I feel like people aren't understanding the situation.

PLD is an RFA who we KNOW will not sign in WPG. He's a player with a career high of 63 points and he's rumored to only be willing to sign at a VERY limited number of destinations (from what we've heard the list is as small as 2-3 teams). We also know that the only destination he'd be interested in signing long term would be Montreal, but he's open to signing a short term deal with another team that then walks him to free agency.

No team in their right mind is going to offer premium assets just to sign him to a 1-2 year $6-8 million deal. Montreal has absolutely no reason to offer premium assets as they can either get him now (via trade or free agency if WPG REALLY fumbles the situation) or can wait 1-2 years and then get him for free in free agency.

The only way one of Byfield/Vilardi/Kaliyev (excluding Clarke because I'm like 99.9% sure he's untouchable - which he should be) should be even remotely on the table is if Hellebuyck is included. Full stop.

The Kings have other assets they can use to get this deal done and everyone knows that. Durzi has good value, throw him in there. Turcotte doesn't have a ton of value but as a previous top 5 pick he could be added as a sweetener and it's not crazy to think a team in WPG's situation would be interested in taking a flier on him. A guy like Iafallo or Arvidsson (don't see them trading Moore tbh) also has good value and I'm sure WPG would be interested, especially if they aren't wanting to rebuild but even if they are there's still value there - they can flip those guys for picks/prospects if they want. Kings also have picks they can throw in as sweeteners.

Even a package of Iafallo, Durzi, Turcotte, and a 3rd round pick is a serious overpayment for PLD, given the situation. The Kings will either acquire him for a package somewhat along those lines or they won't acquire him at all.

Seriously, this is where I'm at, too. Use any non-Clarke prospect (this includes Byfield) available for a few clear-cut short-term roster upgrades (don't trade any 1sts past 2025 - they're gonna' need 'em), pray the wheels don't fall completely off Kopitar and Doughty, and just hope they can luck & will themselves to a Cup the next 2 seasons. It probably won't work, and the rest of this decade will almost certainly SUCK, but predicting what the new GM will do at the draft will be fun, right??

Yup which is why I’m cool with Byfield being available for Tom Wilson or PLD. By the time Byfield looks like a good player and MAYBE becomes one the Kings will already be rebuilding in 2-3 years which makes byfield a pointless asset worth waiting on.

Bring on Tom.

Maybe you’re hitting the bong a little too much because if you think Iafallo, third liner, Durzi defensive nightmare, Turcotte a bust, and third is too much for PLD then you’re are dreaming. Because if that was what it’d take then you bet your ass Blake would personally be driving them all to the airport as we speak.

Also, you want the Kings to be getting PLD when they’re going to be rebuilding again? They’d flip him instead.

Maybe you haven’t gotten the message yet but the Kings are fully committed to going all in and any asset that’s an upgrade is going to be considered. If byfield for Tom Wilson is on the table then Blake would easily pull the trigger. Tom Wilson is a complete rarity that will immediately change the complexion of the Kings. Byfield is a wait and see. Kings clearly aren’t interested in waiting.

I mean I just flat out disagree with so many of your hockey opinions that I'm not going to waste my time arguing.

We'll see what the trade package for Dubois ends up being. Maybe you're right, maybe I'm right. We'll also see about Byfield and some other LA prospects.

I agree the Kings clearly aren't interested in waiting... But they can make aggressive moves without sacrificing too much of the future - particularly top prospects who they've already invested time into and are still improving. Clearly you don't see Byfield as part of the future, so you're OK with trading him... I disagree and think trading him now would be a massive mistake.

Time will tell

If the Kings believe PLD can be their 1/2C of the future then Vilardi+Durzi is a fair price to pay IMO. RFA for RFA.

Even when Trouba would only go to NYR, the Jets still got a 1st and a quality young defensemen for him.

With these types of situations, opposing GM's usually try to the make the deal somewhat reasonable for one another.

Also, Iafallo has good value? Connor Garland can't even be given away for free.

