Speculation: LA Kings Offseason Thread

While not as physical, Roy, Gavrikov, Mikey are three good shutdown guys for today's game. King's have 3 young offensive D to pair with them.
Are you saying Gavrikov-Clarke, Bjornfot-Roy, Anderson-Spence/Durzi?
Looks good on paper.

Is it worse than having Edler, Walker, Durzi (second pair) ?

I'm saying Doughty is expendable. Moving him allows for addressing the other issues.

Blake will probably just bring Doughty back so he can run his mouth, pass back & forth with Kopi on the PP & hold up the breakout until all the forwards, including Kopitar have time to reach the offensive blue line & come to a complete stop.

Edit: The game Pietrangelo was suspended for, did the Knights have a top for of Martinez, Hutton, McNabb & Theodore?

Fiala made Lizotte look like a tweener top nine C.

If he can’t make Byfield look good that kid is done for.
Accurate. Fiala plays well with scrubs because he needs the puck and they just need to get open.. they're decoys that just need to find space with a seem for a pass and keep their stick on the ice in ready to shoot body position (something QB apparently has never learned)

No I agree and think that those pairs look good on paper. Id love to see them run that next season.

You're probably right, but it's not going to happen, so I don't really see the point of entertaining it as an idea.

The Kings probably need to move Durzi, Walker, and one of Iafallo/Roy/Arvidsson this summer if they want to re-sign Gavrikov and add a goalie.

But dont you know that makes for nice possession numbers? its great and all if you want to calm the game down after a burst.. but to make that your general style of play you are never creating rush chances - and this is not a slow team. DD should be paired with an offensive D.. i know that is not the mainstream thinking but he is basically a stay at home now.

I suggest we all do the old hope hand test & post results as they come in.

Hoping for some good feedback.

On a more serious note
King's won with Scuderi, Mitchell, Greene providing the defense & 3 young offensive guys. While not as physical, Roy, Gavrikov, Mikey are three good shutdown guys for today's game. King's have 3 young offensive D to pair with them.

All that's left is to bring in a name big enough to do marketing around as Kopi & Doughty age.

Or just re-sign Gavrikov, move Iafallo & walker & run Pheonix, Cal tandem next year.
The average age of the 4 1C that are left in the playoffs is 26. We are not going anywhere with a 36 year old 1C. Just ask the Bruins. Let his contract expire and look for adding pieces next year.

Ship Drew to Toronto for Matthews. What do the Kings have to add? Byfield +?

Toronto addresses the lack of defensive defenseman while getting something for Matthews before he bolts and gets their Matthews "replacement" in Byfield.

Kings keep Clarke and Spence.

LFG???

They would want Byfield + Clarke + 1st. As a starting point.

Drew would have to have 40% of his contract held for any value. Fraid we are stuck with him.

Next year would be fun to see.

Vilardi-Kopitar-Kempe
Fiala—Danault-Kaliyev
Moore-Byfield—Arvidsson

Trade Iafollo, Durzi, and Walker for picks and cap space and resign Gavrikov for 5.5 for 6 years. I liked what we saw from Korpasalo and given a good split and a better spot we do have a shot at the division.

Round out the bottom 3 with speed and some nastiness and size

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Clarke
Roy-Spence

Korpasalo/Copley

I'd switch Arvidsson and Kaliyev.......because Fiala and Arvidsson worked really well after a while...or switch Kaliyev and Vilardi one of the two

No they wouldn't. Toronto isn't trading Matthews for players that aren't immediate difference makers. If they trade him now, they're looking for someone with term and someone who will be able to contribute to cup aspirations.

They're not trading him for Doughty, but if he was three years younger you bet your ass they'd consider it.

If Blake actually trades a roster player, I will be shocked.
That's why I think Gavrikov signs somewhere else. I think he's so slow to move he will let opportunity pass him by rather than move quickly to fix this team. It's not broken, but it's also not going anywhere either. We're stuck in neutral and Free Agency is approaching right after the playoffs end. Rather he make a move to a team trying to hit the cap floor and move some money to make a deal that will get Korpi or Gavrikov resigned.

I don't pretend to understand values around the league which is why this was mostly joking but also why I included Byfield. They still want to try and win now (Doughty) and they add a guy who turns 21 in August who still has a year of ELC cap hit left and was the 2OA three years ago.

Of course, this is under the assumption that they think Matthews is a goner and thinking that Toronto freaks out and overcorrects to their roster issue (flash v. substance).

It could all be BS or posturing (kind of like Doughty to Toronto before he signed his last extension) but there has been so much Matthews to LA smoke that there could be some fire to it.

They did look good together - but they are similar in wanting to carry the puck and like to shoot - that should be spread around I think. But they did some next level things when playing together - similar pace of ideas.
