Official:

Adding that paragraph to set expectations of just how much they're hitching their wagon to McLellan.

I want to apologize - I missed it the first time I read it but it's actually not "official" yet. It's expected to be announced next week.

I’m fine with Matthews as long as he’s not super expensive. I believe his playoff short comings are exaggerated because of a lousy built team. He’s got 44 points in 50 playoff games.

Did you watch his play during Toronto playoff for last 3 years?

In my opinion Kings should not be trading for Matthews and his new contract at all.

Well he currently has an $11.6 million cap hit and I don’t see that decreasing…

To actually win on a Matthews trade seems like a complicated task for even the slickest of GMs, because of the contract, and what Toronto is likely still going to try to do, but I wouldn't be averse to trading for him simply because LOL Leafs. Carter had 13g and 21pts in 47 playoff games before getting here, and he only scored in blowouts.

I don’t want to trade for him, I was more meaning for a ufa. And like the poster above said, everything talked about with Matthews were the same things said about Carter. Soft, lazy, one dimensional.

But unless Byfield steps up I’m truly looking forward to Danault and Lizotte as our top 2 centers in 2 years. Maybe Byfield and Kupari will break 20 goals combined by then and Turcotte will play a full season healthy.

Hard pass on Matthews.

Forgive my traditional / toxic masculinity, but I just don't trust a man who cares that much about high fashion.

Also, he's not worth the cap hit.

You have to figure if they move on from Matthews it would be a situation similar to Tkachuk, where he is traded and agrees to a big max-term extension with the trading team. That extra year is a big deal to these guys, it's why players like this rarely get to UFA, Tavares was a unique situation because he was dead-set on signing in one place.

If you're the Kings and you say "we will wait until FA" you run the risk of someone like Anaheim trading and signing him. Waiting also burns another year off of the Kopitar/Doughty window, as the Kings are not going to be SC contenders next season without some big upgrade. The Kings have been aggressive in trying to improve the team the last couple of years to compete in the AK/DD window, and I think they might do the same here. A trade also could allow a team like Chicago to be a third party and withhold 50% of his cap hit for this coming season, giving Blake even more flexibility to improve the team, and his new contract would start as AK's ends.

Finding a Kopitar replacement has been a huge challenge for the Kings, they have invested gobs of draft capital and it just hasn't happened. With AK at 36 years old and the odds of drafting high almost zero it may be time to take the sure thing, if it's available.

I'm still skeptical that Toronto trades him.

I think the most important matter Blake needs to contend with this offseason is the Zack MacEwen contract negotiation.
4 years
4 AAV
Sounds about right. Maybe get some bonus money worked in there to make sure he signs with the King's.

Why would we move Vilardi to center?

Byfield needs to be developed at center.

Iafallo-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson/Kaliyev
Fiala-Byfield-Vilardi
Grundstrom/JAD-Lizotte-Kupari/Kaliyev

Gabe finally has some sustained success on wing. I think it's pretty clearly he's a winger at the NHL level.

PLD is temperamental. Reports are he wants to go to Toronto. And he's more expensive.
The biggest disservice of this line up is putting Fiala with Byfield.

That is probably 2nd on the list after extending the most useless coach we had in Sturm.

Yeah sorry, i don't get this comment. Fiala works great with young guys. He's shown he does not work that great with Kopi. Fiala + Byfield seems like the best match for the Kings lines. You'll have to do more than the usual Bustfield to make me understand what your logic is here.

Dude, look who you are responding to, it's not supposed to be understood lol