That's why I suggested Turcotte. He's a long shot at this point, but allows the Jets to save face. Don't think Dubois pulls a Dach or Vilardi level prospect with his trade request.

Jets GM has also talked about competing now & wanting players back & not futures.

Comes down to Luc talking PLD into LA. That shouldn't be a hard sell.

Wilson, would love to bring him in. The difference with PLD is that PLD is much more likely to be moved this summer without a massive overpayment.

PLD's points have been somewhat low, topping out in the low 60's. He would still be a massive upgrade pushing Lizotte to 4C.
Fiala, Lizotte, Vilardi
Vs
Fiala, PLD, Vilardi

Still low probability, but King's are a playoff team that can scrounge together the cap to sign him long term & has assets to give up.

Wouldn't mind Wilson but just saw he has 1 year left on his contract. Wouldn't give up much for him and also doubt I'd give him 5x$30M or whatever he wants.

Maybe you should stop being wrong so often.

Make “aggressive moves without sacrificing” boy oh boy. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice good assets then you’re not making aggressive moves. Kings gave up only a 5th and got MacEwen. Do you qualify that as an aggressive move because they didn’t lose much?

You’re clearly out of touch if you want the Kings to make aggressive moves but Iafallo, Durzi and a third is too steep for you. Lmao.

Dubois and Stanley for Roy,Bjornfot,Fagemo,Lias,Iafallo,Moore,Lizotte and JAD

This is unrealistic, but… who plays for LA next year?

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Vilardi
Kaliyev - Danault - Arvidsson
Grundstrom - Turcotte - Kupari

Stanley - Doughty
Anderson - Clarke
Gavrikov - Spence

Does Iafallo+Durzi+Kaliyev+ pick for PLD get it done? A lot of people are saying Vilardi but I would think Kaliyev is the odd man out. I just can't find a place for him here long term, the only center I could see him working with is Byfield and who knows when he'll actually play center.

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe
Fiala-Dubois-Vilardi
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Lucic?-Lizotte-Kupari

Would be a super nice forward crop

I like that line up and in a year or two add Chromiak and Simontaival and maybe Laferriere

How can you possibly say I'm wrong 'so often' when my take on PLD is that I don't think it's going to / should take that much to acquire him (TBD if I'm wrong or not)????? And.. that if any team does trade premium assets for him, I think that's a mistake given the situation.

My other main take on these boards has been that I still believe that some Kings prospects (like Byfield and Kaliyev) could end up panning out and think we should give them a little more time to do so. That is also still very much TBD at this point.

Look man, if you disagree with a post/opinion of mine that's fine but don't come at me talking down and trying to pretend like you know FOR SURE you're right. That's not cool.

Also, fwiw.... I said "make aggressive moves without sacrificing TOO MUCH" - I understand you have to give to get. But if the Kings are smart I think they can do that while also holding on to premium future assets like Byfield - ESPECIALLY if trading for Dubois, a 2C if you're thinking about winning anything. Look, if they want to give up a Byfield level asset (+ more assets obviously) for a true superstar 1C (like Mathews), I'm not opposed. But to give up an asset like that for a player like PLD who's also asking for $8-9 million AAV..... That seems VERY questionable to me, so I think the Kings should low ball and walk away if the price gets too high.

ALSO, fwiw (again), Iafallo, Durzi, and a 3rd is not too steep of a price for me when it comes to PLD. You seem to think that's nowhere near enough to get the trade done, and hell, you might be right (woah, do you see what I did there??? Acknowledged that someone else besides myself could potentially be right. Crazy concept.)... But I think it'd be a mistake to pay much more than that to then also overpay contract-wise for PLD.

Maybe you haven’t gotten the message yet but the Kings are fully committed to going all in and any asset that’s an upgrade is going to be considered. Yes, obviously the Kings are clearly looking to be aggressive right now, but that doesn't mean Blake would 100% trade Byfield for any kind of an upgrade???? Like what??? How are you jumping to that conclusion??? There's pretty much obviously a middle ground and we pretty much obviously don't know what Blake is / isn't OK with offering for certain players??? The bold part.... How can you POSSIBLY claim to know that??!?!??!?!?

