So? There are plenty of players who made an impact at his age. It's not an impossibility for young players to contribute.

Is next season, his age 21 season a reasonable time to expect him to even come close to living up to where he was drafted?
I think it is reasonable to expect him to put up some solid numbers next season. I'm expecting at least a 0.5 point per game season (>42 points). Season 1, 0.25 points per game, season 2, 0.4 points per game. Season 3? We'll see, but it'll depend a lot on good health.

Turc had hip surgery before the draft, and was a really small player. He was a bad pick, but people still say it wasn’t because he was rated so high. From day 1 I said it was a blown pick with all those other guys in the board and I’m sticking with that. He was damaged goods and Blake still took him. Unfortunately he’s really lived up to that injury reputation, I wouldn’t count on much if any contribution from him.
I'm really just hoping for some good health and 3rd/4th line center minutes for him in 2024-25. Seems like such a likable rink rat. Still cheering for him, regardless of draft status.

Will these f***ers ever let this kid develop. I dont want to hear how he was a liability.. he needs more time to work things out.. they let golden boy Durzi make a lifetime's worth of gaffes but Arty goes to the gulag for one bad shift.

the treatment of kaliyev by the kings is objective evidence of how flawed their coaching is. this guy has a world class shot, has improved his skating noticeably and plays defense as well as any other forward of his nhl level of experience. if our boy played him full time goals at a 30+ level would be conservative.
i think what the organization ultimately does with this guy should be a good indicator of the organizations competence.

As much as I would hate to see RV traded, it would open up more ice time for Kaliyev. He absolutely needs to be in a top-9 role (preferably top-6). I dread the day that the Kings trade him for a 2nd pairing defensemen, and he explodes into a 30-40 goal threat on another team.

You aren't alone. I was not happy about the pick either. Maybe I'm in the wrong, but I wanted Caufield.

I'm with you. Sticking to my guns - expecting about 45 points from him.

Bruins letting Trent Frederick walk. He's a perfect fit for us
I think they'll qualify him. They'll only walk away from him if they lose a potential arbitration award. I don't think it will ever get that far (arbitration cases almost never do). If he does walk away as a UFA then he'll command more than the Kings are likely able to offer.

If no one will take Connor Garland for free, that puts into perspective how much trade value guys like Iafallo and Moore have.

If even Arvidsson is difficult to move, the Kings are in a tough situation.

Another option is trying to move Grundstrom and Durzi. That would free up 3M.

Dumoulin would be a good signing to pair with Clarke or Spence if they clear more cap. May not be all that expensive either.

45 points from a 2nd overall pick in his 3rd season is… disappointing at the very least.

It’s further compounded when you take into account the other high-end drafted forwards in the same organization who are also suffering from the same lack of development since the draft.

Can’t ever hope to compete if you can’t at least churn out some sort of cost controlled production in-house.

dubois is a malcontent and probably a locker room cancer. he will force his way to montreal and get bored there too. that locker room with schieffle and wheeler and pld in winnipeg must have been a nightmare. pld, a guy with such tremendous physical skills and talent, he's like the prototype for the old adage- "those with the most talent have the least drive and those with the least talent have the most".

Dumoulin completely fell off the map last year as a useful player. I would stay far away from him.
Yea you are probably right. Though Edler had fallen off the map in Vancouver also but played ok enough in his first year in LA. Just dont think Bjornfot- Durzi or Durzi-Clarke would cut it. A veteran to play with Clarke would be nice. Soucy or Graves would be optimal but were probably looking more at a dumpster dive ufa or someone like Dumoulin or Edmunsen with retained salary.

Graves would be a nice add still but salary for sure needs to be moved out. The upgrade from Durzi to Graves would be great.

Yes. But in a vacuum it's pretty great for a 21 year old playing center who's obviously physically immature.

Hopefully he becomes more than Martin Hanzal.

Graves or Soucy would be great as the 3LHD along with Clarke.

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Roy
Graves/Soucy-Clarke
Spence

I love it. But we can't afford it.

I guess they could move Roy and have Graves play with Clarke and Gavrikov with Spence/Durzi?

Oh, really? I thought the book on him in his draft year was his incredible work ethic. Did that change?
