Speculation: LA Kings Offseason Thread

Any of those players becoming as good as Arvidsson is a stretch at this point.
Well Arvidsson is 30 and a free agent after the season. He will want a lot of money and a term he feels secure with.
The two options are trade him while he has value
or keep him to get bounced again in the first round and lose him for nothing at the end of season anyway.
As we saw this year they arent sniffing a cup even with Arvidsson and Doughty in the playoffs.

Spence and Clarke do not play like Roy.

Does everyone want a team of small puck movers? Good luck with that.

Roy and Edler were the two most physical D. One is leaving as a UFA.

I would roll over in my grave if the Kings ice a D core of Doughty, Anderson, Spence, Durzi, Clarke and Bjornfot. That might be the softest D in the entire NHL.

I’m 5-11”, 175 lbs and I’ve stood next to a few of these players and they look like teenagers compared to me.
Mikey, Doughty
Gavrikov, Clarke
Goldthrope, Spence

Is this ok?

😂

On the CapFriendly boards, a Flyers fan suggested a trade centering around Petersen for Ryan Ellis.

Ellis is unlikely to play another game, so he'll be on LTIR. His 6.5M wouldn't count against LA's cap.

Ellis is owed 24M in real world money. Petersen is owed 11M.

Flyers ownership saves 13M in real world money. Kings get rid of Petersen's cap hit.

From the sound of that article, Philly would like a serviceable roster player also. Cal would also have to waive the NTC.
Great idea! Only issue is Ellis is signed for 4 more years. Ideally they could get a one year LTIR & buyout Cal after next season.

Doesn't matter. He's not expected to play again.

Not sure if AEG would be willing to pay the money or not though.

Petersen has a 4M bonus upcoming this Summer. If Kings pay the bonus first, it could make the potential trade more attractive to Philly.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying we should keep Arvidsson. Just pointing out that we really don’t have a prospect in the system who is realistically projecting at his ceiling. Not yet, anyway.

Is there any team that might give up their first for Durzi and our second?

Would St. Louis? I’m sure entirely sure but they have 3x 1sts.

But Durzi could become the new ‘Cammi and a pick’ at the draft..

I don’t think Durzi has anywhere close to the value of prime Cammalleri. Not even close.

Durzi on his own is worth maybe a 4th right now.

It’s impossible for us to judge his value as fans. He has been putting up .5 points per game with a very cheap contract. He’s also quite young and can quarterback a PP2. Defensively he’s not great but he had to be put in a terrible position for a large portion of the year (LHD) and that would take anyone a while to learn.

Personally I value him as a 2nd round value player. I’ve seen other posters on the main call his value a 1st (if we got that I’d be ecstatic) but also a second.

Mathews to LA already up on trade boards. Let's pile in there.

The center issue, don't like Vilardi being moved back & forth between wing & center. Want him to settle down & get reps.

Was thinking about a PLD for Vilardi trade. PLD is 1 year older. A lot more experience. Gets about 60 points in a good season. Vilardi has less experience at center & has the potential to hit higher point totals. If Vilardi breaks out he's going to require a major pay increase. AAV wise that's not much off from what PLD or another center will cost.

King's don't have the cap this summer to make a move. So move Vilardi to C & run Fiala, Vilardi, Kaliyev for a 3rd line. Kaliyev needs out of the 4th. King's have too many wings. Don't like shifting Vilardi around, but he's at a sink or swim point.

When Kopi's contract is up, there's going to be an opportunity to restructure the team. Vilardi breaking out & requiring a raise after that point might be difficult if another 8AAV forward is brought in.

Why would we move Vilardi to center?

Byfield needs to be developed at center.

Iafallo-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson/Kaliyev
Fiala-Byfield-Vilardi
Grundstrom/JAD-Lizotte-Kupari/Kaliyev

Gabe finally has some sustained success on wing. I think it's pretty clearly he's a winger at the NHL level.

PLD is temperamental. Reports are he wants to go to Toronto. And he's more expensive.

I mean. I don't want Matthews, but there are far worse options to replace Kopitar with IMO. Though, I am kind of over the $10M+ player versus the two $5M guys who are solid team players that fit. Don't want him, but the Kings would have the opportunity when Kopi's contract expires and if the kids all fall flat on their faces which this organization seems keen to ensure.

Byfield needs more time before worrying about center. Play him with Kopi & Byfield can cycle to center as Kopi ages. Byfield isn't ready to shut top centers down in the playoffs. That's going to take a while.

King's have too many forwards now. They need to find another center. If they end up paying another center there isn't cap for another expensive wing. There is going to be one less forward position as well.

Solution, Fiala, Vilardi, Kaliyev. Sorts the wing, center balance. Doesn't require an expensive center to be brought in. Gives Byfield time to develop.

King's don't have the cap to do much for the next season, so try it out.

At the time, Blake was especially complimentary of the connection being formed between the two staffs — adding, “What I like about the situation right now is the relationship between him and Todd; hw much they meet during the week and everything,” said LA’s GM.

Adding that paragraph to set expectations of just how much they're hitching their wagon to McLellan.

If Byfield is playing behind Danault and Kopitar, he's getting softer matchups.

The Kings do need a center, but it makes the most sense to put Byfield in that spot and develop him there.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Gonna be a wonderful decade of first round exits & black hole residency.

Can’t f***in wait.

And if we fire Todd, we get Marco. Sweet. Love that journey for us.

I feel (and hope) if Todd is fired the whole organization would go through a much needed cleanup.

Blake, Luc, Emmerson, Sturm, all of them gone.

Curious to these details of the deal. 2 year extension? 3?

Yuck though. Sturm was responsible for the power play that year and that was a disaster. He sure did mediocre work with commanding a team to play in loss and only Spence appearing as a valid prospect.

full house cleaning must be the next step right?

blake has spent a fair few of papa phil's bucks under the "i swear we're still competitive" guise and we're working with a full deck of luc's guys, i would hope that phil would care enough to say "enough" and take control if they don't get it done in the next few seasons

But they got 104 points guys! Doesn’t matter that 1/3 of the league was actively trying to lose and 104 points only meant finishing 3rd in the division, 104 points is 104 points!

Go be Ducks fans if you don’t like Luc and Rob.

Axl, give back poor Herby his account.

We would hope, but the season ticket holders and revenue generated means more to the organization. 100+ point seasons and first rounds exit might mean more to the balance sheet than 2-4 more years of what we had prior to last year.

I see Kopitar being resigned for 2 years 6 million each. Todd Mac probably gets an extension. If only one prospect takes even a minor step forward we get to hear "See? See?! We let our prospects learn the system. Look at the results with Kempe and Vilardi!".

Supermassive Black Hole.
