Was anyone here ever comfortable with MacDermid in the lineup heading into the playoffs?

Tonight is a prime example why this team could use an upgrade on the blueline. They can't rely on the same handful of guys to play half a game.

Well Kings will be adding a very good center hopefully in Feb.
Need to still find a veteran D man though, Mike Green paired with Marty help things out?
the fact that carter is out is very underappreciated. i'm guilty of forgetting at some points too

we have to realize though, this is still the #1 defense in the league and has been one of the best all season. no GM is gonna break it up. gotta work with what we've got.

They took a step in the right direction tonight. The Flames have a shot at finishing 3rd in the Pacific Division, or getting a wild card spot.

They have a ways to go before they start getting there, and they don't get to play the Kings every game. Take out the wins against the Kings, and they have an 86 point record over 82 games, with 4 more losses than wins in regulation.

Carter coming back will be a godsend. That's a friggin good forward group.

If they don't get a d-man soon it might get ugly. Just look at the statline from tonight. Drew Doughty tonight was a 49.06 CF% tonight--and that was good for an absurd 22.13 relative to team. Only his regular partner was a positive--and at one relative to team. 50% HDCF% relative! Insanity. Everyone else was dead weight or worse. And that's before you even look at this.

SOMEONE has to pick up some slack if this team is going to do anything. If Doughty and Kopitar can have nights like they did and we STILL lose, that's a problem.

Even looking at it again, Quicks helmet is at the height of the crossbar, the guy who scored stick is above it the entire time even before making contact. He has to jump up to hit the puck out of the air.

Steven should've gotten video help from the team and challenged it being hitting with a high stick, not if it was knocked in with a glove.
don't think stevens has any say in that. i think the legality of it is determined by toronto and the coach can only challenge goalie interference or offsides. we have to trust that toronto looked at the possibility of it being a high stick, which i personally don't think happened.

I started assuming no reviews are going our way a long time ago and it's made it a lot easier to stomach. If it goes in the net, Quick could be in the first row of the stands and it would be a goal.

gotta love the situation room blog just says "yeah it entered in a legal fashion"

why even bother

We have a weirdly similar record to the Sharks, just for once we score more goals than them and have 3 more wins, but they have 3 games in hand.

LV, 11-1, 22pts, .917
Edm, 6-2-0, 12pts, .750
SJ, 8-2-3, 19pts, .731
Ana, 6-3-5, 17pts, .607
Cal, 7-5-1, 15pts, .577
LA, 5-5-3, 13pts, .500
Van, 4-8-1, 9pts, .346
Ari, 1-6-3, 5pts, .250

3 of 6 possible points against the Canucks and Coyotes. Home loss to Vancouver, giving up a multi-goal lead, and a loss period to the Coyotes.

Yeah, .500 hockey against the Pacific Division isn't going to cut it.

Ok last night sucked
But
6 th best record in the NHL by percent of points
4th best by actual points
4 best by goals against
Goal Diff + 28 second best in league
12th goals for (only shut out once)
PK is best in league
Pp don’t look here (22)
4th best ROW
Kopitar/ Toffoli in top 20goals
And Dustin Brown’s play has been slightly better than recent years
53 points at the halfway point
For a team that was supposed to be on the bubble for the playoffs, there are some good things to say
So far.

It's like Schenn in 2016 and Richards in 2014, just has issues keeping up with the pace of the game.

I'd say it's an even worse situation given the lack of experience from MacDermid, who isn't playoff tested, and also appears to be playing at a pace that is considerably slower than everyone else on the ice.

I don't mind him as a reinforcement who fills in for spot duty every now and then, but having a defenseman the coaching staff can't trust to play 3rd period minutes hurts the team more than anything.

You look at how the blueline got dinged up in 2014 and the Kings were still able to survive when the likes of Mitchell and Regehr missed games and Greene and Schultz were their reinforcements. MacDermid isn't even at their level, yet.

And Fantenberg, as much as I like his offense, makes too many ill advised mistakes.

The blueline depth will need to be addressed at some point.

Calgary's top players were the ones doing the physical work in the second period. And the Kings core players had no answer. Guys like Clifford, Andreoff, and MacDermid hardly played. So i don't blame MacDermid for making an mistake, let him play a regular shift with the same partner. He'll get better.

and still the 3rd and 4th lines went -9 on the night and fueled the momentum some in the second period getting trapped on the ice
