and you should be ashamed.

It is exactly the opposite.
Habs have to recognize it is a crapshoot dealing LaF for Slaf 1:1, which NY considers only b'c of the 2 extra elc yrs

MON can try and be an ostrich w/head in the sand and pretend LaF skating, which is a HUGE variable in this equation, is not sufficient and continuing to improve. But that won't work.
What I said IS the truth, and truth ultimately prevails.

The hype said of LaF just prior to his drafting is an incredibly high bar to reach, but even if he is short, he is now solid 1OA talent.
Slaf is not a slouch but other than skating, he is not cut and dried better than LaF, and only 2 elcs is what makes NY consider if there are no other pieces.

Never going to happen. Lafreniere has some value but is not playing well. Whereas the valuable players in Montreal are all playing amazing right now and the tradeable players suck.

For this to work, there needs a similar high pick player with potential that’s underperforming as return, Montreal is a bad fit.

And Idk if anyone is considering 1:1 for Slafkofsky, but there’s enough people that would freak out in Montreal that I would be worried for Gorton’s health and well-being if it happened.

Let's be real here, aside from a few posters who may be serious, the "We want Slaf" talk is basically just confirming that we aren't interested in trading Laf. Most of us don't actually think Montreal is going to trade us a recent #1 for a player in his 3rd year, looking nearly the same as his first year. With that said, what's being offered isn't really helping us so I don't think it makes any sense. We're not cashing in on a #1 overall, but we're also not selling him for peanuts, or for prospects who won't be in the line-up / don't fill a big position of need.

We're not really trying to get Slaf. Settle down.

A good trade would be something like Laine vs Dubois. 2 top picks that need a new start elsewhere.

The gold standard would be Zibanejad vs some other guy.
Edit: that other guy was Derick Brassard.
