Feel free to crap on Slav as a player and at what slot he was picked. Based youth and current talent alone, his ceiling is arguably higher than Laf’s.
Laf is far from a bust but he’s in the running for worst #1 overall pick in the last 10 years. If you factor in the hype he received predraft as a generational player then he’s a clear winner of the worst #1 OA contest.
It is not being challenged that Slaf was 1OA.
The pt is everyone thought it was gonna be the C I think SEA took or the D I think Jersey took. Slaf was like 3rd or 4th mentioned, whereas LaF was consensus 1OA by a wide headcount.
It is to Slaf's credit he earned 1OA honors.
As to LaF, he was hyped that much for a reason.
The media and others driving this ranking didn't just business as usual say this is our 1OA.
They said this guy is the REAL deal.
My pt is even if this is off somewhat, it is still a projection that, in a vacuum, this guy is assessed to have at least ballpark that level of talent.
I think theres a realistic chnace the Rangers trade one of Laf/Kakko/Kravtsov (i think more Laf or Kravtsov since, by all accounts, Kakko is starting to use his big frame effectively).
But, I think if they do, it will be for a rental that will help them in the playoffs. I heard the Hawks are in a rebuild and that Patrick Kane might be available at the TDL
We are NOT giving up youth for vet rental. We are keeping our window open for as long as possible.
Win now 99% of the time = epic fail.
Youth for youth may work, esp if it helps us get cap space as a bridge until Trouba or bread cap can be repurposed