It's possible to be aggressive and add to this team while not giving up Byfield, Vilardi, Clarke. And sure, it's also possible 1 of those 3 does end up getting moved for a big name. But IMO, and probably in Blake's opinion too, it would need to be a BIG name to justify including one of those guys.

This is a solid point. @Sol should take notes on how to have a hockey conversation.

I do think Iafallo would have more value than Garland because he's pretty excellent defensively and is a player that consistently elevates the play of his linemates. But could be wrong there.

Ultimately, I just don't think the Kings should give up much to acquire PLD when he's asking for $8-9 million and is going to want to walk himself to Montreal after a year or two.

PLD would almost certainly be a 1-2 year rental for the Kings or any other team that's not the Canadiens. So if they can get him for a very reasonable price and sign him to a 1-2 year deal priced at absolutely no more than $8 million... Sure, maybe it's worth going for. If not, they should 100% walk away IMO.

Here's the thing baby girl, you came into this topic saying "People dont understand the situation" as if you know the entirety of the situation. You want the King to be aggressive without moving assets. The Kings are clearly trying to win now and you're talking about prospect development and for some reason it goes above your head as to why the Kings would likely rather move players who haven't really blossomed for players that are already established.

Vilardi and Clarke are much more NHL ready than Byfield. Kings are trying to win now as its so evidently been shown with the moves Blake has been making of late. He's interested in Tom Wilson and PLD for a reason. That isn't the mindset of a man who's too keen on waiting for the prospects to take control.

And don't come in here acting like I'm being a dick when rather than talk about the topic you defer to tell me you disagree with me about so much that it's not worth it. So if you're going to be a clown then dont be shocked that I treat you like one.

Any guy who thinks Iafallo, Durzi, and a third is too steep of a price for PLD then it's hard to take you seriously.

Pretty good article here if anyone's interested.

Lawson Crouse could be an absolutely perfect alternative to Tom Wilson. 25 years old, 6'4, an imposing physical presence who can hit / fight while also being a 20 goal scorer. Seems like a player built for the playoffs and can also play either RW or LW. Also signed to a pretty reasonable contract for a couple more years. Not sure what the asking price would be but seems like an amazing fit that would address a clear need for the Kings.

Crouse would be great, but he's going to cost a lot. More so than the Mayors AI + Durzi and/or Fagemo. I'd actually pay the higher cost to get him. I'd be willing to trade AK34 since it's clear the Kings don't know (or are not willing) to utilize him correctly. AI + Durzi + AK34 for Crouse...i'd do that deal. If they would rather have Fagemo or Kupari, then even better.

Lowry/Frederic and even Trenin are all good options too.

We can't seem to draft power guys, so might as well trade our young assets for these type of guys now this summer. We're obviously not playing the long game anymore. So just do it rather than this half-way half-in stuff.

Here's the thing... I very clearly never said that. Which means this conversation is completely ridiculous in nature since you're clearly not reading/comprehending what I've been saying.

I simply said I don't think PLD specifically is worth giving up PREMIUM future assets. I'd give up assets for PLD, just not Byfield, Vilardi, Clarke type assets.

For some reason, you've completely misinterpreted nearly everything I've said. Maybe that's on me, I'll take some accountability - Maybe some of my posts weren't clear. But what is clear is that there's a massive disconnect between what I'm saying and what you're hearing. So let's just agree to go our separate ways.

And just for the record, you have been kind of a dick throughout this exchange.

I totally agree. I love Kaliyev but I think in a move for Crouse, I could live with seeing him go.

Wouldn't be surprised if Arty explodes with another team but ultimately it doesn't seem like the Kings (Todd specifically) is going to put him in a position to succeed anyways, so might as well use him to add a guy like Crouse. Although it's certainly a risk, probably worth it.
